The friggen card is almost a full centimeter thick too, lol. It's really cool to look at, though.Can you tell if a pack is going to contain such a card before you open it? By weight, feel, thickness etc..?Usually the packs either contain fewer cards if they have a patch, or there is a 'filler' in every pack that is the same size and weight of the patch cards. I also really like that Sittler/McDonald combo.I have been in the business for 2 years and have seen my fair share of bad dealings among card dealers. They tend to put in filler cards to make you think you make have a patch card instead. They never put in a filler and patch card together. Now in this years Cup if you get a filler, than you have your case hit (best card out of the case). Now I do not condone patch searching but yes there is a way you can tell if it contains the filler or a real patch card. You can even tell which packs contain the autos. I don't practice these things since it is wrong and we would not be in business anymore. In fact, a kid pulled a Crosby Autograph card out of one of my boxes and nearly died. It caused quite a scene. He sold the card latter for $600.I was also partnered up with a guy at the May 2009 Expo who (without my knowledge) was selling fake patch cards. He would take a ugly patch card and put in a really nice patch and then sell the card for about 3-5 times more than what he brought it for. Needless to say he is now not in the card business. You're definitely not just busting packs, right? That is generally -EV, right? I do fondly remember the thrill of opening a fresh pack of cards though.considering what Babying said, I'd be wary of buying any individual packs of cards, if I knew there was a chance they were already "filtered" for the valuable patch cards. If it says you'll get 3 memorabilia cards, 99% of the time, that's what you'll get. The only concern with buying boxes is if the seller knows that the case cards (rare inserts at 1 per case) are out already from a given case, but I don't really think that's a serious issue. Even boxes since most (not all) guys find the case hits and sell the rest on Ebay. I personally don't and will never do that. I do sell boxes on Ebay when those cheap guys at the shows don't want to buy them. So to clear stock I do sell boxes occasionally on Ebay. I even had a guy pull a Ovy/Malkin dual auto and a Malkin auto. Needless to say he was pumped.Another place that would never pack search is your local area cardshop. They would be out of business if that ever happened.On a side note, I did purchase an Ovy signed jersey (fake jersey) with COA at the Expo. I could have told you ever card in each pack from the box by opening 1 pack of cards.On a side note, I remember when OPC came out in 1990. Federov's rookie card was always on the back of the pack. I drove around my neighbourhood and got all of the Federovs at 50 cents each (got 100). I used to buy cards for fun as a kid, and for throwing around in games to try and win others' cards. (Im sure I threw Gretzky's rookie cards at walls trying to knock down other cards)Then, I got into the money angle a bit later on, and I recall in 89-90 Score having a set that was very popular/easy to find at a time when collecting was pretty popular, but then everyone realized there were sooo many made, they were worthless. I think I have like 300 of that year, and probably gave away at least that many and more to family in years past. When I get a chance this weekend, I might take a look at what I still have. Mine is the classic tale you must hear from everyone of "My mom threw out all my Gretzky+Lemieux" rookie cards.
