BobVersion1 0
So last night I sat down at the $0.02/$0.05 PLO8 table (I hardly play ring games) and I stayed there for a little over an hour and made about $4 over what I sat down with. As I stated, I hardly play Ring games, more into SNGs and MTTs. Now, after last night, I'm starting to think I might want to expand into Ring game play more a bit. My question is this. I want to set a limit for myself for each session. Obviously factors come up ( Real hot or Real Cold, etc). Mainly though, I want to know, would it be better to set a time limit (After one hour, no matter what, I'm leaving) something along those lines...or a Money limit (If I end up $15, walk away and take a break). Sorry if it's a little confusing, but I'm curious what you guys think is the best way to kind of keep myself on a leash without sitting for 3 hours and eventually losing it all. When I used to play ring games, thats what would happen. I would be up and would just keep playing till I lost it all. Any advice would be great!
DB10-2 0
depends on your objectives. if you're playing to make money, the mantra at least in many circles is to play hours (time), not results. ie, if you think you're a winning player, every minute you sit at a table has value to you whether you're folding, losing by taking a beat, or raking a huge pot--it all comes out in the wash. therefore, if you think you can beat a game, the idea is to play as much as you can while still playing your A game. to handle the losses, you must use smart money management by not playing higher than your roll can withstand, etc., because bad swings do happen.if, however, you're just playing for fun and you don't want to lose your money, you might want to set a win/loss limit, ie at a certain level if you're up or down say 20% of the buyin, your game might change, you might play worse, and so your rule is you have to stop playing.so, as in most things in poker, the best answer is, "it depends." Speedy Petey 0
I will get reamed for this but who cares. I can't believe how many posts that are about these tiny micro limits. If you can't afford to lose $25 or $50 I do not think you should be playing. I mean come on, bankroll mgt for a $25 roll or playing for 3 hours to make $4? Just play with play money. I'm in a bad mood.

Castor Troy 0
I just go by how I feel. If I'm playing well and running well, then I'll play as long as I feel good.

I'm in a bad mood.I play $11 Mtts, I play $6 SNGs, [brag warning] won a 1252 person $5 tourney once for $1300 [brag end]..... my point is I don't play ring games much, so I started down at a level where it wasn't above my head. I don't mind losing the money, but I'd like to be at a limit where I can really win money and then work upwards. I would rather be UP $4 then down $2. Plus, play money just has nothing behind it. I played play money for a while at the beginning, but now I'll only play it when my Fiance is on and we enter a same tourney for fun. The absolute lowest limits of real money are 10 times as much fun as Play money.
