Can we prop up housing prices? Or do they have further to go?saupload_case_shiller_chart_updated.pngOne problem I have with this graph is that it is not adjusted for house size. A more meaningful valuation of houses is "Square foot of house per hour of work". I believe on that scale, housing is still cheaper than at any point in history.

Also H, the location of a home is the biggest factor in it's value, and with more people, we have fewer 'prime' locations, therefore the value should have a much higher bottom than the past 2 downturns.

As the CEO of a corporation I would not want the corporate tax rate lowered, as it would remove us from the Number one slot on the "Most taxed corporations in the world" list which is pretty cool to be on. It only cost a few million jobs, but those are workers...why have any tax plans that would benefit them?
You can't even be number one in that, Japan is! :club:
Looks like this spot is about to be America's again. Way to plan ahead dems, way to plan ahead

true, it's far more favourable to look like beaker.if i have a citi credit card, and citi goes under, is my balance outstanding written off?
sure!
LOL. DANG I just closed and paid off a Citi card. The answer is NO. Your debt to Citi and the debt of others is an "asset" that will be purchased by some company for pennies on the dollar and you can be sure that they will make you pay pay pay.

Some facts emailed to me this morning...never thought about it this way. The next time you hear a politician use theword 'billion' in a casual manner, think aboutwhether you want the 'politicians' spendingYOUR tax money.A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, but one advertising agency did a good job ofputting that figure into some perspective inone of it's releases.A.. A billion seconds ago it was 1959.B. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.C. A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.D. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.E. A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our is spending it.

A Democrat explains economics, defending the important fact that the more we owe, the richer we are:

Notice the clarity of his explanation.

akoff, just to let you know, the quote you have in your signature attributed to G. Ford is actually taken from Thomas Jefferson. Just thought you'd like to know where Ford got it from.Government big enough to supply everything you need is big enough to take everything you have ... The course of history shows that as a government grows, liberty decreases. The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not. -Thomas Jefferson

more fun quotes from Jefferson:The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not. -Thomas JeffersonMost bad government has grown out of too much government.-Thomas JeffersonThe two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first.-Thomas Jefferson

She had volunteers working for course credit through college programs. I don't understand why she acted so guilty when questioned on that.

Because she knew she had an indefensible position: that she allows people to work for her for free, but does not allow others to do the same. Notice that this one and the other link, when they realize their position is indefensible, they try to change the subject and when that fails they get hostile. It seems to me if you can't defend your position, maybe you want to look a little closer at your ideas? Hmmm.....

it's not "for free," though. they are using it as part of their college education. they paid tuition for the luxury of working under pelosi. lord, I don't understand why anyone would do that, but there it is.it feels like he picked a weird spot to try to make his point, is all. there are people out there who legitimately don't want to make as much as minimum wage says they need to, for instance.

The point is that she would deny people the freedom to make the same choice in other industries; apparently she thinks she's so important or politics is so noble that it is OK to not pay people trying to break into politics, but people trying to break into the fast food industry or Target or other industries is not afforded the same choice because people like her would deny that right. Are you defending that position, or do you just think it's a trivial issue?I can assure you, it's not trivial for the people at the bottom of the economic ladder.

I think there are unpaid summer internships handed out at koch and other companies through KU, for course credit. I'm not 100% on that. it's a strange arrangement.I'm neither defending the position nor calling it trivial. I do think people ought to be able to elect to work on a volunteer basis if they choose, and I often wonder how our employment numbers would look if the minimum wage laws weren't in place. it isn't a huge issue with me, and hell I'd probably make less at mcdonalds if they were gone.

Citi Group is retarded. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123604815369915983.htmlAlso, WTF at announcing stuff like this. "Oh... so if we stop paying our mortgage then we pay less? Sounds good."Why does this country want to punish people who aren't late on their payments? Does this make sense TO ANYONE!!?!?!?!?!?!?!

"This year, taxpayers will receive an Economic Stimulus Payment. This is aVery exciting new program that I will explain using the Q and A format:Q. What is an Economic Stimulus Payment?A. It is money that the federal government will send to taxpayers.Q. Where will the government get this money?A. From taxpayers.Q. So the government is giving me back my own money?A. Only a smidgen.Q. What is the purpose of this payment?A. The plan is that you will use the money to purchase a high-definition TV Set, thus stimulating the economy.Q. But isn't that stimulating the economy of China ?A. Shut up.

a common misconception. most of the states taking a stand against the stimulus and federal spending are in the group of states that get more back for their taxes.South Carolina, for instance, in 2005 (the most recent year we have data for at this point) received $1.35 in Federal spending for every $1.00 it paid in taxes. Ironically, it is the big liberal states that are getting screwed for South Carolina and Louisiana's benefit.http://articles.latimes.com/2005/feb/15/lo...cal_me-budget15from 2003: Federal returnsEighteen states, including California, sent more tax money to Washington in fiscal 2003 than they received back in federal spending.
