Ron_Mexico 4,219
He traded on the nerdy, nice guy thing. Fun to hang out with. Relatively thin. Had a few professional designations (so had the trappings of good income). I can understand why she liked him. I love how you equate all things good to being thin, income and professional designations. And by love, I mean it frustrates me. If you aren't thin, making $100k a year and have letters behind your title, you're less than human. Maybe I'm projecting, but not completely
Ron_Mexico 4,219
i'm very nice and it wouldn't be illegal to refer to me as relatively thin. Relative to who? He kinda boxed you in
SuitedAces21 2,722
that's the point relatively thin is a meaningless phrase without more info. and no one boxes me in, i box them in.

Maybe I'm projecting, but not completely I don't think like that, but I think a lot of the girls at work do. She jokingly gave me criteria to apply to our client base, to kickstart her dating search, and it was basically an income range and characteristics amounting to that. CobaltBlue 662
So it was an interesting crypto weekend. A friend called me Friday and asked if I had 9btc available to sell to a friend of his. His friend worked for a county government revenue office that got hit by ransomware. They needed 9btc by Monday morning. As of that time, it was about $3750/btc and thus worth around $34k - not an easy amount to obtain on short notice. Anyway, told him I wasn't really looking to sell...that I could do $1.2k. On Saturday, they offered to pay me $5k/btc. That offer was too sweet to turn down, so I liquidated 90% of my entire crypto portfolio over the next day and found the full amount. Have spent the past few days trying to then buy back in...which I've almost completed. BTC went up a smidge in the meantime but fairly inconsequential. Sadly my second heaviest crypto decided to randomly jump 25%, so that's irritating. Anyway, was still a decent pickup for a weekend.
The Opulent Gentleman 79
Why didn't they just buy it on an exchange? (maybe a dumb question, I don't understand "things in general")
Theraflu 1,035
On coinbase right now, the most I could buy on a card is 6k. I'm sure it varies, but just picking up 9 bitcoins isn't that easy. Now, tie it into a government that is going to have to explain this very large transaction at multiple stages, and Colby is probably the safest and easiest way to do it. InternetExplorer 2,609
My understanding is that some ransomwares don’t have any intention or ability to give you your data back. Paying them off seems kinda silly unless you legitimately were totally unprepared and have no backups. In which case, I guess it’s your best bet.
InternetExplorer 2,609
What the **** are you doing with that much bitcoin though. What the **** is anyone in that story doing.
Theraflu 1,035
Colby gambles with it in place of dollars. It just gets converted when you play USD tournies. And BTC only shot up relatively recently. Shit, I think I ran up like 7 coins just in their casino, but I cashed it out for like 3k. Woops! We had a municipality around here get in a similar situation a couple years ago, and they paid. You gotta realize how small-time most local government is.
