Well clearly I wouldn't let a player of his caliber walk for 5.25. Obviously an oversight. But if you feel it necessary to put him back in the free agent pool, bob, that's your decision. I've already had owners contact me and in the spirit of fair play tell me they wouldn't bid on stastny, with the idea that I bid on him for 5.25 and out him back. I'm sure there are some that would disagree. There are times when the spirit of the rule Shiukd be considered. What if I had forgotten to list eichel? Same thing? But you do what you think the right thing is.

Stasny is very borderline at being signable at that amount of mone, he went for $4.25 at last year's auction. If it was an obvious player like Eichel that would be different.

If you would have included his contract amount in your calculations then that would have made it obvious that you intended on signing him.

Last year Greaseball forgot to sign Rasmus Ristolainen for $2.50 and he meant to sign him which was found out a day later just your situation. He ended up going for $2.00 at the auction.

I'll touch base with Daniel and see what he says. If he agrees with you then we'll put him on your roster at one year and $5.25. I don't think you'll be either helped or hurt by having him on your roster but in your case with you not being sure of the timing of the draft I can see why you would want him.

January 10th 2015. First overall in the AHL.     Heady days, friends. A certain NHL team from Toronto should take some notes: THIS was a rebuild.

Recently overheard conversation between one guy.   Steelheads: 'Oh, hey there, Steelheads, great job on having the early lead over the entire AHL!' Steelheads: 'Oh, thanks for noticing, Steelheads

Wow That was some guilt trip Chris for someone wanting to enforce a clear rule

Yeah you're totally right. After Bob replied, i re-read my own post and realized it sounded bad, so I called Bob to explain. What I told him was that I was absolutely fine with a decision either way. I was more concerned about the spirit of the situation. If a player is left off a roster AND a drop list, then why did that happen? What was the owners intent? My concern actually wasn't with Stastny, it was more of a what if i left a more significant player off? I actually told Bob that he SHOULD still leave Stastny off my roster, since that's the rule. I was really just questioning the intent of the rule, and in doing so, I sounded like a dick. Mea culpa.

Wow, not what I expected as a response either! I almost deleted my posts because it was a dick move to say anything against someone who is obviously not a dick or passive-aggressive any other times. Mea Culpa: Electric Boogaloo

FTR and FWIW I have no issue with Stastny staying on the Steelheads for $5.25. Oversights happen...even certified accountants make them...and that's what the week before draft should be for...to correct oversights. As long as there's no angle-shooting and given Stastny's salary that's not the case here at all.

In spirit, I agree with the above but precedent was set last year with Ruotsalainen

When I'm posting my roster it's my biggest worry that im going to forget to include an obvious signing like Steen, Jenner etc.

In this case I'm torn as most of you might be. It's obvious Chris just made an error. I like the pool to be run by rules that are firm however also makes sense.

Chris isn't angle shooting at all. He just made an omission. However a precedence was set and ruling was made last year.

I'm fine with either way the powers at be decide. If I forgot to sign Jenner then I would be pissed if I lost him.

Fwiw my team won't bid on Stastny, but only because I have Steen.

I think it happens on occasion. I think it happened with Wayne with Koivu this year. It definitely happened last year with Ruotsaleinen and the ruling was that the player was a free agent, which I also didn't know and I told bob makes me believe even more that, for now, Stastny should be a free agent, but lets look at the rule. Daniel dropped the wrong goalies. That's three mistakes this year, and no one was trying to pull a move. FTR, Daniel and wayne both changed their rosters to the proper alignment after the deadline. And I'm not suggesting that those two players should be changed. I just worry about the spirit of the rule, not the enforcement. Like Bob said to me, leaving Eichel off my roster would be an obvious mistake and he would correct it. So where is the line?

<sarcasticjoke>Now, as the lucky bastard who benefited from the Risto mistake I suppose I have to support the side of you losing him, tough s@#$... your loss... pay attention next time. </sarcasticjoke>

So where is the line?

I learned the hard way in one of my other pools that the line has to never bend. I know that goes against the spirit of the pool of just being fun, but the fact is, bigger issues are created by bending the line based on personal calls of the people in charge. Every time you bend, it creates a bigger issue for the future.

I dont know what the best way to deal with things like this is, I just know in one pool Im in, I respect the commish because he takes a hard line with EVERYBODY, including himself, and it creates no issues in the long run, cause everyone has just come to the realization that thats how it goes, lets move on.

(not advocating that has to be the AHL way, just saying I have come to realize a hard line sometimes works well too)

I guess my Vlookup skills suck.

I am fine with leaving Stastny on Chris's team.

However in the past before any of you guys were involved. I lost 2 first rounders because I was short 1 player on my roster. I sucked it up and took it up the a$$

I agree with your point arp. Interpretation is where things start to get difficult. I officially request that stastny be left off my roster. I have enough money to get him back at auction. I may open bidding at 5.25. :)

Frist game of the season

I see that Pkdealers will have to watch while Steelheads hoist their Championship banner on opening night.

Chris, are the pucks used in the games exactly the same as the official NHL pucks you can buy?

Well... sometimes. Inglasco makes the NHL pucks. All the real game pucks say Made In Canada on the side. Souvenir pucks say Made In Slovakia. I've seen both for sale, but 95% of the time, they are souvenir pucks.
