I'm in panic mode. Not assuming what I currently think is going to happen will but I'm in that place right now and trying to work through it. If I didn't go through what we went through 8 years ago during the recession I probably would be as panicked but it was a horrible time and to think we'd have to put Jin through it breaks my heart and scares me. But I will reiterate that I'm just panicking. In a few days I'll settle down but arp asked and I answered. I respect and like you guys and feel this is a good place to just vent.

vent away my friend. I like to vent here at times too, and I genuinely asked out of a real desire to know where you guys were at.

fwiw, my personal feeling is that an economic recession could have hit EITHER candidate. Hopefully this one and his team skirts around it, and figures out a plan.

I'm hearing a lot of good things from a lot of people I respect from the "other" side. Like Obama said this is what America is about and we have to respect the process and the President no matter who it is. I am also seeing a lot of anger from people that are #notmypresident. #movingtoCanada

I get the feeling of being scared, pissed off and angry. I'm sure I would felt that way initially if Hillary won last night.

This is an opportunity for the nation to come together. Take away all the sound bytes , media rhetoric and just listen to the issues. A lot of what Trump is trying to do makes sense for America. You don't have to agree but I think this might be an epic time in modern history where conventional politics in Washington will be thrown out the window. Special interests and corruption are a detriment to democracy and governing for the people.

I know Steve might be scared for his family. But there are millions of people who lost their life savings , houses and jobs because of a crooked government and policies that created an unbelievable recession. We can blame that on Bush, Clinton or whomever. Bottom line is it was due to greed and bad government policies. IMO. It's not about Trump being a Republican. Because he isn't the Bushes, he is anti Washington. This is why he won. A lot of people are sick of it and want to start the movement led by Donald Trump.

If you think he is going to knock on doors looking for illegal Mexicans and Muslims , it's a fantasy world. It won't happen.

People laughed when he declared. He beat 16 people. People laughed at his chances against Hillary. He won states that were never even in play. He turned the polls upside down.

Now people are saying he will be the worst president. I say give him a chance. Lot of people will be surprised only if they educate themselves and listen to the other side.

Racism is rampant regardless of who is in power. I think most of you may have seen the CNN talking head in his tirade last night. He call this a "Whitelash". This is dangerous talk. This is racism at its best. Trump will hopefully end it

Obv.

I just think the way this election was portrayed, by BOTH sides, is as divisive as any election I have ever seen . I think this further detoriates the situation, and I think this man in charge, MAY further engulf the flames. Building a wall, closing the doors to muslim immigrants.....we shall see.

But I do agree with you in that we really don't know what will happen. I have no better guess/knowledge than anyone else on here as to how this will play out. A lot will depend on the team around him, obviously, and its amazing how much attention is paid to the top spot, when the secondary spots are largely ignored and yet so important. Anyway, we shall see I guess.

Oh but the secondary spots scare me. Giuliani. The guys a wacko. As AG or dr of homelands security? How FCK no.

Gingrich as sec of state? Holy FCK no.

Christie as whatever? Omg no. It's the scariest bunch I can think of.

Just curious, what makes a politician a politician?

And what point will you ever think that Trump is a politician?

If he doesnt come thru with his election promises, does this then make him a politician who lied and is corrupt?

I'm just wondering, because I never understand how people think that the guy running for President, whoever and whatever background they have, isnt somehow going to lie and make promises they dont keep.

I guess those that believe in him think that this man is above all that. Will be really interesting to see the reaction of his followers if any of those pledges and promises do not pass, especially since there is no excuse at this point. Maybe now they can actually look at him and judge him solely on his abilities, instead of always just focusing on the other side.

A career politician is I think pretty self explanatory. Clinton have 30 years in politics. Trump had no political experience

Do I think Trump will not lie and do everything he promises? Of course not. However I know he won't have the lobbyists in his pocket.

What the Wikileaks validated for us was the rampant corruption in Washington. Not just Democrat. Bit both sides.

Wanted to offer some advice on living conditions for Rosie O'Donnell. But apparently she blocked me on Twitter.

Sorry Rosie. I know some good real estate agents in Toronto. Call me.

And how do you know that? Which lobbyists are you referring to?

This is where you lose me. You think he and his team have no one to curry favour with? I dont agree with you at all on this.

It's fair to believe that. However check the amount of money Hillary got from corporations and big donors for this election.

It's amazing that Trump even had a chance

See, this is where you always lose me Serge. Trump won, elections over. I am asking you a question about Trumps presidency going forward. But you are still arguing the validity of his presidency by telling me things about Hillary. At what point do we get to just talk about HIM, and not his competition?

I asked you a question about Trump, 90% of your answer was about Hillary. Do you not find the irony in that, today?

