Seriously, what kind of an idiot are you? Do you even have your GED? First, you say Arenas' chances of winning are .38%. Even if you meant 3.8%, that's about 30-1 odds you should be giving me on this bet. Instead, you offer 3-1!? If Arenas was offered at 3-1 at any sportsbook right now hed's be by far the runaway MVP choice on the books. Wade, Nash et all wouldn't be offered at odds near to 6-1. Honestly, I do not trust you in the slightest but I will wager up to $100 that Arenas will win the MVP at 30-1 odds. You're so sure he won't win that you think he has less than a 1% chance, so you should jump at this offer.Haters can keep hating on Arenas by saying he only scores, but he puts up great all-around numbers every night. Look at the statline Meservey posted above. Most of his games are like that. So far this season his total stats are not comparable to anyone else's including Lebron's. It is this brand of thinking of Arenas as simply a one-dimensional scorer that makes what he does even more amazing. Where would the Heat be without Wade, Suns without Nash, Cavs without Lebron? The Wiz would be in the same place this year without Arenas' contributions. Goodnite all and happy holidays. :club:
I made you a bet and you dont want to take it. So be it. I am pretty sure my educational background is on a slightly higher plane than yours. And by slight I mean leaps and bounds.I am not giving you 30-1 odds on everything. Just because I think Gilbert's chances of winning are virtually non-existent (i just love how seriously you take a joking number like .38% you are just going to keep harping on this arent you?) doesnt mean I am going to actually bet money giving someone insanely high odds. You think he is so great take the bet.....you dont think 3-1 is good enough odds then dont take the bet.Comparing the current supporting casts of the Heat/Cavs to the Wiz is hilarious. I think Wade would kill to have Caron Butler around to take some of the pressure off. It turns out Arenas is avg. 6 assts a game which is higher than I figured. However, considering the overall number of points the Wiz score it isnt that impressive.... neither of you addressed how inflated his stats are by the pace the Wiz choose to play at but tough ideas like context are probably too hard for you to grasp.

Ok CaneBrain, I'm going to keep this thread on track so it gets back to being about all things GILBERT ARENAS. Plus, stating my educational background to you will just make me look pompous and conceited. Well, you asked for it. You can start with 1600 SAT in 9th grade, score of 5 on 12 AP courses, acceptance to every Ivy League school applied to, bachelor's in electrical engineering from a top university in the field, and currently working on my mba. Now, since this thread is about GA, I'm not gonna argue with you anymore about who is "smarter", or take you up on a ridiculous 3-1 bet.

I like Arenas, and I think he is a very underrated superstar. Unfortunately he has almost no chance at MVP. The other candidates are more established and having an excellent season. He'll get some votes, but I dont see him finishing any higher than 5th. (But 5th is a real possibility). The Wizards absolutely rely on Arenas. Watching him play, I'm very impressed with the way he runs the Wizards offense. He keeps everyone invloved, creates oppotunites for others, and takes over at the right time. Since the Wizards play no D and are intent on out scoring people, Arenas is vital to their success. Those other players depend on him more than you think.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Gilbert Arenas got the ball with the score tied and 6 seconds to play. He dribbled downcourt, read Charlie Bell's retreating feet, stopped and stroked a perfect jumper 32 feet from the basket."Once I let it go, I'm like, 'That's in," Arenas said. "I don't even need to look at this one."He didn't. He turned with a snarl and a strut, strolling away with his back to the basket as if it were another shot on the playground. The ball swished through the net, giving Arenas another signature moment to his growing legacy and the Washington Wizards a 108-105 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks."I thought he would take one more dribble," Bell said. "I give him credit. They say he has no conscience, and he doesn't."Arenas had three things working against him Wednesday night. His shooting shoulder was sore from a collision with Ruben Patterson on Saturday. He had to deal with the Bucks' zone defense, which always seems to rattle him. And he had to deal with the return of the old leather ball -- after he had won player of the month for December playing with the microfiber one.No matter. Arenas, who just might be working himself into MVP contention, finished with 32 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists and made the shot that counted most.

I wonder how many different comparisons we are going to see with the new ball and the old one now.

straight cash, homey. WPB for life.
off topic: For sho.I meant to quote Gilbert as well in regards to my joke. How's the wonderful city of Miami treatin you?on topic:I saw the highlights of that shot this morning. I though he was only around 5 or 6 feet behind the arc but still, kid has no conscience. He's a shooter in the purest sense. He's like John Starks, only more of his shots go in, and without the D. A shooter will just keep shooting. If they are cold, they think that they are due, if they make one,, they think they can't miss. Sick mentality most shooters have.

