just played omaha for first time ever

Recommended Posts

OK so I just finished playing Omaha for the first time in my life. HOLY COW IS THIS GAME FUN!?!!!I lost $50 in first 20 minutes, but ended up coming back and made like $30 profit after playing for a few hours.I couldnt believe how big pots got so quickly! There was a $140 pot in $0.10/$0.25 PL!Took me a while to adjust cause I kept wanting to use 3 cards. One thing I didnt realize at first was you HAD to use at least 2 of your hole cards. Board was like TJQK3 with no flush draws possible and I had A455. My happy ass was raising like a fool and the guy with KK ended up winning, ooops lesson learned!I had quads twice in an hour, TTTT and KKKK which was nice.Anyways just wanted to share my discovery of this game and how much fun I thought it was.

I remember the first time i played omaha. Ah the memories, it truly is my favorite game, and it's awesome because you get people who are transferring from Holdem to playing omaha, and just learning the game. There is good money in it if you dont run into the wrong players.

Cash...cow. Love Omaha, especially since it's rare that f you ctach anything you're drawing dead. It's cool.

Omaha is very fun when you're playing with bad players.Omaha is very AWFUL when you're playing with good players. Money usually just rotates around. Maybe someone makes a sneaky straight flush against your ace high flush. Or maybe someone's top-fullhouse is beaten by quads. Thank GOD I'm not good enough to play with any other good players.Ice

And this is why i love omaha. I took a friend into and online Omaha P/L room after he's been having some troublesome beats in HE. I coached him while he played, i didn't play so as to avoid the whole collusion thing, but in 12 minutes he had built his original 20 dollar buy in to 80. After another 10 minutes it was 110. Total, he played 53 hands of P/L Omaha, and made a total of 61 dollars. Fun stuff. Can be a cash cow.

yea this is insane. And above I did mean you have to use exactly and only 2 hole cards not at least.Amazing how much hands can swing from the flop to the turn to the river.I flopped a straight, turn brought a flush for a guy, then the river paird the board and gave a fullhouse to a 3rd guy. All of us had the nuts at one point. This game makes you think a lot more and I like that. If you havent tried it yet, give it whirl!

Omaha intimidates me. I've only played a few freeroll tourneys in it, but see the prospect of adding it to my game. I'm a fairly good HE player, and a really good 7Stud player. Omaha is tough at the start, but I'm intrigued...

Omaha is definitely a game where you're never safe, unless it's the river and you have the absolute stone cold nuts. I like it, myself, though right now my Stars bankroll ($5.67 woo!) is not at a point where I can afford to sit down and try to improve at it at even the lowest limits.

it's a game of pot odds and big betting. Nice game.
I've been playing $1/$2 on stars and the pots get so big so quick. I tend to hit and run where I can..10c/.25c on stars is great. Its funny, becasue of the smaller pool of players compared to Hold Em, the faces are the same day in day out. Like a quote from rounders when the players are seated at the TAJ, Pirhana's dont eat other Pirhana's.Like other posters have said the nuts from flop to river can swing so quickly. Especially for newbies who either chase draws or just cant get away from a nut flush when the board is paired.I sit playing the above limit while watching TV as its such an easy way to top up your bankroll. Learn the game people. Its the next big thing

Omaha is fine online but in a casino, it takes forever to play a hand, especially if a few of the players are newbies, also splitting the pot is time consuming .

you only normally split the pot if your playing 8 o/b, he's talking about PLO

I've been learning O/8 lately, and it's shocking how bad most players are. I took 2nd in the first O/8 MTT I played in after reading nothing other than the first half of the O/8 chapter in Super System. Really really basic strategy understanding will get you far in those things in that game.

Only reason I thought of this thread was because I had this 10 minute argument with some idiots at the bar last night about Omaha. We were playing for fun in between the tournament games. Dude had KKxx and another dude had A9xx, board came out A7444 and the dude with the A9xx was trying to say he won the pot. I did everything in the world from pulling 2 cards out of the middle and 2 cards from his hands, but he couldnt see how he only had 444A9 or AA449 while the other guy had KK444. Very frustrating, he was like "I'll bet you $100 I win, I'm like ok i'm in" then he is like hahah payup sucker. Grrr wTF
