OrzyVibe 0 Posted April 5, 2007 Share Posted April 5, 2007 World Poker Tour Jumping to GSN Next SeasonTravel Channel Opted not to Pick up Two More SeasonsThe World Poker Tour is leaving the Travel Channel and joining High Stakes Poker on GSN.No announcement has been made by either company, but the information was released through a SEC report filed by World Poker Tour Enterprises (WPTE). According to the filing, GSN entered an agreement with WPTE April 2, to air 23 episodes of season six, which is about to wrap-up filming at the end of the month.GSN agreed to pay $300,000 an episode and has the option of picking up the WPT for two more seasons if it chooses. GSN has committed $3 million to marketing this season of the WPT. This is the same option that the Travel Channel declined to pick up Sunday.The fifth season of the WPT premiered last night on the Travel Channel. When asked about the status between the Travel Channel and its contract on Tuesday, April 3, during an interview about the WPT’s fifth season premiering, Steve Lipscomb, founder, president and CEO of WPTE, said he couldn’t comment on the subject. A message left to a WPTE representative this morning has not yet been returned.The last show scheduled to air on the Travel Channel is the WPT Championship event that takes place later this month. It's hard to pay that much for a show without the online advertisers footing the bill.I think the WPT should have cut the fee and had a major network broadcast the season.