You know what I think one of the main point about a politician is? Someone who deflects attention from the issues by presenting a negative of their opponent. Thats where I think Trump already is a politician.

Hillary is old news, its done, dont care. Only thing that should matter today is Trump.

Sorry. Maybe didn't understand your point. My point was the way Washington works is I'll give you $10 million and you help my lobby in Washington. It's not a knock on Hillary. It's a knock on the current system.

Trump may have done that during election for sure , as he ran against the most unpopular democrat in history.

However if you watched his speech last night he said NOTHING negative about Hillary. I hope that's the course we stay on.

Trump is used to the business world and there are some similarities I guess as you point out.

That's a great question. And I think great questions are a crucial part of improving things. If we want to move forward and improve the quality of life for everyone then we need to have an open dialogue...and asking great questions is the right path to take. Thank you, sir, for your great question.

Taxes go up. One thing I read showed that we might lose $200 a month of take home pay based on his plan. If true that right there puts us in the red. My wife's job is more stable during good economic times since she writes proposals for a hospital to receive millions of dollars in gifts and fundraising. If the economy crashes that job is at risk. If I don't get a decent job prior to the alleged crash then it'll be harder to find one. My wife's other job is as a freelance writer. The last recession saw a significant drop in freelance work. Freelance basically covers his education. I could go on but those are the basics.

Thank you for explaining.

I certainly hope the true impact ends up being very minimal.

Not to minimize Steves concerns, but I think I have the forum beat on how much this Trump win will cost someone's pocket book for the next 60 days.

Stupid fckers.

Sorry don't get it. Do you mean the USD?

right, and I think that will still happen under Trump and I think Congress will still keep working like that, unless he takes a serious stand against them. But he probably wont.

But man, would he ever impress me if he said " Screw you House+Senate, im changing the way you guys raise money for your campaigns, and im changing the way we do politics in this country, dont care if you're right or left".

then, if i saw serious gains there, he might just win me back a little from all the crap ive seen from him so far. big stretch but at least its a start.

I spent the last two days working 14 hour days, and most of it was with a sales agent from Italy.

After all the work was done, we had some drinks last night and watched the election unfold at a bar. He painted an interesting picture of how Trump reminded him so much of Berlusconi, and the more I thought about it, the more I saw the similarities. Funny how I never made the connection before, its really uncanny and Im actually a little disappointed in myself that I never thought of that before.

that connection has been pretty clear and commented on a lot.

Trump will be open for business. The funniest thing about his supporters is this whole well he's an outsider who is too rich to be effected by the money belief that they have.

Everything in the history of how he has acted in business screams that he will do everything to enrich himself and he doesn't give a shit about other people. He is a true grifter and he's conned a pretty high percentage of the population.

Trump may or may not be a billionaire today but he for sure will be one after this is all done.

This just came over my twitter timeline

A Schwarzenegger, a Berlusconi, or a Mussolini?

Well, that was an interesting election night...

Back in 2000 we had a chance to establish the principle in the running code of our constitution (as opposed to the specifications document) that electors switch so that the winner of the national popular vote becomes president. In fact, back in late October 2000 I was pushing that: I argued that if Al Gore won the electoral college but not the popular vote, he should direct his electors to vote for George W. Bush because the long run stakes at risk were too high for it to be wise to do otherwise.

We did not do that in 2000--to our great cost then, and perhaps to our greater cost now.

Certainly nobody is talking this morning about how electors have a duty to be faithless in the interest of recognizing the will of the popular majority.

The most likely outcome is that we have elected somebody like Arnold Schwarzenegger when he was Governor of California: a smart, highly undisciplined celebrity, who will try to govern by making celebrity sphere-like deals. Schwarzenegger found out that the politics of governance really does not work that way. And California had eight years of do-nothing rather than of good government. That is not a good outcome.

The next most likely outcome is that we have elected a Berlusconi: somebody who will try to loot as much as he can for him and his friends, and under whom policy will be a combination of random and rent-seeking. Italy seems to have lost a decade of economic growth as a result of Berlusconi. That is a bad outcome?

The tail risk, of course, is that we have elected a Mussolini. This is unfair, you may protest. I agree that it is a small risk. But note that Mussolini did not set out to be a terrible fascist dictator. He wanted to be powerful and famous, his judgment was not so good, and step followed step. We need to figure out how to guard against this tail risk. We need to figure out how to do that. Now.

So legalized recreational use for marijuana has passed in California. Should be interesting to see what develops.

There was also a prop to enforce condom use in pornos. I believe that didn't pass.

While I understand both points, what irks me is this:

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/chargers/2016/11/09/san-diego-voters-overwhelmingly-reject-chargers-stadium-plan/93531020/

I don't think the general public should fund it but they are actually charging visitors with an increase in hotel taxes. Owners holding fans hostage for their beloved teams ticks me off.
