Some Harry Potter pervert mentioned I should stop by here...Guess I'll spoiler this to not ruin anything for anyone who hasn't read the books or is waiting on the show.In regard to the end of Storm of Swords,

I just don't have the problem with it you do. You have to know based on the first book that Martin has no problem offing main characters. I'm not sure why you think that will drag out the series. There are a few things that play into why books 4 & 5 have taken so long (based off his blog and reports I've read from his appearances). Originally there was supposed to be a 5 year gap between the end of Storm of Swords and the 4th book, but after writing a good portion of it that way he decided it left too many questions about the events he would have to tell via flashback, so why not just write that part of the story. Then came the issue with size of the 4th book and the decision by his publishers to split it. The thing I didn't like is aside from one or two characters, most my favorites were moved to the 5th book. I haven't read Feast for a while, but some of the new viewpoints I enjoyed and I get why they were introduced. Some characters POV's are going to make for a more interesting version of events than an existing character would have. The big hang up with book 5 has been him having to explain a few events in detail that he had an outline for but had not fleshed out. There are two that he has posted about that have caused a ton of problems, though I read a report that his publisher was recently saying he was very close to having book 5 done and they are expecting to have it out by April in the US. He is still saying only two more books to complete the series after Dance with Dragons. Every fan of the series is worries about him pulling a Robert Jordan, but that's the risk apparently. Hopefully seeing his series get made into a HBO series will enspire him to stop watching Jets games and get it done.

P.S. WOT sucks.

Because instead of drawing the series towards some sort of conclusion, the events at the end of book 3 just open it up for the dozen new plot lines, that have started in book four and presumably book 5. I have no problem with killing characters I like. I do have a problem with building a series up through three long books, and then completely hanging a left turn at the end of book 3.. it's like the series has started over again.

OMG you geeks. We like Game of Thrones, that doesn't mean you have immunity. No one cares about your faggot fantasy books. If HBO spends $100 mil making it a tv show, I'll give it a go. Otherwise, gtf

If SA's goal was to make the continued topic of conversation in this thread so insufferable that I almost don't care what he spoils anymore, his law degree just paid off.

no, i can actually read.

To be honest, I was really confused at the beginning of book 4. At first I thought I bought a George RR Martin book but not of the Song of Ice and Fire series because I was confused with all the new characters being introduced. I got used to it though and enjoyed it.

So HBO has sent out like 80 of these little marketing boxes, Box_01.jpgThey have a 6 vials of scents in them, everything looks handmade, and you mix the 3 of the scents together to get a scent for King's Landing and the other 3 for Winterfell. There's some scrolls with instructions and backstory on them. This guy is a bit of a tool, but he goes through the process of opening of the box up and records it all, and gives his reaction to all the stuff.Pretty cool idea for marketing.http://jchutchins.net/site/2011/02/25/wint...ience-with-j-c/

5 new clips posted from the first episodeLast I checked Metacritic it was up to 18 reviews, 15 good 3 bad. The 3 bad ones were mostly ripping on the fantasy stereotypes, the one from the NY times I read sounded like they didn't even watch it.
The NYT one was really absurd. I forgot Soprano's didn't do violence, sex, or nudity, and only fantasy D&D geeks could ever like a show that doesn't take place in a real time period or place but has all those things. The show obviously won't be for everyone, but to waste all those words when the only message is "too much blood and sex for me" is a waste of NYT space. Also, she rips the fact that the Dothraki have their own language and subtitles, and that it's stupid because it's a fake language. Maybe she is fluent in most languages and never needs subtitles, but I sure as fuck do for anything other than English.

Trouble is is that I am staying at my moms house while she is in the hospital and she doesn't have HBO. I think I am just going to drive home tonight and watch it and then go back to my moms. I am too stoked for this.

Pretty well done. Some details are missed from the book obviously, but they touched on all the important stuff and cast is great (Jamie being better than I thought he would be when I saw who they cast) and the settings are awesome. I'm already worried that 10 episodes just isn't going to cut it. I guess it depends on where they stop the first season in the story though. For those that had trouble keeping track of who is who...HBO Game of Thrones Guide It's spoiler free, but shows a lot of people that have not been introduced yet.

My guess will be that fastpasstv.com will hook you up
ty! it worked.I really liked it. I hope enough people watch it so it doesn't get cancelled. All the characters seemed to be casted well aside from Cat looking like a grandma.I know he was in it for about 5 seconds, but how sick was The Hound's costume!Favorite character's: Tyrion (they should have made him look uglier though) and Daenarys for obvious reasons. How hot is she!

Not sure what your mom's issue(s) is/are, but all the best...Watched the 1st Ep last night and, although I have seen and read so many fantasy stories and am very cynical about content (ie: Dire wolves? Again? A mysterious malevolent warrior army? Again? Another savage warrior race who likes raping women during parties? Again? A trusted advisor dies suddenly and someone suspects murder? Again?), it's still a pleasure to watch something with some awesome production values. Man, they sure spent a pissload of money on this...Sean Bean is excellent, as always, and there is lots more to enjoy...Loved/hated the end of the episode, but a catalyst is clearly required.

Was able to watch it and enjoyed it a lot. They changed somethings around and added a scene or two but it worked to get the story across and that is all I really cared about.Merc: thanks, she had a hip replacement and all is well.

You have read a lot of fantasy, but not these books? I know it has been said a ton on this forum, but please read the books. This is by far my favorite fantasy series.I see what you are saying in your post. Try to give things awhile to develop and it will set itself apart from other fantasy stories imo. There are a lot of characters who have not been introduced and a lot of the minor characters who were introduced become a lot more epic. It was just an introductory episode and if they are going to do with the series what I think they will, it is going to be extremely entertaining.
