dEv~ 19
Baby Pens force a game 7 tomorrow night. Winner will face the winner of Sundays game 7 between Norfolk and Connecticut.Yeah I had surgery today to remove the hardware in my ankle today so this weekend will proably be spent watching streams of this kind of stuff online. For anyone that cares/remembers I broke my fibula/ankle in mid December. Had surgery to add hardware to stabilize by ankle. Started rehab about 2 months later. Was done with crutchs a month after that. Been without a walking boot for the past month and graduated from rehab a couple weeks ago. Originally they planned to take out the hardware later in the summer/fall but I guess I've progressed enough to talk them out before they broke.Anyway I'm not back in the boot and on crutches for a couple weeks while this heals. Hopefully I'll be free of everything after getting the stitches taken out in during my next doctor's appointment. I was walking pretty good before surgery and after surgery I'm hoping to start pushing towards running again. I doubt I'll be back to hockey until later in the year but hopefully in the meantime I can golf, play softball, volleyball, etc.
digitalmonkey 929
The Fourth Period: ESPN Chicago is reporting that the Blackhawks Dave Bolland may be interesting trade bait to upgrade their roster. He’s an excellent two-way, 3rd line center that may help fetch a 2nd line center. They could take a look at Penguins Jordan Staal. It would obviously take more than just Bolland to land Staal, possibly Brandon Saad and 1 or 2 first round pick. The Penguins may also look at Nick Leddy or Niklas Hjalmarsson. Yeah...here's what started those rumors. http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/blackhawks/post/_/id/4671107/hawks-could-improve-by-dealing-bollandDon't think it's much more than just some guy writing an article about an idea he had. Personally I'd like to just keep Staal. Salary cap might force them to choose 2 of the 3 top centers and in that case Crosby and Malkin stay and Staal can start packing. I'd take this trade in a heartbeat though. Bolland is a beast, Saad is a legit prospect, and a 1st or 2nd rounder for a guy with only 1 year left on his contract seems like quite a return. I just have a hard time believing this would happen unless Chicago are sure they can sign him long term.,
serge 904
I think the Penguins are officially able to extend Crosby after July 1?What is the rumours?
Zach6668 513
Doubt they do anything before the new CBA is figured out, regarding Crosby.I also don't want Staal moved. People are just bored and making up things to write/whine about.

Crosby (despite his injury history) will and should get whatever he wants.

digitalmonkey 929
I believe trading is permitted once the regular season ends.Edit: actually trading is allowed at any time but players traded after the trade deadline are ineligible for the playoffs.
Zach6668 513
I think this is pretty awesome.Fleury could use someone to push him, and also to keep him fresh by taking some of his workload.Decent deal too.
MapleLeafpoker 1,462
IF, I say IF, Jordan Staal was to be dealt to Carolina, what do you think would be a fair return, and something the Pens could use? What if he went to Toronto? What would be fair there?I think Carolina is going hard for him, but Im not sure thats the wise move for the Canes, or who they could trade to Pittsburgh.I think Staal would fit well in Toronto. ajs510 122
I've heard a lot of rumors flying around about Staal possibly getting traded to Buffalo at the deadline, but I'm not sure how I feel about that. On the one hand, he's an outstanding defensive forward...easily the best Buffalo would have had since Michael Peca. He's a big kid with scoring ability who can chew up lots of minutes on both ends of the ice. On the other hand, he's not really a true #1 center so that job would fall to Hodgson or Roy, depending on who is still in town if/when the deal got done. Improves the team, but doesn't exactly solve the glaring issue that Buffalo needs a true, #1, high-scoring center for Vanek and Pominville.
Zach6668 513
I really don't see him being traded, but it would take quite a bit to get him.
mrdannyg 274
I don't see why he wouldn't be a true #1 centre, just because he wasn't in Pittsburgh. Put him with a couple scoring wingers, and he's a fantastic #1.Was just reading today about how Staal is 'driving the bus', and that makes sense. It makes sense for Staal, the Penguins, and potential trading partners to put Staal somewhere he's willing to sign an extension. Assuming the team getting him has confidence he'll sign long-term, he would be worth an awful lot.
Zach6668 513
According to one Tweet, Evgeni Malkin is just the 5th player to win the Art Ross, Pearson/Lindsay, Hart, Conn Smythe, Stanley Cup, and just the 3rd to do all of those and win the Calder at some point in his career. The others were Gretzky, Lafleur, Lemieux, and Orr. The latter two both won the Calder, as well.
digitalmonkey 929
I think Staal will finish out the remaining year on his contract and then sign with Carolina as a UFA. The Penguins will either trade him or lose him for nothing.
dEv~ 19
I think Staal will finish out the remaining year on his contract and then sign with Carolina as a UFA. The Penguins will either trade him or lose him for nothing.Oops....but yes those we basically the only two things that could have happend.I hope these guys pan out. I was a bigger Staal fan than most but after you reportedly turn down an 10 year 60 mil offer I don't see how they could have kept him. My best guess is that he signs something around 5 years 7 per.Arp, any scouting reports on the guys we got?Now Shero has also traded Michalek to PHX for Harrison Ruopp, Marc Chevirie (goalie who grew up with Sid), and a 3rd rounder. Pens have cleared up 6 million in cap space today. Rumors are flying Pens are now in the mix for Parise or some other big names.
Zach6668 513
There's no way the Michalek trade wasn't a pre-cursor to SOMETHING. No reason to worsen our already pretty terrible defense by trading our best defensive d-man. Also, we got nothing for him.Really thought Yandle would be coming back in that. Also, wtf is with our prospect depth at D?Despres, Morrow, Harrington, Dumoulin, Maatta, Pouliot, Bortuzzo, Samuelsson, Sneep, Strait...
Zach6668 513
I mean, obviously I'll have to wait until July 2nd or so to fully comprehend, but the Michalek trade is so weird. Leaves us with 3 actual NHL d-men, Letang, Orpik, Martin. I think Niskanen probably re-signs (RFA), and Despres is arguably ready for a top 6 spot, but we're stuck again with Lovejoy and Engellend sharing the number 6 spot. Maybe Morrow challenges for a spot? I guess they're going to try to add Suter or something, then I'll be happier.I guess I'm ok if our bottom pairing is like Despres/Martin, with Letang/Oprik, Niskanen/Suter(?) as our top 6, then it makes sense, with mediocre Lovejoy and Engellend as injury insurance.
