Nut Flush for Negreanu

Posted 2 minutes ago by donpeters • Level 1

Daniel Negreanu has had a bit of success this year, making two final tables at the inaugural World Series of Poker Asia-Pacific, including winning the Main Event there for A$1,038,825.

On this hand, he battled with fellow Team PokerStars Pro Luca Pagano and made a flush on the river to scoop a very nice pot early.

On the {Q-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{7-Clubs} flop, Pagano fired 400 before Negreanu raised to 1,200. The Italian made the call, then the dealer placed the {4-Diamonds} out on the turn. Here, both players checked.

The river completed the board with the {8-Clubs}, completing the flush draw present on the flop, but also pairing the board. Pagano tossed out a bet of 1,800, then Negreanu fired in a raise to 5,000. Pagano took a minute or two, then made the call.

Negreanu tabled the {A-Clubs}{9-Clubs} for the nut flush, and Pagano mucked his hand

Torelli's Aces Beat Negreanu's Queens

Posted 27 minutes ago by donpeters • Level 2

The action was picked up on the turn with the board reading {10-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{2-Spades} just as Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu check-called a bet from Alec Torelli. The river completed the board with the {2-Hearts}, and Negreanu checked again. Torelli fired 10,000, and Negreanu went into the tank.

In famous Negreanu fashion, he was chatting out loud during the entire time he tanked. Eventually, he made the call.

Torelli turned over the {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds}, and Negreanu flashed the {Q-}{Q-}. "I told you I could beat jacks," said the recent World Series of Poker Asia-Pacific Main Event champion.

With that pot, Negreanu dropped to about 22,000 in chips, while Torelli moved to 45,000 or so.

"What The Hell Do You Have?"

Posted 11 minutes ago by SantanaBandana • Level 8: 300-600, 75 ante

There was a crowd gathering at one of the tables in the center of the room, and when we arrived, we spotted Daniel Negreanu with a bet of 20,000 in front of him. His opponent, Brazilian Gabriel Otranto, had apparently been in the tank for a while before we arrived.

"Something big, right?" the Team PokerStars Pro asked him. "Queen-jack of hearts?"

"Let's make a proposition," the player responded. "You can guess either the hand rank or suits."

"What the hell do you have?" Negreanu shot back. "You can only have a big pair or a big draw if you're tanking this long."

"I think we have the same hand," Otranto said, then finally folded. "Show one."

Negreanu obliged, flashing the {k-Clubs}.

"We have the same hand," Otranto said. "King-ten."

"King-ten?" Negreanu echoed. "I had king-deuce."

Victor Sbrissa Crushes Day 1b

Posted 1 hour 4 minutes ago by Happy_Freaked • Level 8: 300-600, 75 ante

The second starting flight of the PokerStars and Monte-Carlo® Casino European Poker Tour Grand Final was exciting, action-packed and drew a crowd of 423 hopefuls who all put up €10,600 to be a part of this spectacular event. After eight 75-minute levels it was LAPT Sao Paulo winner Victor Sbrissa who bagged up 224,800 and with that he's by far the overal tournament chip leader heading into Day 2 tomorrow. Big name pros Calvin Anderson (198,100), Andrew Lichtenberger (137,800) and Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu (88,600) all survived Day 1b with big stacks.

After a disappointing Day 1a turnout Day 1b quickly showed that things were going to be a whole lot different. The hallways were packed, players were waiting in line to get a seat and the list of famous pros seemed endless. The list was shortened quite quickly as WSOP $10,000 PLO winner Jan-Peter Jachtmann, EPT Kiev winner and Team PokerStars Pro Max Lykov and former EPT Berlin winner Kevin MacPhee were all eliminated during the second level of play.

A table of death was established early on, as a murderers row of top pros lined up among which Sam Trickett and Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Selbst were the most recognizable. From this table Calvin Anderson had the best showing and he racked up 198,100 at the end of the day. Selbst, JP Kelly, Trickett and Russell Carson all busted.

Team PokerStars Pros Eugene Katchalov and Lex Veldhuis were also among the unlucky early eliminations just like Michael Mizrachi.

While some already dusted off all their chips others just sat down. Phil Ivey entered late as did Viktor Blom and Gus Hansen. Blom never got a hold of a big stack to play around with and he was eliminated towards the end of the day. Ivey had big swings throughout the day but he also did not manage to make it through. Both players are expected to play more events later this week as the €25,000 and €100,000 High Roller are still up for grabs. Someone who will also be playing the bigger buy ins is Patrik Antonius. The Finnish poker superstar will have plenty of time to rest up as he was also eliminated on Day 1. Antonius was very unlucky as he ended up all in with two pair and a flushdraw on the turn against top pair top kicker. According to the PokerNews Odds Calculator, Antonius was a 95.45% favorite to double up, but the ace of hearts on the river gave his opponent a better two pair.

Shaun Deeb made his way over to the cash game area before the dinner break as he was eliminated by former EPT London winner Aaron Gustavson. There are a ton of cash games going on during the EPT Grand Final and many pros have been spotted at the tables already. Noah Schwartz was not ready to play cash games just yet as he managed to get a hold of a ton of chips early on. Schwartz won a big coin flip and played his way up to 204,600.

There was no cruising today for Team PokerStars Pros Bertrand Grospellier, Chris Moneymaker and Nacho Barbero. All three were knocked out and the former was even sent packing by teammate Marcin Horecki. Annette Obrestad also had quite the day as old times were revived. Obrestad finished 13th in the Grand Final back in Season 5 and since then she has only managed to cash in two more EPT events, both in London. Obrestad found aces against kings, hit quads against Scott Seiver and closed out the day with 56,800. Seiver did not survive the day.

