Sens-Eh 0
It seems like he should kind of play more tight right now and grab the $$ the low stacks are gonna toss around and not get into too many hard decisions. It seems like he thinks everyone there is a donk.......but these last 800 are the best 10% this year. Maybe he should give this group a little more credit than he did in the first part of the tourny.I agree with the "this is the best 10% of the players" bit, but umm, he is one of the low stacks now...he's only got half the average chip stack. So he can't sit around too long (and he won't I'm sure)...
XX44466XX 0
According to poker theory, you dont play 90% of your hands in a tourny.Unless you are shooting for a 10% fold percentage.
toddkrit 0
Cardplayer is now saying that DN is down to 55,000. CRAP! I agree with the "this is the best 10% of the players" bit, but umm, he is one of the low stacks now...he's only got half the average chip stack. So he can't sit around too long (and he won't I'm sure)...Ya, now. But when the post started he was still in the top 20.
godoffrisbee 0
You can say all you want, but we weren't there. I'm sure we all remember the good ole' days when blogs were written, and when DN made a sick read, he always said that he could just look at a guy and feel if he was strong or weak. Think about how many hands the guy may have that DN can beat and that the guy would call the all-in with: AJ, AT, A9, A8, KT, KJ, Jx, 89, etc...Now think of all the hands that have DN beat that the guy would play in that way: JT, QJ, Qx. Any hand stronger than 2 pair would have played the hand a lot faster on that scary flop. So, I think DN made a great read here and played basic fundamental strategy by putting his opponent on a range of hands and determining that, if he pushed and was called, it was a +EV decision(by the way, the term "EV" is thrown around by way too many people these days).Anyways, good push by DN, good call by random dude, the money was gonna go in anyway unless the river was some random blank. See ya.
pokerdan97 0
No matter how many donkeys he says were in the tournament there was almost 9k people but 80-85% of the players are gone already so the people who are left will be for the most part good solid players and not people who are gonna let him run all over them. He plays 80-90% of the hands like he said he was doing before he's gonna be busted today for sure. I'm sure he's smart enough and experienced enough to not play as many hands as he was before but his push there was still a bad play.

The fact that his stack is down to 55,000 now, kind of proves that point. Then again......im not there, this is all just opinion.
alf13 0
explain to me how an INSIDE straight hitting on the river is an OBVIOUS straight board, just because a board ends up 4 to a straight, doesn't mean it's an obvious straight board, the only hands that could logically make a straight are 78 or QJ, and Daniel had obviously been pushing alot of hands, the opponent had half his stack in the pot already, there are several reasons why this isn't a ridiculously horrible call.UH...a J98 flop is an obvious straight board dude. i don't know what you want me to say. Btw...nice analysis. 78 and QJ only got home? try these: T7, QT...have the straight on the flop. The OE draws are: ...yep...you guessed it...any Ten, and 76. nevermind all the gutterballs that could be out there. That flop is an obvious straight flop. that is the biggest draw that could be out against you.As for the hands that can logically make a straight...try: any Queen, KQ, ANY 7, ah...jesus.I called it a great play...because it was. Daniel is not pushing saying: "Oh gee..I hope he lays down a sucker straight..." Daniel is pushing because he KNOWS his opponent doesn't HAVE ONE and he thought his opponent couldn't call because of this fact. His opponent did. This isn't brain surgery. This is abc stuff that you obviously have a little trouble with. Amazon has some excellent poker books available for purchase.Ah...learn a little about the game before you comment.Fri Aug 04 17:51:00 PDT 2006Negreanu's Stack DentedOn a flop of J98, Daniel Negreanu bets $12,000 and Chris Combs calls. The turn is the 3 and Negreanu shoots out again with $18,000. Combs calls and the river puts the 10 on the board. Negreanu pushes all-in, having Combs well covered and Combs calles all-in, showing J10 for top two pair. Negreanu shows 108 for a worse two pair and Combs rakes in the pot to double up to $130,000. Negreanu's stack is now down to $158,000.
phlegm 6
It wasnt a bad call, just slightly on the weak side of variance. GO DANIEL>

therrinn 0
Umm, not pushing here would have been retarded. If he checks and the other player jams, is he going to fold?

chubby74 0
The villian made a great call and read. Daniel played the hand fine, but in that situation it was too risky. The risk far outweighted the reward.
