I Called In Sick Today

Recommended Posts

The big boss man at work wears a gold Rolex every day and I always end up staring at it whenever I have a meeting with him. Last meeting he was telling me how he already maxed his 401k for the year ((we only had 4 paychecks and I guess his bonus by then) and how he’s maxed it every year since he started work) and then admonished me when I said I haven’t done the same and I should sacrifice more to do so.

If you are paying $20 for a haircut, I imagine people assume you did it yourself anyway.

and after 3 days, he is risen!

Pocket change cost me my first and only black girlfriend.   It was in the middle of a roaring poker boom and I was flush in ways most men don't even bother dreaming of. Money, it was like dirt to me

Yeah I don’t agree with that at all. Someday you might want to start your own practice and it does you no good to have a good chunk of all your excess earnings locked up.

At least, that’s why I contribute the absolute minimum to get the match (even do pretax rather than Roth). I am for sure going to want to do outside investment stuff, be that starting my own consultancy firm or private placements, or whatever.

I can’t see myself having one of those absurd yellow gold Rolex watches. They’re like $40k and the biggest “rob me” sign ever.

maybe i don't understand math or gambling, but that is insanely stupid.

at this point i don't really get into filling out a bracket any more or worry about what happens beyond KU winning. which is sad because years ago i would watch every game and live and die with my picks.

So was it you?

To be fair, both of your scenarios are equally sad.

I couldn't let this die alone on the last page so had to give it the ol' QFT.

This has been a fantastic tourney. I was pulling for Buffalo and Marshall to get to the sweet 16, but I wasn't too invested.

We just need Kentucky, Kansas, and Duke to all lose and then everything will be right in the world. If any of them win their championship will eventually be vacated which seems like such a waste.

I watched Auburn beat College of Charleston. I then watched a portion of them getting stomped by Clemson. That's more college basketball than I've watched in years.

So, guess I haven't been around in a while. I tend to mostly browse here when I'm on my desktop...which hasn't been a ton the past couple of months.

My wife and I went to Iceland for a long weekend a few weeks ago. That was fun. Our first time out of the country since going to the DR 3 years ago. Not sure when we'll get to go abroad next.

Went to a bachelor party this past weekend for a college friend. About a dozen guys...we rented a beach house in Jacksonville. They went a strip club the first night (I opted out). The second evening, we played a 7-person $10 STT...which I was happy to win. On the third morning, we went to a place called Top Golf that was quite cool. It's basically a high-tech driving range. Think bowling crossed with golf. Anyway, I could see myself actually going to one a few times a year if there was one closer. I got ahold of a few balls initially. Considering it had been many many years since I'd hit a golf ball, I was happy to be competitive - even if my brother crushed everyone.

Spring break is this week, so looking forward to grinding out some poker while my wife's not working. Also have an interview for a remote full-time job, so that should be interesting.

How was it? What kinds of things did you do? I'm guessing you don't know icelanic.

Suited, what about this?

https://www.grand-se...ctions/SBGA211/

The grand seiko line is so ****ing awesome because most people will look at one and think it's a nice looking inexpensive quartz watch but watch people will know it's a quality automatic to rival the best swiss manufacturers. The spring drive is legit in the horology world.

I'd love to own the snowflake. The linen dial with the blue second hand and the way the indicies pop off the surface is super attractive but I would be worried the power reserve indicator would drive me bananas. I have the SBGR061 with a cream dial, blue second, and date complication on my wish list. It has the older Seiko logo under 12 o'clock and the grand seiko branding above the 6 o'clock which makes it more stealthy.

What about this one?

https://m.rolex.com/...14300-0003.html

This is nice if you like the look. I'd buy used unless you expect to pass it down to your son someday.

My brother, the one that never posted here, described Rolex as a “good, basic starting point” for watches (“timepieces”). Obviously I am not playing in the same tax bracket as he is.

What's on his wrist? I'll guess an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 41 if he's cool, a Patek Philippe moon phase if he's as much of a pretentious twat as your post implies, or a jaeger lecoultre reverso if he's all kinds of awesome.

A lot of watch people look at rolex as a quality tool watch, which some are, and a lot of non-watch people look at rolex as overpriced douchey status symbols, which can also be true. I'd happily wear an Explorer no date 214270, Milgause, or even a Submariner 14060M.

Also on my wants list besides the GS and Explorer:

(my next purchase) Omega Speedmaster Pro 42 sapphire sandwich (I'd prefer a snoopy speedy but they're stupid expensive due to the collectors market)

Jaeger LeCoultre Master ultra thin moonphase

Panerai Luminor PAM005

DornBluth & Sohn cal.99.1 with blue applied numerals

Sinn 556 anniversary anthracite dial

I don't have enough money to collect watches but they're fun to get to know and dream a little. Watches are the nicest machines ever made by man which are obtainable to the general public.

He has a Panerai of some kind, a green Submariner, a Lange Saxonia, and I think some kind of a sporty Patek from before the prices went bonkers. He may have a few others he hasn't mentioned to me, possibly a JLC.

Setting aside all the other valid reasons not to do it, I would be worried about getting a Rolex due to the way people would react at work. If money wasn't a factor, yadda yadda, I'd probably go with this model:

Strat I have an amazing investment opportunity for you. It's you give me money to buy this cool house that is just out of my budget and is on the market for less than it sold in 2005 despite it being in really good condition. And also I don't really have to pay you back and also you just give me money every month as rent even though you're not living here. Thanks

Not that you even need to see the place before you snap accept such an amazing opportunity but this is the place. I could make it work but I'd be extremely house poor unless I got a roommate or two, which I'd prefer to not have to have.
