Why Playing In Los Angeles Is Better Than Where You Play

Recommended Posts

Friday, December 21 @ Hustler casino had already been a good day for me. I was up around $1500 in just over 4 hours playing 5-5 NL (300-500 buyin). Around 10:30 two tall white surfer looking dudes walk in and though I thought they looked familiar, I just couldnt place their faces with who they were (and lets face it, Los Angeles is filled with people who either a) are famous or B) try to look like someone famous). They both got to sit down at the table to my right and I was in seat 9 so I could keep looking over there to watch what was going on. The two of them were both extremely loud and their eyes were totally glazed over (definitely stoned). A friend was playing there and around midnight he walks over and says to me, "can you believe how much fun I am having at my table?" And I say, "who are they? They look familiar." He says, " i dont follow baseball, but its the Weaver brothers." DOH. Im a huge baseball fan and was pretty pissed at myself for not recognizing them, but I immediately asked for a table change so I could get some of the action they were giving out. Finally, I get my table change and noticed everyone at the table had about $1500-2000 in front of them including two total donks so I knew the guys were just giving away money. My first hand (in the big blind), I get 8h3h and Jared (plays for the angels in case you dont know - also holds the KO record for NCAA - played for cal state long beach) raises in 2nd position to $25 - everyone calls, so of course I call. Flop comes 832 rainbow and I lead out for $75. Jared goes all in for $500 and Jeff (his brother - won a world series with the yankees but is currently unsigned) calls and so do i. I win the hand when Jared shows 77 and jeff shows AK. Jared begins to berate me for calling with 83, but doing it in a joking fashion. Good times..But the biggest and funniest thing happened with Jeff. he went broke (NUMEROUS TIMES) and one time the dealer dealt him in the next hand even though he didnt have any money on the table. The dealer realizes the mistake and asks him how much he will play with and he responds "$200." He looks in his wallet and doesnt have it and the guy next to him says, "heres two hundred, just go get it after the hand." Jeff thanks him (slurring and barely audible) and of course goes all in and loses the hand. He gets up, goes to the ATM (i dont know about you but the rest of us can only get maybe $1000 - maybe $2000 from the ATM, but I guess millionaire baseball players have unlimited supply from the ATM because he must have pulled out around 6-7k for the night. He returns and buys back in for $500 and the guy next to him says, "hey man, i need my $200 back." You can probably guess where this is going. Jeff looks at him and says, "its $200 man, get over it.. you'll get it - dont worry about it." So the guy says, "im sure i will, but its against the rules to take money off the table, so i need it back." Jeff responds, "dude get out of my face, dont sweat it. Its $200 man. I cant believe you are getting in my grill FOR $200 DOLLARS! how pathetic are you? its $200 MAN!!" Thats when the table started saying stuff like, "well, to the rest of us who make in a year what you make each week, $200 is a lot. Can you just return it?" And then the brothers started really laughing and getting in everyones face about how pathetic we are to be on this guys side and that its really sad that we need to beg for $200. It was really sad that they were becoming jerks at this point until Jared throw $400 at one guy and said, "here will you shut up now." Jeff paid back the other guy and the game continued with them losing even more. It was fun, but I learned a little bit more about the lives of these guys and found that I might respect their game, but not who they are.

Nice little story.Moral is: Don't loan the rich guy money. Instead, just take his money at the table. Especially if he's a millionaire baseball player, in which case it's like the ATM anyway. Pin Number is 98765 (all spades).

This one time, here in Thunder Bay, some DJ from Europe with big tits came into the casino and was playing 3/6 LHE (it's the only thing we spread :club:), and was just spewing wildly. I paid this guy $15 (LOL) for the seat on her left, and proceeded to make like $200 from here alone, which was a good amount for me, at the time. I remember one hand, I made quads and got a few raises in against her KJo unimproved, lol.

Alot of successful people ( at least from what ive seen ) seem to be bitter about everything in life.. not sure why this is.. any psychologists here?
<-------To be honest, you probably have a skewed sample. The overwhelming majority of research has shown that when you compare individuals within a society, the wealthier people are, the happier they are.

Dude you just said the Weaver boters were stoned when they came into the casino. Can't they get in major trouble for that??

Yea, like baseball cares about drugs. They've proved that once.

Different kind of happiness. Different set of problems. I would say the happiest I ever was was during a time in my life when I was living pay check to pay check. But speaking of really cool poker games;I was sitting down at a small $3/$6 limit game when Erin Moran's hair stylist sat down. Man the stories he threw around about her and Scott Baio, the good times, the bad...wow I'm just happy to be alive sometimes.Oh and I stacked him for his last $18 with a pair of kings in the hole against his ace rag. :club: Course he got it back when I ended up bidding $47 plus shipping for a lock of Danny Bonaduce red hair on Ebay.

my home casino is harrah's in new orleans..i play 2-5 nl with many of the new orleans hornets..chris paul, j. pargo, and mo pete were on my table the other day..they were all average poker players at best(really pre-flop oriented)..very nice guys though..-i called a 25 raise from pargo with 45 spades just the other day..he led out 75 into a K44 flop..i min-rasied and he pushed..my 45 held vs. his AK..he wasn't very happy..-one other story..my buddy and i were playing the 5-10nl game one night, and i noticed paul azinger(pro golfer) watching from the rail..i said hello to him, and asked if he was going to play..he said he was next on the list..my buddy had been playing for quite a while, so he offered azinger his seat..azinger sat down, and proceeded to get his entire 2000 buy-in in on the first hand..it ended up being a bad beat jackpot hand =, so the whole table got paid, and paul azinger(who was sitting in my friends seat) won the large portion of the jackpot....my friend was pretty pissed..azinger was anice guy, though..and tossed my friend 2 $500 chips from his pocket... :club:

My buddy works at ESPN Zone in CHicago and Pargo and his brother were in there up by all the games. My buddy and his coworker play the shooting game non-stop all day and hustled Pargo and his brother for like a hundy.

If this isn't sw, I'd like to know why.
Wouldn't a ton of people say college, or the time right after it, was the most enjoyable time of their life? And most do not have a ton of net worth at that time. I would now and will probably feel the same way 10 years from now.Rip Hamilton was in Caesars when I was in Vegas last summer, sitting at a different table. /story

Materialism is a drug too. I also find myself very absorbed with US tax policies, interest rates, and other things that rob your soul of joy. When you own the business, you never really clock out.But I can't go back, life has changed for me. Not saying it's all bad, just all different.

But you have way more money now, so shouldn't that make you more happy? You can buy whatever and not worry about it. You could even sell everything and retire. I wish I could be that free.
