i would like to share something that happened in my own county that is related to this.PM John Howard said that some parts of the muslim community in australia is deliberately refusing to become part of the australian society.this is true in every sence. they still wear their head scarfes and traditional dress and expect to not be singled out. the refuse to comply with the law and believe that they are free to do what they want.he basically said that they are in australia and must compy with our laws.the muslim community went NUTS over this and he was made out to be a criminal by about half of the nation.complete bull crap. when somebody comes to my country they should learn our language, get rid of their traditional clothing, start obeying the law.if they dont like it then they can get the hell out. its simple.they dont want to comply, send em off in a boat.

What laws were they breaking? And do you seriously think that it's a good idea for the government to dictate what people should wear? What if they banned earrings or tattoos or running shoes.Aside from safety concerns, people should be free to wear what they want.

For more insight into biases, particularly those that exist in our subconscious, check out Steven Levitt's book, Freakonomics. Interesting stuff.

Another great book that touches on these topics is Malcolm Gladwell's Blink. There is also a lot of cool stuff in there about making snap judgements and when you can trust those judgements. One of the things he touches on in the book is an online test at Harvard's website that can test your unconscience views on race. If you have a moment you should check it out: Project Implicit. It is kind of similar to the tests given to the school kids in the 20/20 episode.
