Be nice to know what the tourney was, starting stacks, players left, places paid, etc. I doubt he hit that ace though. I think this is probably KQ, QJ, QT, 76 or something along those lines. He may have floated you with A8 but if you saw him call down with middle pair you probably would have noticed. The problem is any bet that you make gets priced if he shoves his remaining 2200 into the pot.I guess I'd bet and call a shove. I would love to know what others think though.

I think I check behind here and try to get to showdown cheaply. Villain is only calling on the turn if you are beat.

check behind, call a smallish bet or bet for value if he checks on the river, fold to a big bet

What would that achieve? Hoping to fold out something like AJ?I think checking the turn and calling a small bet on the river is the best play. A river raise is only going to be called by something that beats you.

to block a river bluff? Its more common for a bluff to come on the turn, while a made Ace against such a dry board checks both streets to induce a bet because the made Ace knows hes probably is not getting called by anything he beats. If the hand were QQ and a K turned then I think a value bet on the river is ok because a K doesnt want to risk a free A on the river and As are played so much more loosely than Ks PF.
