tekn0wledg 0
Well, I used to be a health nut years ago before picking up the poker bug.... infact the poker bug actually killed my health kick. These days while playing poker as soon as I get home from work until it's time to goto bed, I don't follow the best eating patterns. I have vowed to go back to my chicken and fish routine with lotsa burritos and rice etc. But in the past three months or so my poker diet consisted of:1) Pizza from Papa Johns2) McDonalds - two double cheeseburgers ketchup only and an order of chocolate chip cookies3) English muffins with peanut butter4) Burritos from Moe's Southwest Grill [biggest damn burritos I have ever seen]So now I'm switching back to a more healthy meal plan again, mostly I've just been lazy while playing poker. When faced with 'cook or player poker' obviously poker wins So I'm curious to see what everyone else's eating habits are when they are playing poker?
Jonnydanger 0
I'm a big health nut, ie going to the gym everyday, and what I do is cook my weeks meals on Sunday afternoon. Throw some steak tips and chicken on the Foreman grill, steam some veggies and white rice then you can throw it all together with different sauces and have a ton of different meals. Also for people in a rush Meal Replacement Bars and Drinks work well. They are high in calories (~600) but they will fill you up like nobodys business. I can't sit down and play for more than 3 hours a night after work and after the gym if I haven't had a days worth of good food in me.
tekn0wledg 0
Yah I actually drink alot of MesoTech shakes.... My laziness was the main source for me ordering pizza and hitting McDonalds. Thankfully due to my previous fitness levels I only gained about 3lbs during six months of eating like this.... Could be alot worse hehe.
314HxC 0
I don't have many "eating habits" related to poker. I don't really eat while I play. I just down copious amounts of mountain dew. Plus, i'm a vegetarian so I have to go out of my way to eat unhalthy food.
ChaoPlayaz 0
I've never really had good eating habits... almost every day for lunch is mcdonalds or pizza, dinner is usually something good for me (18 and still live with my parents so my mom fixes good stuff... next year I'll be in college though and probably be like my brother and have a huge stack of totinos pizzas in the corner and eat one everynight for dinner)I'm 6'1" and only 155 lbs though even with my terrible eating... I'm really big into sports, like club soccer and stuff, so it keeps me pretty fit and skinny lol
Stinglikeabee 0
Um, some Bud Lights, Gatorade or maybe some Guayaki Yerba Mate tea.....Either way, just something to drink and concentrate and then I'd maybe get something to eat a couple of hours into the session. JaysonWeber 0
I stay in good physical condition, I think it affects my game to be honest. This varies from person to person though so it won't affect everyone. I have to stay in good physical shape, but the poker bug certainly makes it a bit harder to make it to the gym 5 days a week, I will not lie about that, I find that I'm a lot more energized after hitting the gym though so sometimes I will try to workout here at college before the nightly tournaments. RPGs316 0
If I know that I'm going to play poker, I hit the gym roughly three hours before hand to make sure that the blood is pumping and I'm rearin' to go.But alas, when I sit down at the table, if it's a homegame, I'll try and make something somewhat healthy [spaghetti, salad, bread, yadda yadda yadda], but If I'm at the casino for awhile, it's the Asian Temptation. It's composed of three tiers of food, BBQ pork, some form of meat on a bone and onions, and potstickers and egg rolls. DELICIOUS.
tekn0wledg 0
Yeh I think when I'm in Vegas in January I'll need to take a good consideration to my eating habits. Last time I was in town in September I had a 10 hour session without food, so it through me off a bit. This time I'll be buffeting it before and after since I know I'll be doing some more long sessions. possibly longer if conditions are right.
grdred944 0
I was watching the $2000 NL tourney at Bellagio the other day and noticed heart patient T.J. Cloutier woofing down this huge burger (OK, maybe it was a veggie but I doubt it). It made me wonder how many of these pros on the circuit really take care of themselves and their diet. Or are their arteries just waiting to go "all-in" Since the average tonage at a poker table sometimes rivals the Exxon Valdez I would think most of them probably don't watch their diet much.My pre-game ritual is a smoothie with fresh fruit, soy milk, yogurt, and honey. My problem is when I get hungry in the middle of a session I usually eat the worst offerings on the casino menu. I'm trying to start eating more salads and shy away from the cheeseburgers. tekn0wledg 0
Lol on the Cloutier remark.... that does make me wonder too lol. Lederer seems to be getting a bit bigger as well, he must not exercise or at least doesn't mind what he eats.I definitely don't drink the night before a tournament or when I know I'll be playing cash games either.... just that 'dead' feeling that sux. ForumMod 0
Lederer is a vegetarian He cares what he eats. He has lost quite a bit of weight over the years, his weight does fluctuate.
tekn0wledg 0
I didn't know he was a vegetarian. That doesn't mean he doesn't eat a high fat no exercise diet tho.... he could still be eating bad despite being a vegetarian. One of my programmers is a vegetarian but eats so much chocolate and french fries that he looks more like a contestant on the biggest loser than a practicing health nut....

One of the WSOP "The Nuts" features has Lederer speak about being a vegetarian yet accepting a prop bet to eat a burger (which he did).
tilted 0
On of the local bars in my area has a free hold'em tourney every wed. My buddies head up there after work just for grins. I eat the same thing every Wed. before we play--Grilled Cheese and chips with two beers. kinda lame huh?

Just a thought... I think Howard is a vegetarian mainly because he wants to eat a bit more healthy.. which would not include... massive amount of chocolate and fries... lol but who knows
tekn0wledg 0
That is interesting though, I wonder what's more commong, being a vegetarian because you don't believe in the mistreatment of animals, or if you are trying to be healthier?I love animals, I hate seeing them mistreated, but I eat more chicken and seafood than Colonel Sanders and Forrest Gump.... I try not to think about the process of how the food ends up on my plate, instead I am grateful that I have the food and I respect the animal that gave it's life for me to eat. I think for me that's a way of respecting what is going on instead of just eating the food because it's there.
shutoutagain 0
I also love animals.Especially, with a little barbeque or cocktail sauce!