Defending champion Mohsin Charania stared out slow and Kristy Arnett caught up with him on one of the breaks after which he managed to double up. Charania keeps back-to-back hopes alive as he closed out the day with 51,000 chips.

Besides all the tragic bust-out news there were also a ton of good players who managed to make it through the day. Last year's Grand Final's €25,000 High Roller winner Igor Kurganov, (127,900), former Grand Final winner Nicolas Chouity (57,600), and a lot of Team PokerStars Pros among which Luca Pagano (18,100), Marcin Horecki (134,100), Toni Judet (71,000), Jason Mercier (48,200), Chad Brown (67,000), Vicky Coren (45,100), Alex Kravchenko (81,500), Marcel Luske (35,500) and Victor Ramdin (134,400).

New Table and More Chips for Daniel Negreanu

Posted 2 hours 8 minutes ago by Happy_Freaked • Level 13: 1,000-2,000, 300 ante

Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu's table was just broken up and he was moved to Tobias Reinkemeier's table. On the very first hand Anaras Alekberovas raised to 3,500 and Negreanu three-bet to 12,000. Negreanu was seated to Alekberovas' left and the action was folded all the way around to the Lithuanian. Alekberovas four-bet to 26,000 and that put the pressure back on Negreanu.

"He's a four-bettor," Negreanu laughed as he was constantly joking around with the players at his table. The Canadian pro put in a five-bet to 54,000 and Alekberovas folded.

"Aces, of course I had aces," Negreanu said as he pushed his cards towards Reinkemeier who could pick one.

Reinkemeier pointed towards the left card and Negreanu turned over the {A-Spades}. Just to keep everyone honest he also showed the {A-Clubs} and emphasized that he would only five-bet with aces. Negreanu is doing good on Day 2 and he seems to be completely in his element.

The Negreanu Train Keeps Rolling

Posted 32 minutes ago by Happy_Freaked • Level 14: 1,200-2,400, 300 ante

Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu started with 88,600 and so far his day has been amazing as he's up to 353,000 chips! It was the top German pro Tobias Reinkemeier who raised to 5,000 preflop after which Negreanu three-bet from the small blind to 17,700.

Reinkemeier and Negreanu talked a bit while the German was making his decision but eventually he decided to move all in. Reinkemeier had 84,000 chips left and Negreanu snap-called.

Daniel Negreanu: {A-Spades}{K-Spades}

Tobias Reinkemeier: {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}

The board ran out {K-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{9-Spades}{8-Hearts} and Reinkemeier was knocked out. The year has been great so far for Negreanu as he managed to win the WSOP APAC Main Event for A$1,038,825 and it only seems to be getting better!

Something Goofy

Posted 14 minutes ago by Happy_Freaked • Level 17: 2,500-5,000, 500 ante

Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu talks as much as he raises but just now he decided to give one up. We caught the action on the flop when Negreanu bet 16,500 after Matthew Ashton had checked. Negreanu was chatting to Ashton the entire time while the Brit tried to maintain his straight face.

Ashton ultimately called after which the turn brought the {5-Hearts}. Ashon checked again and Negreanu said, "Let's try something goofy now," as he threw out 29,500. Ashton tanked again after which he made the call.

The river brought the {9-Clubs} and Ashton checked once more.

"White flag! I wave the white flag," Negreanu said right before he checked behind and turned over {K-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}, "I missed," he added.

Ashton showed {Q-Spades}{7-Clubs} and took down this pot while Negreanu still remains far above the average stack.

Negreanu Afraid of Lodden

Posted

"Queen? I was afraid of that." Said Daniel Negreanu to fellow Team PokerStars Pro Johnny Lodden after he paid him off in the river.

Lodden started the hand with an under-the-gun raise and Negreanu was the only caller from the next seat.

The flop fell {q-Spades}{2-Spades}{6-Hearts} and Lodden continued for 15,000. Call. Both checked the {q-Diamonds} turn before Lodden led for 38,000 on the {a-Diamonds} river.

Negreanu called to see Lodden's {k-Spades}{q-Clubs}. The Canadian flashed an ace and mucked.

Deeb Folds Top Pair To Negreanu

Posted 4 minutes ago by donpeters • Level 19: 4,000-8,000, 1,000 ante

Daniel Negreanu raised from under the gun to 18,000, and Freddy Deeb made the call out of the hijack seat to see a flop of {A-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{5-Spades}. Negreanu fired 26,000, and Deeb called.

The turn was the {6-Clubs}, and Negreanu stayed on the gas with a bet of 67,000. Deeb called once again.

The river was the {3-Clubs}, and Negreanu fired 105,000. Deeb took some time, but eventually folded the {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades}. Negreanu showed the {6-Hearts}{5-Hearts} for two pair, meaning Deeb was right in laying down a big top pair.

Negreanu Takes One Off O'Dwyer

Posted

Daniel Negreanu raised to 18,000 and Steve O'Dwyer called from the button. The flop showed {8-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{Q-Clubs} and O'Dwyer called a bet from the Canadian Team PokerStars Pro.

On the turn the {3-Hearts} hit and Negreanu bet 60,000, O'Dwyer called. The river brought the {4-Diamonds} and this time Negreanu bet 132,000. O'Dwyer tanked for a while but eventually he made the call only to see that Negreanu had {A-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}.
