a nice fish story

Recommended Posts

I was playing 3/6 on Party last night when I was watching a super fish at work. This poor fellow was just bleeding chips and there was no bandages in sight. He had a stunningly easy pattern to read and I watched him for about 40 hands just shaking my head. He was seeing about 80% of the flops, calling any or all flop bets and making his decision to fold or play on the turn. If he got to the turn and had so much as a pair he would call down to the river. It looked like it was a good day for him - he was getting a nice share of wins with his pairs, miracle flushes and straights, so the money wasn't pouring out but it was it was an goldmine that just needed working.Soon enough a hand came up where I had KQs in the cutoff and he was the only limper so I raised, trying to get heads up. It was a tight enough table and the raise worked, it was just the 2 of us.The flop came AK3 rainbow and he checked. I bet, he called. His call meant nothing here so I was happy. The next card was another 3. He checked, I bet, he called. Oops. From everything I'd seen this meant he had a piece of the flop, which also meant the best I could do here was split - grrrrr bloody fish, betcha he's got A2 and going to take this down etc etc...The river came as a nice surpise, a King! I actually managed to suck out on a fish!!! woo hoo!!Sure enough, he checked, I bet, he called and showed down A6o. I took the pot and patted myself on the back - me fish-slayer; me good :)I felt a bit guilty though and so typed 'sry' into the chat.He replied 'Why?''u were winning - I got lucky''ok no problems, it happens''thanks for taking it so well : )''yeah not like some of the aholes here'Then the penny dropped - obviously this guy had no skill and was just playing for fun. Great, the more the merrier I say!So I put in a big effort with this guy, I chatted away when ever I got a chance, 'Where you from? Been playing long?' all those sort of things and I found myself really enjoying it.When he managed a miracle draw against me I congratulated him. 'nh, well played' etcHell, I even defended him when he pulled a couple of incredble long shots against other players and started copping abuse. 'You play your way and let him play his', and when his antagonisers lost a pot to me... 'B!tch about those cards fool'The end result - this guy cashed back in twice and stuck around for almost 3 hours. Then he had to go 'cause his dinner was getting cold :)I made sure he added me to his buddy list and wished him well. After a while I thought about it; I really enjoyed the game - having a 'friend' there made a big difference. I also took a small fortune off this guy, and laughed - yes laughed when he hit me with bad beats, and so never was in any danger of tilting. All in all it was the biggest non-monetary win I've ever made. This guy plays for fun, knowing he's going to lose over time - he doesn't care, says he can afford it. Now when he logs on, hopefully he'll look me up (I know I'll be chasing him :D) and I will always be happy to have him at my table. With me backing him up against abuse, and encouraging his fishy behaviour, he's going to enjoy the game and hang around a lot longer, donating his bankroll to the greater good.I highly recommend you give this a go. Your enjoyment of the game and your bankroll will only increase!!What's more, I think a lot of the agro and abuse could leave the game, which will only encourage the fish to stick around.Befriend a fish todayActually - I'm going to make that my signature....

Here's a helpful hint...it's an old post if someone says I was playing on Party Poker today
But then you have to actually read the post instead of just looking at the title. I'm trying to save you time!

But aren't some old threads worthy of reading again? In fact the only way your posts make any sense is if you assume that all old posts are not as sophisticated as today's younger fresh posts.Well I beg to differ.First the old posts have a nostalgic flair to them that adds about 4 basis points to their value.Second old threads have an innocence that gives them another 2-5 basis points. I mean who among us doesn't like to see a thread about the folding aces before the flop when we all now know that there are a few cases where this is mathmatically wrong, but long term EV plus to our tournament life if and only if we have a +20 skill level rating on sharkpolls.net?Third new threads have a cynicism undertone that leaves you wondering why you spend so much time online when the girls offline seem to be so much more abundant. A solid 3-7 basis point drop if you ask me in real life my opinion.and lastly unless you have rated and scored every thread/post on here than I think you are taking poetic license to degrade threads that I bet you haven't even read yet. How does that make your opinion abut the oldness of a thread and it's value in internetese levels of value-ness any more ...valueable than anyone elses? So until you figure out the correct levels of scoring all threads, put this algorithm to work on all the threads on FCP, and then show your results in a snappy brackets style pie chart, I think maybe you should just stop trying to tell us what to do.

