Not really...I've been under the assumption for a decade that anything you say or do online or on a cell phone is tracked and monitored, so finding out I'm definitively correct is pretty anti-climactic. The idea is that consumers only really change their shopping habits a few times in their lives -- the birth of a first child means that people go from hopping between multiple shops and go to one megastore (like Target / wallmart /etc). I believe they were tracking people through the use of loyal cards. More than stopping using tampons but they also noted people going to non-fragranced hand creams and a bunch of other factors. The system got so scary good at predicting that it triggered a maternity coupon pack to a 16-year old girl... Dad flipped out but maned up an apologized a week later when she told him that she had gotten knocked up (!). So after that they started being a little less obvious about their targeting. eg: if the maternity coupons were triggered they would also throw in one for a riding lawn mower or something else irrelevant. Not to get all Godwin on you, but I'm guessing the Jews in the 1930s and Japanese in the early 1900s and Syrians right now and a billion other people weren't doing anything wrong when the goverment having information about them didn't work out so well.
