Union Worker Protests In Wi

Recommended Posts

The highest estimate I've seen for combined spending for Walker was $31M. The unions alone spent almost $18M (and raised $21M. That doesn't count Barret's spending and all the other spending on the Dem side from out of state. Walker's total does.
Did you use your special libertarian filter? I have no idea who spent what but this took ten seconds to find: http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2012/06/04/us/politics/money-spent-on-wisconsin-recall-election.html

Does someone have something definitive? I've read anywhere between 3.5 to 1 and 15 to 1 in the last ten minutes of searching.
The Wisconsin recall's big money The failed effort to unseat Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker ® in a recall election Tuesday ranks as the most expensive political contest in state history, with more than $63 million spent by candidates and groups on both sides. Walker outspent rival Tom Barrett by more than 7-to-1, although independent liberal groups helped narrow that gap to about 2-to-1http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2012/06/06/gJQAKAyiJV_graphic.html

I knew that's why Obama should have an asterisk next to his win. If you spend more money then you shouldn't 'really' win.It sure helps that all those Wisconsin voters who wanted to vote out Walker could be bought by commercials. If only there weren't so many commercials then Walker would have been kicked out! Dang those young kids and their dog!The real question is why did the national democrat party drop Wisconsin? There is a reason why Walker had more money to spend.

Actions speak louder than words. Especially when the words are random biased editorial crap (on both sides). The R's obviously saw the recall as a critical step in the national race, the D's did not. Guess we'll see who's right in a few months.

The democrats thought this was a huge deal after he started going through with his promises to take on the unions. So did Occupy and the national unions. Then when it was found to be a losing deal, everyone on the left is acting like they never really cared.A republican governor just took collective bargaining rights away from public service unions in his state. Every state's governor saw this and is now considering this.At least the ones that put their state ahead of the unions.

Wait. Are you now saying that the media is in the tank for the Republicans? Please verify.

The D's thought it was a huge deal for the national race until they fell behind; then they decided it's just one governor in one state.Someone has compiled a hilarious serious of clips of this progression on YouTube, but I'm too lazy to find it right now. Even going into the night of the election MSNBC was calling it a mandate on November and a test for the mood of the country. Just a few hours later they were busily explaining why it was not an important election.

What? How could you possibly get that from my post? I implied that the media on BOTH SIDES was biased.

Yes, clearly they thought it was a huge deal, as evidenced by how much they didn't spend.

Well, if MSNBC said it, it must be true.Actions speak louder than words. How much was spent out-of-state by Dems vs R's? That's how important each of them thought it was nationally.

Some of that was funny. I laughed out loud when he told everyone making over $100k to leave...and there were only 3 people left. The rest of it just mad me sad for Americans. If I lived in the US, I don't think I'd have any choice but to be a libertarian. Not because libertarians are right, but because the state of politics and political discourse is so awful and beyond repair that my only hope would be to support anyone who would make it less a part of my life.

I wasn't trying to make you bite, I just thought it was obvious.

Walker just went through a recall. He ended up with more votes than the first time, by a lot. The OVERWHELMING reason given by people on the ground here is WI is because of the union situation. If a random liberal judge throws it out, it's just going to solidify everyone even more. I mean, there is almost no way that WI is going Obama anyway, because everyone up here seems to like Paul Ryan (I see his name on signs all over the place and I don't even know the name of the person running against him*). But this will bring out the Walker and Ryan people in full force as a '**** you' to that judge.

*He's concurrently running for Congress and VP. I'm talking Congressionally. I know he's running against Obama in the national race.

I mean he still got what, 53% of the recall vote? Won't this equally motivate the 930,000 people who signed the recall petition? The numbers aren't overwhelming enough either way to make it obvious.

Your biased reasoning is kinda obvious since you assign Obama little chance of winning a state he has led in the polls wire to wire and won handily in 2008.

In his previous race he won by 5.8%, in the recall he won by 7%. That's a lot of votes, considering 2.5 million people voted.

As you know it doesn't matter what happened in 2008, especially since the VP candidate is a sitting congressman from the state.

Sure. $20?

Full disclosure, Nate Silver has Obama as a 83% favorite to win Wisconsin.

Then you should give me odds!

$20 straight up if you want it.

Sounds good. (This is for just WI, not the entire election)
