mhoward29 0
Ok so I have a group of guys that I always play with at my local casino. We decided the rake sucks and want to start our own home game. Plus the closest casino is over an hour away, i am 15 minutes out of town. I have the house to do this, I have a giant great room that would be awesome to set up as a poker room. Where have you guys bought your tables, chips and cards from online? Some of the sites online look less than trusting to me. Let me know, thanks.
iloveplaypokr 0
well, you can get chips and Kem cards from Amazon.com easily enough so I'd just be concerned about where to get the table. If you want custom chips, this site looks cool: http://www.nevadajacks.net/
scram 1
Craigslist is a great resource for card tables.A serious cash game is going to need serious chips, so plan on having to outlay a bit of coin for a decent set. Cards are what they are, but the weekly home game won't use very many, especially if you buy KEMs.One thing... I know your idea is to play at home to beat the rake, but once you get done buying all the supplies plus refreshments, you'll have a lot of your own money invested for their benefit. If you are willing to do this as a mitzvah, OK. If not, plan on taking either a small rake, or donations at the door to offset costs.Oh yeah. Keep your circle small and tight. Don't become the game that local people hear about as being a good place to play on Sundays. Running a UGCR is tricky, but rewarding and fun. Plus, it has the added benefit of being a cool story to tell your grandkids 30 years from now after we finally repeal the stupid prohibitions on poker (kinda like how many of our grandparents and great-grandparents had cool stories of UG speak-easies and rum running)
mmmsandwiches 0
if you are looking for a table, check out pokersuppliesltd.com. you can buy kits with all the materials you need and build it yourself. i know the guy who owns the company. he is a complete d-bag, but he sells good products...if you can put up with him.also, KEM cards are the ****. mhoward29 0
There will be donations at the door. These guys all have money (as do I) so cash isnt a huge issue. There is a group of about 20 of us that play from 4-8 to 30-60 so the games should be good.I have Kem cards already but I will need some new ones.
scram 1
Sweet. You might have to hook a FCP brutha up with access. (I'm usually out Portland way once a year or so- worked at the Hillsboro Gun Club as a kid, know the area well)

(I'm usually out Portland way once a year or so- worked at the Hillsboro Gun Club as a kid, know the area well)Ah so you know where Forest Grove is then? That is where I live. I drive by the gun club everyday. So what are the consequences of taking a rake and getting caught? If I was to take one that is. I always hear it is illegal but I never heard what happens. scram 1
Heck yeah. One of my best friends as a kid used to live right next to the Rose Funeral Home (don't know if that's still there or not)I don't know Oregon laws specifically, but running a UGCR is a felony in a lot of states. Here lately, they seem to be going after it unusually heavy, so it's something to be careful of. Even if you don't take a rake, donations will usually qualify for UGCR status. scram 1
Under Ground Card Room.I guess technically it should be "UCR" since "underground" is a compound word, but I've always seen it abbreviated as UGCR.

scram 1
Well, here's part of Oregon law. Seems that it can be a felony if they want to make it so, but there is room to make it a misdemeanor if they want to. 167.127 Unlawful gambling in the first degree.(1) A person commits the crime of unlawful gambling in the first degree if the person knowingly promotes or profits from unlawful gambling.(2) Unlawful gambling in the first degree is a Class C felony. http://www.gambling-law-us.com/State-Laws/Oregon/Yeh, I know. This is entirely stupid. Some guys want to get together and play some poker and they're subject to the same legal classification as a bunch of mental-defectives gathering to watch kiddie porn. This has got to change... Mayor_Qu1mby 0
As far as I have heard it is only illegal if you take a rake. Donations are ok I think. If you know Portland at all there used to be a cardroom on 92 and Halsey. They aren't there anymore but I never heard about the polce doing anything. As long as you don't take a rake, I think it is totally legal. Are you guys not going down to Spirit Mountian anymore because of the rake?

iloveplaypokr 0
Since you said you and your friends have a lot of money, just skip the rake and chop up the cost of the poker table. It wouldn't come out to a huge amount and they shouldn't mind if you're the only one with the room for this setup.

TurboDog 0
If you have any woodworking skills at all you should build the tables yourself. It's not that hard, the plans are easy to find online.http://www.homepokertourney.com/tables_build.htmPic of my latest:

lordofelt 0
Ya and maybe I should sculp the chips out of clay myself... loserWow pretty harsh. I was also going to suggest building the table you can get all the supplies for a nice table online and build it in about 2-3 hours plus you save a bundle but if you wanna blow the cash by all means go for it.As far as chips go if you're looking to run a serious card game You'll probably want to invest in some quality preferable custom chips for security reasons. I'd reccomend checking out www.chiptalk.net it's a poker chip forum full of tons of people who know just about everythign there is to know about poker chips. You'll find everything you need there including info on which chips to buy, how many of each kind you need for different games etc. Also if you are willing to invest the time you can get a nice set of custom designed poker chips for about the same price as quality generic ones. Customs are nice because they add personality and security to your poker room. I had a guy on chiptalk design my chips and they're awesome.
