I agree with this sentiment, untill people make personal attacks on me.. then those people can get fcked.as for the question, I agree that there are many reasons that I would personally kill another person and almost all of them deal with me, my family or friends that I consider family being threatened. War goes far beyond this, how ever.. I have no problem with wars that are about defending yourself from an aggressive nation that threats your country. How ever few wars are that simple, and few wars the united states has ever fought have fallen under that category.

Well, the worst personal attack I've ever faced was someone trying to assume something about me before taking the time to try to understand me. But I know what you're saying. I have seen some un-needed remarks leveled at you.About war... yea, in modern times it is QUITE rare for any conflict to be a simple "defense" issue.

I take no personal attacks on these forums, lol. I think some healthy debate is a good way to hear opposing sides of an issue. Of course Vegas would still be Vegas had we not gone over there. But it is merely my personal belief that what we are doing in the war on terror, be in Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, is keeping the world safer. I know sometimes it doesn't seem that way sometimes, but we are at least making small vicotires against some terrorist cells in various parts of the world.

nyc has become such a safe place thats its probably hard to imagine unless you live here. seriously, there is not a neighborhood left that a pretty girl in a short skirt shouldn't feel safe walking around by herself at three in the morning. self defense is somebody is trying to kill you and you can stop them by killing them first and you do it. it doesn't have to go as far as killing, you can substitute kill for any kind of violence in there. of course you do what you gotta do. the way you guys are talking about this though you almost seem to feel passionate about the idea of killing somebody before they kill you. this is insane to me, but i can understand it having grown up on the same tv as you.really though i said that because i thought he was going to play political word twist with any answer i gave.

not what i said, although i can see how you might have misunderstood me there. i do not support violence, but there is a need to be pragmatic. if i seem hypocritical, its because i am. there is an ideal of a peaceful world to be wanted and striven for. but if it was a completely binary decision me or somebody else ide choose me. so maybe not hypocritical, but flexible enough to account for reality.

We agree on the definition of self-defense. My examples were kept simple, but yes, given the option to KNOW that I could incapacitate someone... I would do that before killing them. I'm not quite sure what you mean by feeling passionate about it. If you mean a willingness to do it...I was raised as a country boy. I did a lot of shooting, hunting, killing etc. I respect human life, but really a human is just another animal in the grand scheme of things. So if I or my family were threatened, I'd have no qualms about ending someone. Maybe that's kinda scary, but it isn't meant to be. And really, it's just another interesting difference in the way people are raised. Just like the mere sight of a gun sends shivers down some people's spines.

You're absolutely right, you did not say that. I apologize for the assumption on my part.I would love a peaceful world, with no need for guns except to be enjoyed at the shooting range. But people are greedy, thoughtless animals. They're too busy shitting where they eat to think about the future.In closing, I don't see you as hypocritcal. I agree. Given the choice, I'll never kill anyone. But I'd rather be prepared with the correct mindset than get into that situation and freeze up.

I could provide some links illustrating the difference between the "special sundae" and "watersports' but I think I'd get banned.Also, for the record, I don't "dislike" the troops.. I just never, ever would be one, and I think many people who join the armed services are making a large mistake, but it's their lives, so they certainly have the right to make it.
