Well, back in the day, I owned dozens and dozens- there pretty much wasn't anything that I didn't own at least once. Every gun I "used", meaning, it actually got dirty. None of them were safe queens. My own personal preferences:I prefer AKs to ARs for most all normal use, but in situations where I know the gun is going to stay clean, I'd definitely take the AR. Oh yeah, and I know how big of a sacrilege it is to say this out loud in the Tactical Tom community, but I absolutely love Mini 14's. Mine, under harsh field conditions, have been dead set reliable and accurate enough to practically serve their purpose rather than theoretically accurate enough to argue about over the internet. I'm definitely a Glock guy, and a 10MM guy. Seen 9MM, .45 ACP, .40 and 10MM in action on ferral hogs- there just isn't any comparison. A light, fast 10MM totally ****ing pwns, but really, it's 95% shooter and 5% bullet. When I carried a 9, it was a CZ75. I do appreciate the utility of a good shotgun. In precision rifles, well, I wasn't ever a good enough precision rifle shooter to really take advantage of the difference between a "stock" Remington PSS and a "tuned" PSS, but god, how I saw every marginal shooter ejaculate over spending $1000 "tuning" their rifles to shoot at a degree of accuracy that is substantially higher than their abilities to take advantage of it.Like, there are very few guys in the world who really make use of a 1/2 MOA difference (in circumstances other than the bench), but, as with IQ's, Lake Wobegon rules the day and indeed, all shooters are really above average, if you ask them about it. That's where I always tried to distinguish myself. I always applied stone cold objectivity to every gun I owned and viewed them as working tools- little machines with a purpose- rather than as magical voo-doo medicine sent from the gods that make smoke and thunder and ward off evil spirits, which seems to be the common mentality amongst about 90% of gun nuts, given the worship I see them receive.
My dad was a Glock guy, until he bought a Beretta. He still likes his Glock for his carry piece because of it's size, but for pure shooting enjoyment he prefers the Beretta. I've always wanted to try a 10mm but never had a chance to yet. Everything I've read about the cartridge leads me to believe I'll eventually own one though.I guess I've never really viewed my weapons based on whether I was gonna be rolling around in the muck with them because, realistically, I know what I'll be doing with them. I'll be at a range, trying to put lead on paper. I've seen tons of the AK vs. AR arguments as well as fired an AK and I'm gonna have to say that I'm definitely a fan of the AR's over the AK's. The AK was probably one of the most difficult to shoot due to weight and bulk. It just wasn't a comfortable weapon to operate. I love laughing at those guys with the 2000 dollar rifle that can't hit shit with it. My theory is that it's almost like TMMS. They've got this cash, want a rifle, so they skip over a solid open sight rifle and go straight to a tricked out show piece before they have even a basic grasp on the fundamentals of shooting.

Being a Winnner is like playing with the cheat codes on.

Ouc, I cant see an image but I assume its just a stripped lower?       Buy a fire control group, which has the trigger, hammer, disconnector, safety, and the pins and springs. I like DPMS parts. S

I take it back. She's flippin' gorgeous!   http://i.imgur.com/f38kVtJ.jpg       Boooooo, I don't know the code to make that show up as a pic instead of a link.

So I live in a smaller community about an hour from San Francisco. We have very little crime and never have a ghetto bird flying around, until last night. I am get home at about 6:30 and there is a Chopper spolighting around our neighborhood and the water (we live on the CA delta). This is unusual so I call the sheriffs to find out what is going on, all they will tell me is they are searching for someone who got away from them. Out here the birds aren't pulled out for the hell of it, whoever is running did something fairly serious. So I lock all the doors and windows and turn on all the lights in the yard so he does not want to hide there and then I go to grab my Smith & Wesson 9MM (back story: My dad was a cop this was his service gun for years until I bouth him a p226 then he gave me this) Its an OK gun, serviceable, I would rather have the Sig though. I keep it unloaded in my closet up high (don't have a safe although I have been looking for one, I also have an old springfield 22, a 357 and I am getting a shotgun.I go to grab the box of ammo I keep by the gun to load my clips, just in case. And idiot me, I forgot that I shot all my ammo camping a couple months back, and never restocked, so here I am in the rare ****ing situation that I may possibly need my gun and I have no ammo!!So needless to say I am going to go buy some hollow points today.Guns I wantSig Saur P226 .40Sig Saur 22 MosquitoShotgun (not sure what yet)Thats about it for now, eventually maybe replace my 9mm w/ Sig and get a Kimber .45. My uncle works for Sig, so I can get somewhat of a deal.

