ok the area I play at has 4/8 Fixed limit Omaha hi/lo 8 or better

I think i have been playing wrong. as 1 day i win alot, the next 2 days , i loose it all back.

My thought has been since everyone is going for low, why not play for high.

looking around, im seeing in this game, people dont state that AAKK double suited are strong hands. but rather

AA23 is the strongest hand. or a234 or a267 double suited.

should i focus on low in this game?

I find myself playing way too many hands because im not sure on how to exactly play this game. and it seems The game is alot looser than low limit Holdem.

as a NOOB, what hands should i only play.

In holdem im not afraid to fold 16 hours straight to get the best hand and pot.

I can fold alot in Omaha if i knew what not to play.

Playing for the high in a split pot game is exactly the wrong way to play.

The way to make money is to scoop pots so you want to play hands with the potential for both low and high.

You win the high a lot of the time by backing in to something when going for the low.

Also playing tight is the correct way to play and watch your draws. In loose Omaha 8 games there is nothing worse then drawing to things like crappy flushes since a better flush draw is often out there.

This is probably the key to low limit O/8/ Try to make sure you are only drawing to the nuts. With a lot of players seeing every flop and every one having 4 cards most hands are won by the nuts.

Same rules hold true .. call/raise with great to 'the nuts' draws and focus on hands that can scoop both ends. Your statement that AA23 (2-suited) is probably the best starting hand for this game ... low nut draw with 2 nut flush draws, but don't fall in love with AA power for the high split like you would in NLH. Omaha is a game of high aggression, your best bet is to sit back and watch/learn but only proceed with hands you are comfortable with playing. Build a nice 'nitty' image and use that image to thin the herd when you are in a hand. I suspect you will not win the huge pots you can sometimes see in Omaha but you will win a higher percentage of pots you play in, which is much more important ... good luck going forward.

There can be arguments made to pull out of this tight range depending on what your table is like. But for a player new to O8 the best recommendation is to play as tight as possible, nut only hands, A2XX where X=345JQK. Sit back wait for these hands, and watch the play to learn the game. Once you've seen a flop if you haven't caught a piece big enough to lead out with, then you should strongly consider folding before calling.

Also in O8 be very aware that it is not holdem and "bad beats" happen much more often, 1 card can change the deck and usually there's 5-25 cards that can kill your made hand. Take your beats well and keep playing inside your game.