I didnt see the shot. Was it from one side of the court close to that hash mark (the one for the coaches box I think)?I'm asking because I've seen him make shots from there on several occassions this season. Almost the exact same spot everytime. He just pulls up before anyone expects. He's got to be practicing that shot.

Wade filling the stat sheet with 40, 11, 5, 4 and 4 is infinitely more impressive than one of Gilbert's 54 pt, 1 assist, 2 rebound games. Arenas scores points.....
arenas tonight: 35 pts, 12 assists, 7 boards, 4 steals

HIBACHI
NEW YORK (TICKER) - Washington Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas has not cooled off in 2007. The Eastern Conference Player of the Month for December, Arenas was named NBA Player of the Week on Monday. Claiming his third career weekly honor, Arenas averaged 33.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, 7.3 assists and 2.7 steals in helping the Wizards win two of three games. In Wednesday's 108-105 victory over Milwaukee, he had 32 points, 11 boards, eight assists, four steals and sank a buzzer-beating 32-footer to win the game. I believe that's 3 player of the weeks in the last 4 weeks. En fuego! Here's a link to Gil's blog at nba.com http://www.nba.com/blog/gilbert_arenas.html

Wow! Gilbert has 51 pts in a win over the Jazz, and Utah is good team that plays defense. Amazing.
You left out that he hit the game winner, one of 3 guys in last 10 years to go for 50 and hit a game winning shot in the last 10 seconds of the game.

dropped to 8th in the player ratings....You wouldn't think it, not with the way the mere mention of something called a "Gilbert Arenas" just seems to bring a smile to the face of young and old alike, but Agent Zero has been struggling recently. Take out Monday's win over the Jazz, and Arenas averaged 19 points on 29 percent shooting in four games (two wins) since Jan. 10. Of course, he drops a Forget-Me-Now in our drink with that 51-point explosion against Utah, nailing a game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer and at once making everything all right.---Kelly Dwyer, Cnnsi.comThe season has nearly reached the halfway point, and the Minnesota Timberwolves (the ones who employ some of the sounder minds of our generation, including Ricky Davis, Eddie Griffin, Mark Blount and Mike James) are three games over .500, and have won seven of nine in January. Garnett is averaging 24.6 points, 14.1 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 2.7 blocks and a steal during that stretch. Just something to think about the next time you hear someone trumping Arenas for the MVP award.---Dwyer Dwyane WadeDidn't mind making the noise, and hardly mind retelling the story for the faithful reader(s): Wade tossed in a body-reversed runner off glass during Thursday's win over Indiana that made me gasp like a teeny bopper at a Herman's Hermits (or whatever the kids jive to these days) concert. No boffin in all of Florida would recommend the sort of spin Wade put on the leather for any sort of recreational activity, but you can't argue with the results, or Wade's January averages of 30.7 points, 8.5 assists, 2.7 steals.----dwyer

I still think Dirk is the front runner this year...
agree. he is #1 in dwyer's player ratings. Playing lights out right now. This whole thread was about Arenas' MVP chances which I think are close to non-existent. Sure Arenas is amazing but he is just the flavor of the month as well. I cant see him ending up above the usuals: Dirk, nash, Wade, Bron, KG.....

side by side comparison of Arenas and Wade from John Hollinger's Espn.com article about his All star picks......Gilbert Arenas, G, WizardsArenas' non-selection a year ago was among the most indefensible All-Star snubs ever (he eventually made it as an injury replacement), but he needn't worry about a repeat.Mr. Hibachi has pumped in 29.4 points per game, nailed multiple game-winning shots, and thrown his hat into the MVP ring while keeping Washington atop the Southeast Division. Here's an added thought -- perhaps he should get an invite to the 3-Point Shootout too. Arenas is shooting 39.1 percent from downtown on nearly eight attempts a game, many of which are difficult off-the-dribble tries.Dwyane Wade, G, HeatHe's not going to win the MVP award because of the Heat's record, but I am utterly convinced that Wade is the best player in the league, and that Miami would be about 5-37 right now without him.Not only is he No. 1 in the NBA in PER, he's also a solid defender and a deadly player in late-game situations because of his ability to get a shot whenever he wants and his knack for getting to the line.Lost in all his scoring exploits is how much he's helping those around him: He's quietly averaging 7.9 assists per game, making him seventh in the league and the runaway No. 1 among shooting guards.
