CaneBrain 95
but can they extend or resign him? otherwise, i dont see the point.well they only had to give up one of their three super-prospects. (though La Porta is a good one)I just think that the Brewers front office knows they have not been in the playoffs since 1982. And they know they just passed St. Louis in the Wild Card standings. So, I think they are doing whatever they have to do to make the playoffs this year just to give the fan base something. And adding one of the 5 best SPs in baseball should be enough to keep them ahead of the Cards, Marlins, Mets, Braves hodge podge.Plus, they could totally take the patented Marlins route to the World Series.....any team with CC and Sheets could be tremendously dangerous in a short series. I would never give up a top prospect to acquire even the best player in the leauge if I have no chance of resigning him. Unless they make the Series I dont see it as being worth it.Plus, lets say you make the move, it works out and you make the series, maybe even win it. Then you dont even pony up the cash to resign him. That makes you look bad to the fans. Yeah, they'll be happy for a little while, but eventually they'll tire of that kind of strategy.I dont know. Usually when teams get a player like this they usually wind up signing him to a long term contract. With a player of this caliber the team wants to show that they are serious about winning and not just short-term. Also barring any of his injuries flaring up again, they will likely sign him for an extended contract.BTW, congrats to the Brewers for making a move like this. I was really hoping the Sox would go after him. sigh.

He said that the teams executives have said that they cannot afford him. So they are taking a one time shot. That is what really threw me off. CC is going to get 20 million from someone. The Brewers cant afford that, apparently.

showstopper24 0
wow the brew crew gets Sabathia. That was unexpected. I really like how proactive their GM was here.....fortune favors the bold and all that.It wasn't unexpected. Almost everybody epected the Indians to trade him to the Brewers.but can they extend or resign him? otherwise, i dont see the point. The Brewers are going for it all. They trades away their prospects (and their future) and they don't have a good chance of signing CC and as far as I know, they don't have a big chance of resigning Sheets. They really are going for the win here, cuz their future looks bleak.

For a team that is consistently in the hunt, I don't like the rent-a-player strategy, but if you only got 1 shot, might as well take it.

TommyGavin81 0
Second half gonna start strong with C.C. back on the hill. Go Crew! One time let me see my team in the playoffs after following them close for 20 years now. I was but a tiny one year old last time they made it.

TommyGavin81 0
Weeeeee. Takin' care of business against the bad teams. Good for them, especially on the road. 3 back and charging towards the Cubbies.
