Faith is worthless if given concrete proof.
it's worthless either way, which is easily demonstrated by the fact that it leads people toaccept differing mutually exclusive beliefs.

Yeah, I'm familiar with math and probability. It's how I make my living. I realize that its far from concrete proof. I don't need concrete proof. Faith is worthless if given concrete proof. I said I choose to give God the credit. We all have a choice. If we didn't have a choice...then well...whats the point? Right?
which is exactly why faith is such a dangerous thing.

It's not dangerous, it's completely necessary. There is no concrete proof either way, and there never will be.I'm not sure if I made my point clearly though. If God floated down from heaven and landed in Times Square and gave us proof of his existence, then our devotion to him is meaningless. We would have no choice but to follow his orders and live as he wishes. There is a reason that we do not have proof. It is so that we are allowed to make a conscious decision, one that makes our faith (or lack of faith) meaningful. I'm not trying to convince anyone to believe what I believe; but to for anybody to call himself an atheist and then close the subject in their own mind to any further debate is not wise, imo. If you're an atheist simply because there is no proof, then you're missing the point.

I don't intend to be rude by saying this, but this is the most insidious mind-virus that religion has ever invented. You are even better if you believe something without evidence.

I guess I'll take that as a compliment, since I came up with it myself. lol I guess maaaybe it could have been a point that has been made before, but its not one that I had personally heard or read or anything like that. I'm far from religious. I don't read the bible and I very rarely go to church (once or twice a year when I'm dragged there). I love science more than anybody I personally know. I just think its best to err on the side of caution. And I think there's plenty of evidence, just no proof. You should let the virus into your mind.

You're kidding right?Just about everything you say you base your "beliefs" upon is an affront to critical thought.

He not only admitted that a few posts back, but he said his beliefs SHOULD be an affront to critical thought. I think you probably need to just step away from the car at this point.

i could list a million things you don't believe in because there is no proof. why does god get a different set of rules than you apply to everything else?

This is easily my very favorite argument in favor of theism. I actually speak to God on a regular basis and occasionally give him a list of persons who should be allowed in to heaven. Ship me $100 and I will put you on the latest version of this list. As unlikely as this may seem, it is best of err on the side of caution, right?

youre on the right side here but realize that faith is not worthless, its evil. its negative, not zero. where there is the lack of reason, there is force and aggression, because reason will never amount to force with all things being reasonable. insert faith, and this all goes out the window. a reasonable society will never produce the inquisition, 9/11, nazism, or the cultural revolution. faith is the most well known way to bypass reason. I know you know all this but im just saying.

Yeah, because Ayn Rand's bullshit pop-culture philosophy barely makes more sense than the bible. Barely.
a pop-culture philosopher would be immanuel kant, because his thinking is whats popular these days. and as usual for most people, you cannot make any argument against ayn rand, you just regurgitate what someone else told you. if you value reason, you value ayn rand.
