#3777319 China News Thread

Posted BigDMcGee on 16 September 2019 - 01:02 AM

BG arguing on behalf of fair labor practices, will wonders never cease.

Also the idea that we can let or prevent China from doing anything militarily through a trade embargo is hubris at this point. China has an advanced economy with advanced technology and an advanced military. They aren't north Korea, they already have a gigantic, nuclear capable military. If we wanted to prevent them from creating a military that threatened Taiwan or their other neighbors, we should have dropped the bomb on them during the Korean war. That ship sailed long ago. What prevents China from invading Taiwan is the same thing that kept Russia at bay during the Cold War, mutually assured destruction and them not willing to risk the US keeping it real.

For the record, I don't think the US would be willing to keep it real to save Taiwan, and I also think China knows it. How tolerant they are to take that risk in the future is a whole other question..

#3777208 What Was The Best Concert You Ever Seen (And The Worst)?

Actually the best I've ever seen was on DVD - "Nirvana Live at Reading". The amount of energy that came from those 3 musicians on that night was incredible...
If anyone wants to watch it, here it is. The first part of it is kind of funny. Kurt had been ill and in the hospital weeks before, and some in the media were wondering if he was OK....

One website listed the concert as one of the 10 greatest live concerts in rock history.

Last weekend was hot. My younger daughter played pretty good. She got stuck in as a pitcher against arguably the best team in Ontario and held her own but we still lost 15-0

Next game I will always remember. She hit her first home run but we lost 8-7

Back home Sunday night I thought damn I should have grab the ball. At practice for Monday the coachís husband gives me the ball. He grabbed it for her

#3776492 What Is The Last Movie You Saw?

John Wick 3

John Wick Kills Boban Marjanovic with a hard cover book in a library about ten minutes into this and it barely cracks the top 10 best scenes in the movie. I love John Wick and I hope they keep making them forever.

Day 1 of the expo. Went to Zets for breakfast as usual and headed in. Day started out slow and someone came by to see if I wanted to buy his cards. He started pulling out cards and I saw a Gretzky rookie. Negotiations started and I offer him $500 for the Gretzky, Crosby auto, Kobe auto, Patrick Roy auto and Ovy auto. He wanted more so I pull out 5 $100 and flashed it. I knew the deal was done. He took it

Within 5 mins the Kobe auto and Gretzky sold for $500. 2 hours latter the Crosby auto sold for $100. If you are wondering yes I sold them cheap. Could have sold the 3 cards for about $200 more but it was dump for a profit right away. Still have the Patrick roy auto and Ovy auto and expect to sell them quickly for $150.

Otto was sitting at the booth waiting for his buddies to arrive. I was walking around and saw a vlady jersey for $100. I thought wow what a deal. I have purchase other jerseys from him in the past and knew they are authentic and not fakes. Grab one and came over to the booth and threw it over to Otto. He absolutely loves it. Put it on and didnít take it off. 2 other guys saw it and asked me how much. They both ran over and got one too

I went in with very low expectations and believe I will do pretty good. So more money for the craps table in Vegas

If HBO continues to milk the GoT cow with spin off series, I hope it's an anthology, True Detective style, with one season story arcs throughout the world and history of the lands

If anyone is interested I am running a poker tournament for my daughters softball team. Itís in Aurora on March 23

I would like to thank JP and Sev for attending. We had a total of 67 players

JP came in 4th and Sev won the tournament

The team did extremely well and they now want to adopt my daughter on the team. The team is mainly 2008 girls and my daughter is a 2007. So next year we are on another team

Sev was also very generous and donated a part of his winnings back to the team

How about this: Vegas Flights. In the year 2050, in the last gasps of habitation on Earth, new planet assignments are broken down along class lines. Our scrappy orphan hero, Brayden "Chips" Higgins, dreams of winning an annual poker tounrament held by an unscrupulous casino/space travel tycoon, which grants upper-class citizenship on Planet Zazbonax to its lucky winner. But all is not as it seems, and matters are complicated when Chips finds love in the least likely of places...sitting across the table.
