If you are paying $20 for a haircut, I imagine people assume you did it yourself anyway.

and after 3 days, he is risen!

Pocket change cost me my first and only black girlfriend.   It was in the middle of a roaring poker boom and I was flush in ways most men don't even bother dreaming of. Money, it was like dirt to me

Got a little nuts with the eBay 20% off coupon today. Bought a bunch of smart home shit for a house I don’t even own. I would have ultimately bought it eventually. It’s just a matter of how long it will end up staying in a tote in my closet.

Well, hopefully it doesn't fall through then, because that stuff will be outdated in about 12 months.

Are you getting any updates on that? Is your realtor keeping in touch with the owners about their house hunt?

I asked my realtor for an update. She said the other realtor is apparently mailing letters and knocking on doors asking if people are interested in selling their house. I hate everything.

That doesn't sound promising. Might be time to open up the search again.

Well, my hands are still tied until July 1 unless I want to give them $3k and any houses I’d look at list during the week and are under contract by that Sunday, so there’s no point in seriously looking.

I have started looking at apartments and after I’m finally willing and able to spend a little more for a slightly nice apartment I’m finding almost all of them won’t allow my dog so I’m back at looking at a few older apartments. Which, fine, more money saved but it would be nice to not live in squalor for once.

Napa put some positive energy out into the world and you’ll see it returned ten fold. There’s nothing like the power of positivity. I believe you and Mack will be in your new home soon enough.

To be fair, I get the sense that a lot of realtors are spamming to see if people want to sell. I get one or two every few weeks, my development is absurd right now. It’s not even that nice of a condo.

The place my girlfriend had an offer on was completely covered in mold apparently. Makes sense in retrospect, it seemed like too good to be true.

My realtor assures me it’s a normal thing for realtors to do that and I’ve heard stories from friends of people offering to buy their home because their neighbors said they were thinking of selling so, I totally believe it. I just wish they didn’t have to and it just seems like it’d have a fairly low success rate, but with such a high volume you’re bound to hear about success stories.

Pretty sure my firm is delaying my merit increase until January. That would be 18 months between increases, and I’ve not heard of anyone else exceeding 12. It’s related to me changing roles, basically an oversight that needs to be escalated.

I’ve talked about this before, but I’m basically the last person my firm wants to play chicken with. I’m going to bring it up in my 1:1 diplomatically and see where it goes. Belt tightening needs to come from the non-value added people, certainly not me.

Realtors just want more transaction volume, and it’s an easy sell when it looks like free money to the seller. It’s all a stupid game. Where am I going if I sell? Clearly, a more expensive home, which is at least partially as inflated in price as mine due to the rising tide. It’s a wash, minus the realtor vig.

People just have blinders on about real estate, like it’s different from any other asset class.

So you think your escalation brings the raise now?

So you think your escalation brings the raise now?

The way it was phrased to the firm, nobody would miss their normal cycle. I’m pretty confident I can be included if I just quote what HR said. Bigger picture, I am worried about missing out on options due to not being moved up to the tier I was expecting.

We hired like four young JDs over the last two years... they didn’t have to do any licensing exams, and opted out of 95% of the prerequisite education stuff for the CFP. There is definitely demand in the RIA space for what you do, and I don’t even know that you’d have to take a pay cut. At least for the other RIAs I’ve dealt with, the culture is usually pretty good, probably because everyone remembers what it was like to deal with shit from companies like LPL.

Thanks. Who knows what’s going to happen. I wish I could just do a career management blog. A space to rant where it isn’t cluttering up this thread. I know I go into way too much detail about this shit, but it’s such an ambiguous and frustrating situation.

That is 80% of this thread, so, don’t do that. I like reading this shit.

I feel like I waste too much time at work on here or twitter or wherever but then I shadow a coworker for a bit on a process and they tell me about something that takes them hours and I take 3 minutes to look at it and come up with a solution that’s easily repeatable and does the same thing in a fraction of the time and then I don’t feel so bad.

For example, yesterday, coworker had some file with dates in it and for whatever reason they were being stored as text and weren’t sortable so he was going through and manually fixing them. Talking thousands of rows. After like a hundred he had the brilliant idea to ask me and I tried two or three things before looking at it and seeing it could easily be separated with text to columns, and then put back together in mm/dd/yy format and it took all of 6 minutes from start to finish.
