If you are paying $20 for a haircut, I imagine people assume you did it yourself anyway.

and after 3 days, he is risen!

Pocket change cost me my first and only black girlfriend.   It was in the middle of a roaring poker boom and I was flush in ways most men don't even bother dreaming of. Money, it was like dirt to me

First thought: Why is the paper reporting on your life?
That's still the only thing I'm getting from reading that.

I eat fiber one bars buddy. And other stuff. Not sure what's sticky
probably the other stuff
my bank doesn't do all of that except through one investments guy, who straight up told me his annual pay, and it's a fucking joke (sub-50) for the time commitment (4 years to train under him, when he retires). I don't mind talking to random people and could probably function as a loan officer. I don't know if you've noticed this about me, but I am articulate enough to make common folk think I'm a smart person. suckersnone of this is an optimal fit for me, of course. I'm a problem-solver, not a back-slapper. sales is for the birds.
sure, articulate, but promise me you'll at least define the object of your statements when talking to people in real life, ok? they're not going to be able to know that you're referencing an article in the november issue of fortune that had something to do with a day9 recording.man, fucking apartments are expensive. I spent some time yesterday looking at apartment prices and figuring out what it would cost to furnish one and what my monthly payments would look like, and it looks like I might be able to afford one in 10 years. I mean part of the blame can go to my car payment, but I put so much down on that that my payment is actually really low, especially for a new car (350), so it's not like I shouldn't really be able to afford both. but I did the math, and with my current bills and with estimating lower monthly misc. spending (i.e. freaking food), I'm still like 200 bucks short a month. and the best part is, even if I get the promotion that I should be getting soon (read: probably won't) and the maximum allowed salary increase with it, I'm still 50 short. and I know what you're gonna say ocho/brv, but the suit/shirt budget came out of the misc. spending category and I'm even budgeting for not spending any more on them either (which would be HORRIBLE) so the fixed cost gap would still be the same.

I don't believe I know how to take that so I'll just pretend that you said I remind you of george clooney. you know what's funny, is that everybody here has basically been saying I'm crazy for not actively trying to find a better paying job, but I talked to my mom a few days ago and mentioned the situation, including the variance between my current salary and market rates for my job, and she was like whoooah, don't be so quick to leave a job you like just because of the money. of course she also said she'd have a hard time voting for romney because of his religion, but at least he wasn't a "damn muslim like that obama" so there's that.

My impression has always been that you didn't really like the job due to the piling on of responsibilities. I am in a somewhat similar situation (underpaid, added responsibility, but I can afford an apartment), and only recently have I considered looking elsewhere because of the work environment changing to something I don't enjoy.Does that make Gingrich Mormon?

nah I mean I like the job, and the additional responsibilities are actually fine, it's just that the additional responsibilities make it a higher level job but they're still paying me like a customer service rep.

Yes, there is something to be said for enjoying your job, but there's also something to said for being able to afford an apartment on your own at 30. That's all I'm saying. However, I've pretty much convinced myself if I don't get a job in public accounting I'm never going to be able to look myself in the mirror with any kind of dignity, but I've also convinced myself I have no chance at getting a job doing that and am currently freaking the f out. I am so insanely jealous of my friends in busy season right now, that for the past few nights I've had terrible dreams about going back home and having everybody I know laugh at me and call me a failure. So I'm pretty much a crazy person myself and should not be listened to.

i think it's obvious that shakey will continue to do a baller ass work at his currect job, while quietly looking for better money elsewhere. any employer who would hold that against you is being unreasonable (and therefore subject to possible raping if a hot chick/confused young man), and at that point you'll have even more justification for moving on.and napa, it's tough out there bro. my father already told me if i dont have a job by october i have to move back home. so yeah.

Have you guys heard of this "controversy" about Bruins goalie Tim Thomas not going to the White House?Every team after winning a championship gets to go to the White House and meet the President. Thomas is a Tea Party guy and has no interest in meeting this President. Do you think this is an acceptable protest or should he respect the office and go regardless of political beliefs?

Don't you own a house?
roof? bathroom floor caving in? etc etc etc? yeah, I mean I own it, but at this point the cost/benefit of fixing what needs to be fixed in order to make it liveable doesn't really make sense considering location, condition, my desire to not have to fix shit all the time, I could go on. but I don't seem to have much of a choice now anyways so whatevs. and just because I'm incredibly stupid doesn't mean I don't exist.

If you're a problem solver, get out of banking. Everyone here just causes me problems. I'm the solver, yet that doesn't pay and sales goals suffer because I'm busy doing that and I no longer care to try and be successful. My time here is coming to an end. Why spin the wheels all day at something I absolutely loathe? Starting to feel like a wasted life. Sadly, I have a car payment that is crazy expensive for another year (then its just normal expensive) so I feel like a slave to this crappy paycheck. It is a sweet ass car though. I got sidetracked there, $50k for an investment guy seems low. Sales is all that pays these days. Nobody cares about the efficient, operationally sound guy. Selling makes me anxious. Hate it

maybeGet a damn roommate. It can suck but hey, half the bills makes up for it. Then you kill time until a special lady is worth moving in with, then SHE pays half the bills. DuhI need to contribute some talking points here. All I'm doing is commenting. I'll work on thatI do love women. All types. Give me a ginger with some glasses and she could be missing a leg and it wouldn't matter. Variety is king, I don't care what these monogamy fools tell you. Would you rather spend all of your 30's with one cool, hot (8) girl or a seemingly endless supply of 5's? I take the 5's. Debate.

Our new thing in here should be not talking about politics.
I didn't really want this to be about politics. But I think it's interesting that some people think athletes should use their platform for something other than selling shoes, but when they do speak out (and it's against our personal ideals) the response is "shut up, you play a GAME."We applaud Muhammed Ali for taking a stand (well, we do now anyway), but we make fun of someone like Tim Robbins. Ok, maybe that's not the best comparison, but you see what I'm getting at. We have no consistency with this. We want celebrities to speak up only if we agree with what they're saying.

I also spent years in business thinking I should be a "big picture" guy who just sits in a room, comes up with ideas, and tells people to run with them.
Shake, I doubt you're real.
To be fair, you're probably not real either.

Yeah, that's a reasonable point. Assuming it's a one or the other choice, would you rather stay where you are or make an additional $20k and be mostly miserable for 50 hours a week?
However, I've pretty much convinced myself if I don't get a job in public accounting I'm never going to be able to look myself in the mirror with any kind of dignity.
Public accounting: the key to happiness.

I think that you should respect the gesture. The president honoring you is a symbol of the country honoring you (which is a bit silly for professional sports, but that's beside the point).

Yeah, women are nice. What happens at 40? Do I have to start over or is there a chance the 8 sticks around?

right now I'd take one 5 reallyand speedz, I'd choose to make less and (moderately) enjoy my job. but that's a false dilemma, no? I know you didn't mean it that way but I wanted to point it out anyway. edit: and apparently you identified that it was a false dilemma in your post and I just didn't see that.

Get a damn roommate.
First reaction: he's 30.Second reaction: I like it. It'll also get him out there more to STUFF...something.
But I think it's interesting that some people think athletes should use their platform for something other than selling shoes, but when they do speak out (and it's against our personal ideals) the response is "shut up, you play a GAME."
I haven't really seen that reaction. His mostly non-partisan comment was pretty reasonable. Even democrats can't argue with the fact that things are still screwy out there.
