coesillian 0
I downloaded this documentary of 2 parts, The God Delusion and The Virus of Faith. This documentary exposes the power religion has on society and shows us how much 'evil' they commit and create. I took everything he says with a grain of salt tho. He is such a devoted atheist and he totally discredits the bible of any truth. He mentions many time his "evidence" disproves the bible but I have been shown more evidence support biblical facts than disprove the stories of the bible.I'm not very religious and I 'm unsure about the existance of God althogh I used to believe. I'm serching for answers now but I don't have alot of time to devote to learning about religion. So I find quick to reject the bible but maybe I'm a little biased. Besides that though this documentary was very revealing to me. The influence religions is having on education is appaling. Scare tactics and distortion of truths in great societies like the UK and US is astounding. It's brainwash to miseducate the youth this way. He puts religion into perspective and made me realize how easy it is to have faith. think of all the Gods that were believed in in the past. we're all atheits to those god, to all gods, expects todays believers go one God further. The evangelical fundamentalists of the US were frightening as well, showing hell fire movies of anti aborting and anti gay marrige, with punishment of torute and eternal suffering to 12 year olds, to scare them into believing in the christian way. The Jews in london teaching their curriculum to kids, this stuff is wrong! Evolution is REAL, how is this an issue.I guess I'd like to believe in thje bible and God but I don't agree witht he doctrine of the church. Cathoilics have commited such attrocities in the past. Musilims today have alot of extremists, the fundamentals of that religion are interpreted in an absurd way IMO, Islam is a majorly confused religion and their numbers are scary. This documentary shook me deep and I still don't know how to assimilate all this info. I'm going to go watch it again.<anybody see this, or read the God Delusion. I don't know if I'd be able to read his book tho, he is quite arrogant. comment?
Flack_attack 0
It's a good and worthwhile read, though you're just going to have to get past the arrogance of Dawkins. You say you'd like to believe in God but just don't agree with his prescribed doctrines? Eh? How does your personal interpretation of his doctrines bear pertinence to his existence (or lack thereof)?? If you accept the existence of God you must abide by the doctrines, whether you "agree with them" or not.

If you accept the existence of God you must abide by the doctrines, whether you "agree with them" or not.Do you have to abide by a set of doctrines if you believe in God?What about if you use the word God in a broader sense, as distinct from the God Of The Christian Bible. I like to look at it in meme terms, where memes are replicators in the landscape of human communication. The God Of The Christian Bible and its companions in the super-meme Christianity, is a virus using our reproductive facilities for their own selfish purposes. In other words, instead of us humans talking to each other about things that help us to survive in our lives, we end up talking about religion in order to help religion survive. How about not limiting the word God to just this one meme? I know that I exist, and because of that, I know that there is something called "reality". If we wanted to go very broad, we could redefine the word God to mean that. If narrower, there are some phenomena, like consciousness, that we currently do not have a compelling description of. We could redefine the word God to mean them. I'd rather like to drop the capital g though, as it supposes that it is a given name, like Bob or something. Can I still be rational and believe in god?***I've followed Dawkins' for a long time, but haven't bothered to read anything after Unweaving the Rainbow. I've found he's just repeating himself now, just coming up with yet another metaphor for the same message. I do remember being struck by the brilliance of The Selfish Gene and The Blind Watchmaker, but found he's got ever more high-handed and arrogant. I feel like I want to say to him: "Yeah, ok, you're *right*, but its not the be-all and end-all of critical thought on the subject."***Apologies for length
jmkiser 0
haha I'M A MONKEY!!!!! OH yEAH!!!there are some other great documentaries out there on the subject you speak of, too. As for evidence FOR stories in the Bible, notice that none of metaphysical events have any evidence for them.

I was not questioning a broad, deistic belief in God, but rather the OP's supposed atheism/agnosticism because of doctrinal disagreements.