I'm not a big gun guy myself. They are fun to shoot off, like adult fire works, but I'm in the bottom 20 percent when it comes to hand/eye co-ordination, so I'm pretty useless when it comes to shooting them. And I lean pretty heavy when it comes to "utility" rather than collecting useless shit that looks shiny and impressive. I used to be, In my more flaming liberal days, strongly in favor of gun control. Now, not so much. Since I don't use or collect them I wouldn't really care if they got banned, but I also don't have a hard on to ban them. The only gun I will probably ever own is the shot gun I will use to blow my head with, when/if I get diagnosed with an incurable disease.

I'm a Sig guy myself. Never really liked the triggers on any GLOCK I've shot.P-226 .357sig also have a .40 barrel.P-220 Combat with threaded barrel coming in a week or so (suppressor will follow several months later) RRA Tactical Entry M-4gery with an Eotech 511.Stoeger coach gun. (side by side double barrel shotgun)Looking to pick up a couple of more M-4 variants including one in .458 SOCOM (for big bore fun) and at least 3-4 different AK variants before end of 08' on the off chance of the Hildebeast getting elected and another AWB coming about. Plenty of other ones that I want on the the list as well. Along with needing to get my CCW here in the next month or so.

I'm definitely a Glock guy, and a 10MM guy.
whoa, old school. one of my friend's dad is a cop and used to swear by a 10mm, and he's killed a couple of guys with it, so he knows what he's talking about. he's switched to .40 now, though I'm not sure why. my glock is a .40 and I love it. I have many others, which I'm sure I will discuss in here at some point, but not now. now is the time for the A in the ATF.

All the .40 is is a shortened 10MM.It's only intent is so the launching platform can have a smaller frame; also, less recoil so the gun can be issued to women, affirmative action hires and limp-wristed homosexuals. A properly loaded 10MM (like, Doubletaps) is worlds away from a .40 and with 16 of them in a Glock 20, there isn't much debate as to teh winnar.

LAWLS. if i had to grab a gun everytime a ghetto bird flew over, it'd be easier just to keep in my waistline.maybe a little over reaction?okay question,my recently departed grandfather left behind a pilot's .45 from WWII. it probably hasn't been fired in 30+ years. if i wanted to start using it again, should i get a home cleaning kit and get to it or have it super professionally serviced. i've never even fired a hand gun, but i'm pretty mechanically inclined. how big of an undertaking would it be?

Easy. Turn the barrel bushing, out comes the spring and plug.Mag release pops out to the side disengaging the link pin, the top half slides off the frame. You don't want to detail strip it for a simple cleaning or if you aren't experienced with it, but the 1911 was made to be completely stripped and reassembled using no tools (you can see how this is done online) so after 30 years, maybe. The price of USGI 1911's have gone completely gay in teh last decade or so. There's a pretty strong chance that you won't want to actually shoot that thing as a hobby. Occasionally, fine, but it's probably worth four or five new Springfield commercial 'Mil-Spec' 1911's, potentially more.

Yeah, they're really good. Some Internet Gun Board theorists don't like them (for whatever reason; web board theorists are usually tards anyway), but the 92FS I had was probably the only 9MM I've ever owned that was as reliable as my G17 or CZ75.

I :club: this thread. For a shotgun for home protection, hard to beat a Mossberg 500AT or a Remington 870. For the person who asked why I carry one? #1 because I can!!! I am an 11 year Navy vet, work in a computer store with certain days we have lots of cash. Why do you think you see pawn shop employees carry guns. Cash = Dumbasses who want it. I am not going to give up my hard earned $$ to some crack head. With all my time in the Navy I have shot a lot of guns that are not available on the street, but was never a Glock man. The grip is just a little too wide for my hands to shoot comfortably. But I do love making the magic thunderstick go boom!!!!El Guapo, do you ever fish the Delta? I used to catch bass & sturgeon up there when I lived in Frisco (87-91).

