ss2 plo8 and plo... plus gripes

Recommended Posts

I'm reading supers sytems 2 and i'm trying to understand why they would put pl8 before plo. Is it because pot limit is more complex, or cause Bobby Baldwin is more highly regarded than Lyle Berman? I'm just trying to firgure out why i should read plo8 1st.Also, does anyone notice this book sucks? I mean i'm just whelmed by it, not over-whelmed. I feel it is about as informative as some Jehovahs witness pamphlet i once read on how to beat roulette (seriously). It has some valid points but i can't say i've learned anything truly new after reading limit holdem, stud 8, and the triple draw section, not to mention the other half of the book that is bascially Caro's recycled material and Doyle's "I used to be an athlete, and old-school poker was tough" back story was bascially exactly the same as SS1. Finally, is it possible to not see doyle's "online" chapter as anythin but a shameless plug for doyle's room?Feel free to comment on any of thesePS. Not to brown nose.... DN has the best chapter so far.

Yes the online section is a shameless plug. I think he's earned the right to plug whatever he wants. PLus the room is full of fish so you should be going there ot give it a shot anyway. Caro's stuff is mostly recycled. Yes. The limit holdem section is amazing. How you could not see it as something new is beyond me. Are some of the ideas going to work for your crappy 1/2 2/4 online games. NO But to say you learned nothing from it shows me nothing more then the fact that you have absolutely no reading comprehension. I don't play stud 8 or triple draw often enough to have a valid opinion. I have skimmed through both chapters a couple times but never actually read them so i have no comment on that. Lastly both Omaha sections were great I don't think it really matters what order you read them in. Your just being a NIT. Read the entire book backwards (Chapter wise) and I don't think it will take away from any one point in the book.

Yeah, that's what i thought, thanks. I just didn't want to miss something before i do the plo, these are the two chapters that seem like they go together though.About the limit, its Basically the same thing as sklansky, SS1 and even Hellmuths book wasn't too far off from the points Jen makes either. Yeah, its well written, and even entertaining, but how is it different from anything else written? have you read other limit stuff? If, so what? I'm just curious...

I have never read Hellmuth. Never will :-)but I have read and re read SSH MANY times. And while I will agree to a certain extent that they bot hcover BASICALLY the same principles and strategies I found it a lot easier to read Harmon and directly incorporate the ideas into my play succesfully then I ever did with Sklansky. If that makes sense? I'm just getting off my 16 hour shift here So don't mind me if I'm talking crazy. I'm gunna go sleep now but I'll check back tomorrow and give you a fully aware and awake opinion
