Thanks for the info Dale, but do you think these guys deal with the 'party' elections too?

I'll try anyway, but man I'm furious right now. Whats ironic is that I would have prob voted PC in this election anyway, but this is so fraudulent.

I would call the “friend” and ask why they did this. I hear you I would be angry too. However I have been harping to my family how I will never vote liberal again. The last 2 premiers of Ontario have been crooks especially Wynne. My girls even asked me if I would vote PC if Ford wins. I said let me cross that bridge if it happens.

Well I guess I better come up with an answer

My good friend who has been a conservative his entire life, sent me a text last night screen shot of a receipt.

I have a client who has been a liberal. She said she would never ever vote Liberal again. I wonder what she has to say now.

Perfect storm for the NDP just like 1990.

I’d never vote conservative, but it really seems to be that Liberal politicians are held to personal and political ethics much higher than that of conservatives.

I’m talking generally, though Wynne and Trudeau certainly come to mind. It’s just kind of assumed conservatives are dishonest about their motives and personal ethics and liberals are all goody two-shoes so if they do something approximately the same, the liberal gets excoriated and middle-ground people like many of you bust them for corruption, while it’s just kind of water off a ducks back for conservatives.

Again, this is not specific to the Fords, who are obviously way past anything reasonable and even conservative-leaning people I know (including people in this thread!) have not been shy to point that out.

I never understood how anyone can Never vote for or against a certain party throughout their lives. Lets say someone you know and respect tells you one day they are running for the Conservative party in your riding. You know the person, trust the person, and you know they will do a good job. But because they have a blue sign you won't support that person?

If it was 2018, then no I wouldn’t vote for that person because the policies of the Conservative party is very far out of line with what I believe. In 10 or 30 or 50 years, party’s positions certainly change and so I shouldn’t say “never”.

depends what you're looking for. somewhere upscale? Or casual?

Hogan's is good. Pub downstairs for casual is a good food/fun place. Never been upstairs, but I heard its really good and a little more upscale.

Sarpa is really nice, a little $$, but very very good. Its a little east of KC though, more Oak Ridges

Casual, quick. Will be doing some field work up there tomorrow and will need to find dinner. Will have an hour or so, probably a little more. Will have a car, so I can drive to a nearby town as well.

The Hwy 7 subway extension is the greatest infrastructure move this city has ever made. I am thinking it was Sorbara and Miller that hatched the plan?

Hwy 400 south has never been lighter, which means people are using it to get downtown. Looking at the 404-DVP combo its time for the Sheppard line to hang a left and head up to Richmond Hill-Markham.

Its a shame that Mississauga Mayor wants nothing to do with stretching the Eglington Crosstown subway.

Crosstown will (should) veer up to the airport. But it will connect with the newly built Mississauga transitway (bus rapid transit), which is good. Perhaps in time it could be retrofitted to rail (as they're doing in Ottawa with its transitway), but for now, likely not enough demand for it.

I don't think taking the Sheppard line north has ever been contemplated. Yonge will eventually be extended, but it will overload the existing line if we don't build the relief line subway first, which is the east end's version of the Spadina line (the Hwy 7 line, as you put it). But we have to get on with it, because it needs to start downtown and work its way further north. IMO, it needs to go at least to Eglinton (to connect to Crosstown) in Phase 1, but they're currently designing it only to Danforth. Phase 2 design is underway, but separate at this time, as far as I know. Eventually, it will need to connect in to the Sheppard line, likely at Don Mills. From there, it could potentially continue north to Markham Centre, but this is a long ways away.

In the nearer term, GO's expansion will be very critical for eastern York Region. Having better service on the Stouffville line, all-day, two-way, 15 min or better headways, including express trains seems to be the plan at the moment. This should be done easily within 10 years, unless a new government halts that work. GO's Regional Express Rail plan, when finished, will be really improve the way we move around the region. Fares will need to be sorted out so they're not a huge barrier, especially a co-fare with the TTC (though GO-TTC recently implemented a 50% off TTC discount, so a $1.50 savings each way when you use Presto and switch between the two services).

Something N-S between Yonge and the Stouffville line would be nice too, and that's where the Relief Line comes in. It's just that it's a million years away In the shorter term, you can supplement it with bus lanes, etc, but that requires taking room away from cars, so typically a non-starter here, even if it moves more people more efficiently overall.

Aside, I drove the 400 in rush hour out of the city on Friday and it was a miserable experience. No idea how people do it daily, and unsure why people fight tooth and nail to maintain this transportation system and land use pattern that is soooo inefficient and really, something everyone complains about constantly.

If we could build our way out of congestion with more roads, it would be one thing, but we just can't, and it's way too difficult for people to accept that. It's getting more widely accepted, and certainly is fact within the profession, but the voting public hasn't entirely caught on yet, especially those relying on highways where transit is abysmal in its current incarnation.

The cost of using Go and TTC is way too expensive coming in from lets say Hamilton. I have a customer (2 of them) who do it on a daily basis and says its cheaper for them to drive and park.

I hope the government looks at helping businesses along the way if they extend Yonge Street. That Eglinton Crosstown is ruining many livelihoods. My suggestion was to not charge property tax for however many months work is being done, slowing down that particular property/business. The landlord would than in turn pass that savings to the tenant.

I am just glad actual infrastructure change is being done, instead of just being debated.
