I will say that I am not a fantasy reader but was told I had to read these books and I absolutely loooooved them. If all fantasy was like this then I would read it but it's not.

OMG you geeks. We like Game of Thrones, that doesn't mean you have immunity. No one cares about your faggot fantasy books. If HBO spends $100 mil making it a tv show, I'll give it a go. Otherwise, gtf

If SA's goal was to make the continued topic of conversation in this thread so insufferable that I almost don't care what he spoils anymore, his law degree just paid off.

no, i can actually read.

I do believe I will read the books and, despite my comments, there is no question: I will be watching this series. The fantasy genre is one of my favorites, although I have not really immersed myself in anything over the past few years. That being said, I do love tits and dire wolves and courtly intrigue...What self-respecting fantasy series DOESN'T have those?

OK, I watched it. Pretty good. I am about as far in the book as this EP went. I am going on vacation the end of the week and hope to finish the book, then I can actually watch the rest of the show.

book and show spoiler regarding the Dothraki and their raping ways:

In the book it is a little more consensual, Khal Drogo is pretty gentle although Daenarys is resistant at first... then she starts enjoying it. If I remember correctly the way George RR Martin writes her as yelling NO NO NO no no yes yes YES YES. The Dothraki do rape chicks all the time though which is a part of their custom, and the chicks know they are going to get raped all the time so they kind of just let it happen

Just finished watching and I approve of the treatment. So far the show seems to respect the source material and they've done an admirable job of condensing a massive work without leaving out the seminal events.

sweetGameofThronesIt's official. @HBO has renewed Game of Thrones for a second season. #gameofthrones
Really? I though it would be one of those epic one-off things, but this is good news for fantasy fans. Now they don't have to rush plots and leave gaping holes in the narrative.

You have no idea what you're talking about.

Edited: FTR, you tend to be a dick to me. I'll assume this is something standard. If this is supposed to be humourous, you failed miserably.

Yes, I do, and for good reason. You really don't know anything about the books or the show, aside from the lone hour of your life that you spent watching it. Why would HBO spend tens of millions of dollars for an "epic one-off" thing? There's another 2700 pages of story to go on after the first book, with another 1000 coming out in July. And the whole first season has already been shot, so regardless of whether or not the second season got picked up, there weren't going to any more or any less "rushing of plots" or "gaping holes" as a result of the show getting picked up. Again, you have no idea what the fuck you're talking about.

2nd episode was great! The only character seeming out of place is Cersei. In the book she is a super bitch with tons of emotion. In the show she is a bitch, but pretty emotionless

Great two shows!Since I haven't read the books it's hard to keep track of the characters but

Where did the kid's Mom go to discuss her idea that someone is trying to kill her son? It seems that the King, her husband and everyone are all together when they were all discussing the wussy prince's argument that he had been ambushed?
