Confusing offseason :club:
Finally did some smart things today. Signed Dobbs to two years for 2.5 million and Hamels to a 3-year deal for guarenteed 20.5 million with incentives. Hamels' deal will take him to the end of his arbitration period, and if he stays on task will probably end up saving us a fair amount that he would make in arbitration during his last two years of eligibility. Hopefully he just stays healthy. Now I'm just cringing to wait and see how much we have to pay Howard in arbitration.

Yeah Howard might not even be worth the 14. If there were any comparable replacements I would look to deal him right away.
I agree, but I know there's no way we deal him immediately after winning the championship. That's why now I'm currently hoping that we at least start to shop him the first "excuse" we get, such as dropping out of the race early this year.

Can't get a decent start yet in any of our games but we're still 3-3 so far. I guess I should be grateful.
Relax it is a long year. Cole is a key, if he gets a little pop back on #1 his change will be awesome...if he doesn't...ugh. The rest of the pitching staff will be ok, i think.Stay at 500 or little above and float along till it warms up and Howard goes on a monster heater.Utley still best player on team. We need him healthy!!

WASHINGTON -- Longtime Philadelphia Phillies broadcaster Harry Kalas, who punctuated innumerable home runs with his "Outta Here!" call, died Monday after being found in the broadcast booth before a game against the Washington Nationals. He was 73. "We lost our voice today," team president David Montgomery said, his voice cracking. "He has loved our game and made just a tremendous contribution to our sport and certainly to our organization." Kalas was found by the Phillies' director of broadcasting at about 12:30 p.m. and taken to a local hospital, Montgomery said. Kalas had surgery earlier this year for an undisclosed ailment that the team characterized as minor. He looked somewhat drawn last week as the Phillies opened the season at home. Kalas joined the Phillies in 1971. Before that, he was an original member of the Houston Astros' broadcast team from 1965-70. He also did voiceover work for NFL Films and for commercials. In 2002, he received the Baseball Hall of Fame's Ford C. Frick Award for his contributions to the game. Kalas joined the Phillies radio and TV broadcast team the year the club moved into their former home, Veterans Stadium, replacing fan favorite Bill Campbell. He wasn't immediately embraced by Phillies fans, despite being paired with Richie Ashburn, a Hall of Famer as a player, and longtime announcer. But Kalas evolved into a beloved sports figure in Philadelphia. He and Ashburn grew into a popular team, and shared the booth until Ashburn's death in 1997.

So...we're including Lidge on the postseason roster. Awesome.
Two saves for Lights outs...whoohoo. Great game last night. Lidge tossed a couple of flat ones up there but lucky for us Tulowitski decided to take one of the best pitches he is ever going to see. He was terrible....but who cares a win is a win.The Fightins were so clutch in the 9th. They actually didn't play very well for the night but it was enough for this round. They will need to play and pitch better to beat the Dodgers.

Ryan Howard is hitting 400 OPS higher against right handers ( 1088) than he is against left handers (653). That is LOL funny. He's Barry Bonds against righties, and not a major league player against left handers, I've never seen such a massive split.

This year that seems to be the case. However last year for sure and some others that was not the case. Not sure what to make of that.

I'm glad we managed to win tonight, for both the Phillies sake and the Yankees actually. If the Yankees are going to win, at least they'll get to celebrate the final win at home. Still holding out hope that we can just slug our way to wins the next two games though. It might not be too contrived a hope either given how many bombs we've been hitting.

Good game, Phillies. Utley is pretty frightening. Pettitte is going to have to figure out how to shut him down if we're going to take game 6 in the Bronx.