Certainly.
In fact the only way your posts make any sense is if you assume that all old posts are not as sophisticated as today's younger fresh posts.Well I beg to differ.
That's because you just don't get it. You're assuming that I'm trying to steer people away from older threads. That's not the case at all. What I'm offering is a way to get readers into the right mind set before embarking on the thread journey. I'm giving people context.
First the old posts have a nostalgic flair to them that adds about 4 basis points to their value.
I think 4 points might be a little high. It's only nostalgic to those that were here when it happened. My scoring system takes into consideration everyone's perception of the post (except stupid people). So maybe you get a bump because of the nostalgia factor and maybe a bump for offering a window to the past for the newer posters, but it's not an automatic bump. You still have to consider the inherent worth of the post itself.
Second old threads have an innocence that gives them another 2-5 basis points. I mean who among us doesn't like to see a thread about the folding aces before the flop when we all now know that there are a few cases where this is mathmatically wrong, but long term EV plus to our tournament life if and only if we have a +20 skill level rating on sharkpolls.net?
What you call innocence, some call shame and embarrassment. So 2-5 points might be too low.
Third new threads have a cynicism undertone that leaves you wondering why you spend so much time online when the girls offline seem to be so much more abundant. A solid 3-7 basis point drop if you ask me in real life my opinion.
But girls online are more likely to talk to you. I'm not going to give you a point drop just because something is new. That doesn't make any sense. It must be scored according to merit.
and lastly unless you have rated and scored every thread/post on here than I think you are taking poetic license to degrade threads that I bet you haven't even read yet. How does that make your opinion abut the oldness of a thread and it's value in internetese levels of value-ness any more ...valueable than anyone elses?
Again, this all comes from you starting with the wrong assumption.
So until you figure out the correct levels of scoring all threads, put this algorithm to work on all the threads on FCP, and then show your results in a snappy brackets style pie chart, I think maybe you should just stop trying to tell us what to do.
I don't even know what a brackets style pie chart is.And please don't ask me to start scoring everything. I've got my hands full just with off-topic.

Certainly.
Indubitably
That's because you just don't get it. You're assuming that I'm trying to steer people away from older threads. That's not the case at all. What I'm offering is a way to get readers into the right mind set before embarking on the thread journey. I'm giving people context.
I apologize, I was unaware you were elected the tour guide de jour for the interweb. I guess voting for Algore in 2008 gave you an inside track on this prestigious position.
First..cutting out 2/5ths of the readersship of fcp just to make your scoring system easier to chart is disinge, disengine, wrongful.Third..inherent worth of the post???? Where did these posts get their inheritance? From a gestation box in the closet? No, they could not be inheritant to value on their own, this value had to come from an outside source. To pretend that they gained their value on their own is circular reasoning that I won't stand for.
What you call innocence, some call shame and embarrassment. So 2-5 points might be too low.
And what you call sense, some call not sense.
But girls online are more likely to talk to you. I'm not going to give you a point drop just because something is new. That doesn't make any sense. It must be scored according to merit.
Ha: when 30-40% of the 'girls' you talk to are vbnautalis
Again, this all comes from you starting with the wrong assumption.
And you ending with the wrong conclusions
I don't even know what a brackets style pie chart is.
So much for 'official' scorerer
And please don't ask me to start scoring everything. I've got my hands full just with off-topic.
You have 'scored' 3/4ths of my last posts, while dictating like Mussolini on ciprofloaxin what I did wrong in assuming I knew what I was talking about with regards to scoring, and then admit you don't even know the basic form of inteweb scoring reference data value system charting..AND then you have the nerve to coyly* say: "Oh but please don't ask me to score everything", well mister that is exactly what I am not going to not ask you!* Should it turn out that this is not a word, than I would like someone to submit this word to the web internet dictionary thing and give me most of the credit, because it is a really good word.

Nevermind. It is a word;

Adv. 1. coyly - in a coy manner; "she pouted and looked at him coyly"
I am glad it is a word, even though I probably will not get the credit I deserve for it's resurgance.