So is the Beretta 9mm a good gun?I'm heading out for some AT in the ATF, and if it's a good gun, some ATF in a few weeks.
Absolutely. Plus, the ammo is fairly economical which makes for great plinkibility. But if you're looking at a Beretta I like my 96FS. Not as good penetration from the round but it's got more stopping power which I like on the off chance that'll I have to actually use it. Not a lot of crackheads wear body armor.

I am an awful shot. Can't hit the ground with a shotgun, just never learned the right way and now I shake too much from all the cigars. So last summer I went to Bass lake in Cal for a guys weekend, water-skiing, poker, cigars, shooting and golf. We go shooting and they hand me a 9mm, I walk out real careful and aim and gently pull the trigger, and nothing. So I figure the safety is on, so I release the lever near my thunb, and the magazine falls into the dirt.I'll stick with grenades, much more user friendly.

thats a really neat way to get yourself either shot or into a whole lot of trouble. im all for people having guns and whatnot, but stuff like this is just crazy. have you considered the consequences for shooting someone? you do realize you can kill them right? you are going to take somebody's life becouse they rob you for $50 and some pizza?

now this kind of scares me. not becouse you hear that somebody got pulled over and ran from the cops in your neighborhood and get scared and run for your gun. no, that kind of paranoia is just sad. what scares me is that you seem geniunly excited about the prospect of getting to use your gun to shoot somebody.
Of the 2.4 million American people that died in 2002 (the best stats I could readily find), 62% died from heart disease or cancer, and just over 1% died from firearms (again, more than 50% of those gun deaths were suicides or drug murders). If you still think that gun violence is the huge blight on the face of our society that the government and media tell us it is, then I don't really know what else to say to you.
exactly. you really think you need to own a gun to feel safe? i've lived in new york city for 24 years and i've had a gun pulled on me once, and you know what? i was probably asking for it. if you want to decrease your likelihood of dying stop smoking and eating like a pig and maybe go for a walk once in a while. and if you want to keep your kids safe, you can try making them do this too.again, don't get me wrong. i think that people should be able to own guns. i think its 100% necessary that people be allowed to own guns. but sheesh, you sure are an awfully paranoid lot. --------sorry to hijack your thread hank. ill try to contribute something a little more on topic. so i've never shot a gun in my life and would like to. where would i go for this sort of thing? would i look up a shooting range in the phone book and give them a call? is that like a normal thing they do, have classes about this sort of thing?

When I lived in the hood I bought my shotgun because I was nervous about break ins and home invasion (because the person who owned the house before me was robbed a couple times) but that never happened. It was sure nice to be able to pull it out of the closet when the black kids started going after each other with hatchets on my front lawn, and when the cab driver got shot two doors down though. Pretty nice to have it when my girlfriends ex-husband called me up drunk one night and started spouting off about bringing everyone from the bar to my front door to lynch me too. He never showed up, but the 12 gauge came out of the closet. "In case" is a perfectly good reason for owning a gun. I own more than one because I'm a hopeless acquirer of things I don't need, kind of the same way I own 4 guitars even though I don't really play anymore. If I make it through my entire existence on this planet without ever having to point one of my guns at another person, I'll feel wonderful about that, I'll feel like things went the way they're supposed to go.

i agree. having a gun in your home "in case" is a completely reasonable thing to do. knowing that somebody may have committed a crime around your house and that the police are looking for him and running to the closet to grab your gun becouse you might get to use it is paranoid. and chrozzo, i understand that getting robbed is a really nasty thing, and that it makes you feel really small and helpless, but really, shooting somebody or getting shot over a few dollars is not cool.

i dont want to get into a big thing about it here......but there are some neighborhoods in my town that was less than nice...so i want a little protection, since the closest police stationis about 10 block away. I understand the ramifications of premature firearm use, and I belive I am mature enough to avoid those.Belive me, i am smart anough NOT to pulla gun o a knife wielding moron, but if I am in our town ghetto, and he pulls a gun on me....chances are I will match the action and fire...i would be well within myrights

You live in New York. Come out to the real world. You will learn.
