Dermott and Gardiner hurt. This feels like a disaster

no problem. I'm sure Bab's coaching experience and how he's prepared players like Holl all season will make everything just fine

Thought I would share this:

One of my best friends, when he was 15 and I was 17...decided he would sleepover on Carlton St the night before Leafs playofff tickets went on sale.
So, a few of us drove down to the Gardens, and we dropped him off on a Friday night at 7/8pm, and left him there.(great friends huh?)

He made friends with these older guys in line right behind him, and they helped us by buying some tickets for us.....so 8 of us friends went to 4? playoff games, 4 people at a time. (ya, I was once a pretty big Leafs fan.lol)
The friends he made that night in line would then go on to hire him the following year as part of a high school co-op, and start him off on a 25 year career path, at a business where he would meet people who would marry into his family.
To this day, those friends are some of his best friends. And over the years one friend in particular and my buddy would pair up to become Leafs season tix holders, and they would go on Leafs road trips to Chicago/Buffalo/Mtl.

This year, my friend, his sister, and the lifelong friend he met in line that night, decided they would travel to see the Leafs in every other original 6 city. They did Chicago in the fall, Detroit last week, Mtl tonight, NYR tomorrow. Not sure if Boston was done already or will be.

He sent me pics tonight, looked so cool to be in Mtl as a Leafs fan.

I shared this because its the Leafs, but more so, as I was telling his story to other friends tonight, I realized how incredible life is. The idea that he made lifelong friends/mentors that night in line for a Leafs playoff game, and we had to drop him off at the EXACT moment to put him in that spot in line....crazy to think how life works, where love of sports can lead.

anyway, Go Leafs Go. haha

it's crazy how many people send hockey cards to Devan hoping for a signature. It's usually blatantly obvious which ones are actual kids/fans and which ones are autograph hounds with a template letter that they've sent to hundreds of players. I'd say about 95% are just autograph hounds/professionals. Devan tries to sign and return cards to the actual fans or at least the ones that put in the requisite effort to appear to be fans.
Tell him to start "signing" things like this: https://www.youtube....h?v=2P0cEJX54WQ

While its been a very tough year for Adrian's team he had a pretty big tournament this weekend in San Jose. It was the Silver Sticks which a huge North American tourney winners were to go to Canada. We didnt qualify( his younger friends on the Peewees did however)

So Adrian's stat line for the weekend.. 2-1-1 110 shots against ...3 GA.... 0.75 GAA .973 Save percentage with 2 shutouts (shots were actually more, as one game the scorekeeper wasnt paying attention)

You would think that would be good enough to at least make it to the final of a tourney..Unfortunately the team scored a total of 4 goals and we lost a weird mathematical tie breaking procedure where we needed one more goal to advance.

While its been the worst team he has been on overall, he is turning some heads as he had some suits watching him at the tourney. He has gained a lot of confidence and has handled the added stress very well. The way the team is set up, if he has an off game the team has no chance to win. Last year he would have off games and the team would pick him up by scoring 6 or 7..Not an option this year as we are typically outshot by a huge 2-1 or even 3-1 margin.

He is going to a fairly large tryout in two weeks , where its the first step in identifying the top American hockey players at different ages. He got a special invite to try out, even though he doesnt play on a "tier" team. If he makes it then he will go to a camp with all the top kids in the Pacific district.

He is at an age now, where if he wants to pursue this, he has to want to work at it. I ask him every day and so far he seems to want to. While playing pro is not in the cards, there are a lot of opportunities to play at a high level Junior team and possibly get a college scholarship.

I read this thread from the beginning sometimes, just to see how far we have come along in Minor hockey.

Guys, Im not sure if you have seen/read this, but I saw this story again today, and I wanted to share. If its all as true as they say, it really says a lot about Mrazek.

Petr Mrazek: Straight from Waddell: “The first day we could talk to free agents I called him and we talked for about half an hour. He said ‘Don, I know things didn’t go well for me last year. I want a chance to prove to be a number one guy. I want just a one-year contract, $1.5 million.’ He could’ve been like the rest of those guys asking for $2-3 million for two or three years, but he was more worried about the opportunity to prove himself than he was the money. It’s a funny story, the next day I called his agent and said ‘I guess I got a deal with Petr’ and he asked me what I was talking about. I said ‘Well, he told me what he wanted last night,’ and his agent said ‘No, no, no. … that’s not what he wants!’ He called me back an hour later and said ‘Welp, if you want him that’s the deal. He told you that, so.’

“I like when a player wants to take that responsibility and put that pressure on his shoulders. If he said two years, $2.5 million, who knows — maybe we wouldn’t have done that. But he said he wanted a one year deal to prove that he could be the guy.”

Thanks Dave! You are so good, that I MISSED the late changes, entered your original lineup in the 100k spy contest, finished 22nd out of 1.1k and won $600 on my single $100 entry. Your amend3d lineup would have finished 4th beh8nd John racener for $3,000. I hope you don’t mind me riding your expertise!

One of my ongoing fun games is to look at Dubey’s lineup on Saturday, take note of a couple players I’ve barely heard of, and wait for the Sunday alert that one of those players has scored 3 touchdowns

I think there needs to be a small white truck parked next to the scene of the accident, watching but not participating.

Not here for an argument. I personally enjoy video games. But there's plenty of info out there about Fortnite and the way it's eclipsing every record for video games by a fair margin. In my house, with my 13 year old, it almost cost him his honours graduation from grade 8. After being warned in school about playing games, he still got caught playing fortnite on his laptop in class. No other video game came remotely close to anything beyond 'current interest' with him until fortnite came out. The first article is the long paper on the build characteristics of these newest games.

I still play video games daily. Not as much as I'd like but once the kid is in bed my wife usually reads and I hop on my PS4 or Pc. Fortnite is pretty big. It's no different than League of Legends or CSGO though since those games have all had similar stories in their closet. Myself, I have over 1500 hours in CSGO.

I question why a 9 yr Old has access to the game and also why they have access to a credit card. My soon to be 8 yr old is not allowed to play Fortnite, period. He also has zero access to our credit cards. I'll be "that guy" and say that yes video games are addictive but there needs to be some blame on the parents because they seem to not know wtf their kids are doing some 5-6 hours a day.

Jin plays games. He doesn't play alone. One of us is always around when he plays. Sometimes we play together. I'm a strong advocate that gaming can be beneficial. The things he creates in minecraft are amazing. Imo it's no different than grabbing a piece of paper and crayons and drawing. Or getting a box of Legos and building something. It's just you do it on a tv. I do let him play Dark Souls which was frowned upon by my wife but over time it's actually had noticeable benefits. It's a very challenging game. It's violent in that you kill monsters of all types with swords. I turn blood off. If there was killing of humans it would have been a no go. Jin of the past would give up challenges pretty quick. He would have melt downs if he couldn't "master" something immediately. But his love of this game changed that. He would literally die 15 times to the same boss but keep on trying until he would beat it and the joy of doing so was enormous. It's now moved on to other parts of his life. He doesn't meltdown anymore. He keeps pushing/trying to get better or accomplish his goals. It was clear that the challenge was what he fixated on and not the stabbing, lol. So we let him play. He wants to play Fortnite. But using guns to kill others regardless of the cartoon graphics just doesn't sit well with us. There are for more suitable games he can play. Just wish I could get him into Madden, FIFA, and NHL lol.

I forgot my original point lol.
