The Conservative Case For Obamacare

Recommended Posts

If Obamacare is really going to kill the poor, I don't understand why you guys aren't supporting it.

it is going to "kill the poor" because they get hurt worst, they are most vulnerable. They are going to be the first ones to get kicked out to the public plans, they are the ones that aren't going to have the resourses for better, they aren't going to own private businesses to provide insurance when the employer doesn't....

Given the difficulty of dealing with private insurance assholes who are more interested in profiting off you than helping you, I'd say this would make the poor the biggest winners of Obamacare.

I'd go on Medicare right now instead of dealing with assholes from Aetna if I had the option.

"The facts are right there" almost always really means "I don't have any facts."

Almost as accurate as when someone says "clearly" it's never clear.

Obviously you did not read the original post, pretty obvious who is going to get whacked by this mess and more to come.

Couldn't have described Obama better.

I won't argue about assholes from the insurance companies...they are no friends of mine. You, as always, have way more faith in our government to do this well than i do. Historically our government has screwed up virtually everything it has touched and this one i don't expect to be any different. this one i actually think will be worse due the half assed effort and rush to approval, the fact that not even the democrats who voted for it know what it says and the fact it was written by Socialists...other then that what could go wrong?

Medicare is going bankrupt so don't be in a hurry to jump there and we are 15 trillon in debt so i don't know where you expect the funds to come from...the health care system is not going to be able to fund itself so the gap is going to be made up in more taxes or...worse coverage! You are not poor and obviously have resourses so the system will crush others long before it gets to you. Congrats on that!

At the end of it this could be such a massive failure that it could actually make people want the government to get out of their lives...so there is a potential plus. The future for coming generations is bleak...of course there will still be winners and losers it is just going to make life easier for the nasty "rich" people and harder on the poor.

And as always Democrats screw the base but make it smell good! Stupid people.

Conservatives have been against anything Obama since he was elected and looked (with bias) at anything he did. I have asked many, many people over the last 4 years at what their specific complaints were and after looking startled at having to have an actual reason, they spout off the GOP lines, "the deficit, the economy isn't recovering fast enough, and Obamacare".

BG said that he's gonna hate on Obama no matter what, but what happens after Obama gets re-elected and these problems go away? What do you complain about then?

Let's face it, the deficit happened because conservative de-regulation crashed the economy. The crash, the resultant 8.9% drop in GDP, and the increase in unemployment led to the dramatically increased deficit. The attempts to spur the economy were met with unilateral obstructionism by congress. Had the obstructionism not happened we would likely be under 6% unemployment right now.

But despite this, the economy has kept improving, naturally. And now we are starting to see the benefits of Obamacare. The GDP data for the third quarter released last week showed that real spending on health care fell for the second consecutive quarter and that nominal spending grew at just a 0.5 percent annual rate.

The majority of long term deficit crisis has been due to health care. As the article Bob posted states, Obamacare is designed to curb those costs. Liberals wanted more, but what if it works as it is starting to appear? America spends twice what other wealthy countries do on health care (with less results) but if Obamacare works as envisioned, the long term deficit crisis goes away.

If Obama can win and stave off regressive austere actions, and find a way to get his dozens of job bills to spur the economy, then in four years the conservatives will only be left with the real reason they don't like him. He's black.

The deficit happened and continues to happen because we have a massive military, broad entitlement programs, and low tax rates. The deficit is policy, which is only occasionally overtaken by brief periods of extraordinary economic prosperity.

I'm pretty much just a lurker now (thankfully, I know), but I wanted to acknowledge this excellent post. This is the least partisan and most accurate post I can remember reading in this forum.

Fair enough, but we can run a 1 to 2% deficit practically indefinately. Projections for the final year when Bush was in office was to have a surplus within a few short years, despite his reckless spending, up untilt he great recession. So my point is that if as Obama plans or would like to do, controls military spending, Obamacare helps conrol the biggest problem entitlement expenditures, and we actually raise the tax rate back up to sensible levels, and the economy keeps growing, well then the deficit will go away.

What is the complaint with Obama then?

Your Sick!!

From the Des Moines Registar off the record interview...........oops maybe I better release this interview.

Q: Yes, that begs a question from us, Mr. President. Some say you had a super majority in your first two years and had this incredible opportunity, but because of what you were talking about, as you were running, you had to go to get Obamacare done. Do you have any regrets taking on some of the economic issues, some of the issues that we're talking about for your second term, that when you had the chance, so to speak, during your first -- do you have any regrets that you didn’t do that at that time?

THE PRESIDENT: Absolutely not, Laura. Remember the context. First of all, Mitch McConnell has imposed an ironclad filibuster from the first day I was in office. And that's not speculation. I mean, this is -- it’s amply recorded. He gave a speech saying, my task is to defeat the President.
