Coming in Jan, this is the first tailer. Looks like a lot of gratuitous sex and violence.Article on the show

The producers say they see an opportunity for an intensely graphic action-drama series in the TV universe. The first draft of the script, they say, was basically “NC-17” in terms of sex and violence and is being toned down -- slightly. “Much like ‘300,’ there will be a visual beauty to the way it is shot,” says showrunner DeKnight. “There’s an ode to violence ... there are decapitations, people being split in half ... we don’t want to shy away form violence or sexuality. The beauty of being on premium cable is there is no story we can’t tell.”

I've only seen a couple but was very surprised by the "****s". Didn't think they had that word.Only back then could a man just bang a slave woman right in front of his wife and she asks how it was.Show's great.

Just watched the most recent episode...I guess I figured all along that

the friend would die at some point

, but I was hoping to be wrong, and man, that was a pretty rough way of doing it. The writers of the show sure aren't shy about doing fucked up shit.

The finale was FUCKING AWESOME. It convinced me to tell everyone I know to watch the series. I hope the star, whatever his name is, recovers quickly so they don't have to do a prequel thing and instead can pick up where they left off.

Definitely agree. Does anyone know how "bad" his cancer is? I mean it really sucks and he hope he gets better. When I first started to watch the show and saw the effects I lol'd, but once you get over that the show is actually pretty good. I think the last 3 episodes have been awesome. And you couldn't possibly ask for more from the Finale.

I thought that after the first few episodes they did a much, much better job of toning down the graphic novel type blood effects/style and made it more realistic, which went a long way towards improving the series as a whole.

Listen, the writing never gets that good, and it's never that realistic. What it is, is delightful violence porn ( and real porn thrown in). I heard about this show on the history of rome podcast, and the guy described it as taking all the violence, sex and decadence of ancient rome, and turning it up to 11, and it's 100 percent right. It's not what I'd call great art, but it's exactly what I want in my guilty pleasures. there's never been a show like this, I'll say that.

Jesus christ, this. I can honestly say I've never seen anything like it on television before, and seldom in movies.

True, but at least both improve enough to make the violence (and real) porn that much more enjoyable.

When Doctore threw the sword and hit the dick soldier, even though I knew there was no way he was throwing it at Crixus, I gave an audible cheer, then felt stupid, then immediately said "fuck it" and got real excited again. I'm so fucking glad that Doctore went to the right side of things (you never know with this show) and will make it through to the next season, whenever that may be. I like his character a lot...it's rare to have someone that's really a "bad guy" based on which side he's on and his general actions, but still the audience is meant to like him as a person and appreciate why he does what he does.

This is exactly the type of thread where spoilers should be used, and so far nothing has been spoiled, good work ETMM forum.I also thought the beginning of the season, especially episode 1 wasn't very good but it got much better and has been a fun ride. I'm at episode 11 of 13 now (

right after Spartacus had to kill his friend Vorros, what a shocker

) and I'm excited to hear that the finale delivers. I didn't know the Spartacus actor has the big C, that blows. One thing that irks me about the dialogue, is that they try and use ancient prose and terms, yet they use fcuk all over the place, it never sounds right when i hear it.

The etymology of the word is pretty much impossible to trace and therefore is a matter of (relatively unimportant) debate.
Via Latin or Greek-Other possible connections are to Latin fūtuere (almost exactly the same meaning as the English verb "to ****"); but it would have to be explained how the word reached Scandinavia from Roman contact, and how the t became k.[citation needed] From fūtuere came French foutre, Catalan fotre, Italian fottere, Romanian futere, vulgar peninsular Spanish follar and joder, and Portuguese foder. However, there is considerable doubt and no clear lineage for these derivations. These roots, even if cognates, are not the original Indo-European word for to copulate, but Wayland Young (who agrees that these words are related) argues that they derive from the Indo-European *bhu– or *bhug– ("be", "become"), or as causative "create" [see Young, 1964]. A possible intermediate might be a Latin 4th-declension verbal noun *fūtus, with possible meanings including "act of (pro)creating".-A derivation from Latin facere = "to do", "to make" has been suggested.[citation needed]-Greek phyō (φυω) has various meanings, including (of a man) "to beget", or (of a woman), "to give birth to".[7] Its perfect tense pephyka (πεφυκα) can be likened to "****" and its equivalents in other Germanic languages
So, while the exact word itself wouldn't have been in Ancient Rome, some variation of it possibly would have been, so it's not completely out of order to have them use it...after all, they do have them speaking english, just in that era's style. They use very few, if any (I'm not sure), words and terms that aren't directly out of our vernacular.

kinda confused as to why they used english accents for all the characters. they made the same call in Rome, the HBO series. was unable to find anything of note re: cancer treatment, other than the fact that his is treatable. I'm not a fan of gore but I loved this series nonetheless.

I always assumed it was because Rome ( and Spartacus too) was made by a British production company and they filmed in Brittan so they obv used British actors. I don't think it's like Americans putting on english accents, just regular actors using their regular accents ( or perhaps stylized to sound higher or lower class depending on the character they are playing. )

http://www.deadline.com/2010/06/spartacus-...e-starz-series/Finally, something goes right for Jeff.
BOOM!I would say that this is pretty easily my favorite show right now. It's so terrible, cheap, violent and disturbingly erotic. Ilythia is the hottest character ever put on TV. I would watch an all-Ilythia spin-off, that was just her lusting after and humiliating gladiators, and having raunchy sex. I literally got wood when they cut that horse-cock off, and that's not in the top 5 hottest Ilythia scenes.
