brvheart 1,759
Point #1. He's not actually dead yet... although he will be soon.Point #2. I'm not a fan of his... so the R.I.P. was just me being Ironical.Point #3. Speaking from a Christian viewpoint the R.I.P was even MORE ironic... since no one actually rests when they die.Let's discuss Jerry Falwell in this thread. I don't know much about him, so I will study up.http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D8...;show_article=

jmkiser 0
Ding dong the wi...what?OMG I started singing the same tune.A friend of mine was under Falwell's "personal tutelage"... you knowthat whole school that turns gay people straight. It was ****ing sick the whole time. Seeing the torment that Falwell put this guy through (and he took a shot at it because of a free degree from a university). Also the hundreds of stories of men "turned straight" only to be caught at gay bars when their wives aren't looking. Not only do the men have to go through this suffereing, but innocent women and children are a sad consequence of the Falwell nightmare. It's sad when someone dies, but he was a menace to society. nutzbuster 7
He was a perfect example of someone who got so lost in his belief that he put the blinders on and took it TOO far.Deep down he was a true God fearing decent man and walked the walk.It is a shame he alienated so many people, but he did and said some really terrible things.God have mercy on him and pray for his family for it is they who must live in his wake. crowTrobot 2
It is a shame he alienated so many people, but he did and said some really terrible things.he didn't do or say anything inconsistent with god's behavior in the old testament.
brvheart 1,759
he didn't do or say anything inconsistent with god's behavior in the old testament. That's a problem then.. because as you well know... we are not under the law anymore.
Loismustdie 0
he didn't do or say anything inconsistent with god's behavior in the old testament. Nor did he do anything consistent with the New. This guy was everything that Christ taught against.

fighter 4
In November 1983, Larry Flynt's pornographic magazine Hustler carried a parody of a Campari ad, featuring a fake interview with Falwell in which he admits that his "first time" was incest with his mother in an outhouse while drunk. Falwell sued for $45 million in compensation alleging invasion of privacy, libel, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.[27]A jury rejected the invasion of privacy and libel claims, holding that the parody could not have reasonably been taken to describe true events, but ruled in favor of Falwell on the emotional distress claim. This was upheld on appeal. Flynt then appealed to the Supreme Court, winning a unanimous decision on February 24, 1988. The ruling held that public figures cannot circumvent First Amendment protections by attempting to recover damages based on emotional distress suffered from parodies. The decision in favor of Flynt strengthened free speech rights in the United States in relation to parodies of public figuresThis is the only reason i know of jerry falwell. I love the fact that I only know of him through the life story of larry flynt.

brvheart 1,759
Man, what a disappointment for him this must be, no heaven and all... He has to exsist(sic) in order to be disappointed.Exactly. You must believe in God, Zeatrix.Because if Falwell was a Christian and right... then he's in heaven and you're in big trouble. If Falwell was a Christian and wrong... then nothing.... and of course:If Falwell wasn't a 'real' Christian, but Christianity is correct... then he's in Hell.If Falwell wasn't a 'real' Christian, but some other religion is correct... then it totally doesn't matter, because all other religions are all inclusive and he will be in 'heaven' anyway. crowTrobot 2
That's a problem then.. because as you well know... we are not under the law anymore.obviously the vast majority of people, including christians, who are saying falwell was bad/evil are NOT saying it because they think he didn't recognize the difference between OT and NT law. in fact they are saying it based on their own personally-derived common sense judgement of what is and isn't evil/immoral. any christian who thinks falwell's statements about 911, tsunamis etc as god's punishment for homosexuality/secularism are evil should toss their bibles in the trash, because that's exactly what god did in the bible (over and over).you can try to make inane justifications based on technicalities of biblical covenants (or whatever) all you want, but the truth is to anyone objective there is simply no reconciling morality based on *either* the teachings of jesus, or on human common sense, with the OT behavoir of god. just as there is no reconciling morality based on the teaching of jesus with the concept of eternal punishment. if the teachings of jesus as described in the bible are correct, god as described in the bible is the most immoral figure in all of recorded history. much worse than stalin or hitler. much worse than satan in fact.
