Bad Beat Jackpot Story

Recommended Posts

So I go meet my buddy last night at the local casino and he is playing $2-$5 no limit when I get there. There are two $2-$5 tables running and I get seated at the other one when I get there and he is at the main table. After about a half hour or so he comes over and talks with me to see how I'm doing and then he goes to the bathroom. 2 minutes later there is a huge ruckus at his table with everyone standing up. I walk over with a few other guys and find out there is a 3 way all in. One guy has quad 10's and the other had Aces full of 10's and this qualifies as the bad beat jackpot. Of course everyone goes nuts and there are a ton of high fives everywhere. I was also going nuts because I have never been there when the bad beat has happened. As I'm high fiving people my friend walks back... from the bathroom. Since he was not dealt into the hand he got no share of the jackpot which his cut would have been about 4 grand. So next time you are at your local casino and need to take a piss, you may want to think about holding it in. Luckily there were 3 or 4 guys that each gave him $100 so that may help ease the sting a little bit. On second thought probably not.

They deal him in and that hand never happens...good for him to get a couple hundred out of it..
Ahh very true. Thanks I will tell him that and I don't know why I didn't think of that in the first place. On second thought this is not a bad beat at all and now I'm pissed he got there before I did.

Since we are doing bad beat jackpot stories here's mine. For anyone who doesn't know the rules, you need to have aces full of tens or better beaten by 4 of a kind or better using both whole cards. I'm dealt KK utg and raise (limit game) I get reraised by BB and I cap and we get 2 callers. Flop is A82, I check and a guy bets, I call along with the other raiser. Turn is an A. I check, guy bets again, we both call. River is an A. This time I bet because I am thinking I have the best hand or I have the jackpot. He raises and the guy behind him reraises and I'm getting excited because an A8 or better gets me a jackpot. Two of us call it down, one flips over QQ, and the raiser flips A4 off! NOOOOO! All Im thinking is A4 off in a capped pot...you son of a *****. I wanted to throw a chair. That was the worst bad beat possible.

I worked at my local casino last year and when we went through training they talked about this specifically and said that it happens relatively frequently. Like every couple months of so....

At my local casino it's Aces full of JACKS have to get beaten by anything better. Both players MUST use BOTH hole cards.

I played a lot of live this weekend, it's just stupid how much money people waste trying to get a jackpot.I saw this dumbass check down her A's full of K's in hopes of winning the bad beat. I didn't like her for other reasons, but suffice it to say I felt pretty good when I snapped her set with my flush.

That really sux for your friend..The casinos in florida have the same rule. He should have said something to everyone at the table, like, "ok if the bad beat hits I want my share"…People always agree because they don't expect it to hit. But if it does he still gets his share.

I am going to say that story is made up.I read a similar one somewhere else where it was some old dude who folded his winner when he had someone else beat with a straight flush against quads or something like that. Like he gave the dude the pot instead of the jackpot.I dont think anyone in their right mind would fold a jackpot hand like that because they are also hurting the table. Money is money.Still an entertaining read regardless.

I actually live in Phoenix and something somewhere along those lines happened last friday. Heads up pot :Flop : A-4-A (action)Turn: 6 (action)River: A (action)Guy flips up A-10 , other guy says "Damnit, I knew you had it!!" before flashing his cards (J-J) and tossing them in the muck. He didn't realize it was a jackpot hand. <----True story

Just putting out there for everyone, I know it's old but still amusing. The Ultimate Bad Beat
That story has been around for a bit now, it still is a great read. I dont think it is fake, it is on the bluffmag site. For some reason though I remember reading a different version of the same story(writing stlye that is).

I was playing at my local cardroom and was called off the $6/12 table for the weekly tourney probably a year and a half ago. Very next hand the PROGRESSIVE (ie $40K) bad beat jackpot gets hit. Shiite. It's those same jackpots that keep everybody in every hand till the goddamn river a lot of the time when you're playing limit BTW.

A dealer told me they had to change the rule at Circus Circus because a guy didn't want to miss the bad beat. He drank a bunch of beers and pissed himself.
