Ok, I am going to buy a couple decks of KEM's I believe. I have plastic cards I use now, but they are too flimsy and were a gift. Not sure of the name of them but I want to upgrade.Which ones should I buy? I see on ebay that there are 2 decks, Arrow, Wide, regular index. It is about $26 with shipping. Is this what I need? I hear KEM is the best.

If you buy them from:http://www.kemplasticcards.com/They are $28 shipped for a set of 2. Not the cheapest, but they have a card replacement program where you can get replacement cards if any get damaged which is nice.I prefer the wide (poker) size, regular index. The 'Arrow' is just the design on the back. I have a bunch of Kem and Copaq decks, and both are great. (I prefer the Kem decks though as my Copaq's have worn out faster, but I think a lot of people on FCP like Copaq better for some reason)Mark

Thanks Beav and Mark. That isn't a bad idea going through that website Mark...the extra couple bucks is basically insurance in case a card gets damaged. Plus I will probably add in the set of cut cards to go with it. Thank you all for your help!

Arrow-backs are good. Some of the KEM sets don't have a lot of contrast between the back colours, and that can be a bit of an issue in lower-light home games, IME.Most poker rooms use narrow, or "bridge" cards, and the wider "poker" size will feel odd in your hand if you're used to playing live in casinos. I find the wide cards less easy to hold, shuffle and deal, but YMMV. Index (number) size is personal preference, but if you have anyone in your game who's half-blind, you might like jumbo index. Without getting into the debate about what's "best" and which brand is the best "value", KEMs are good cards.I'd advise narrow (bridge-size), regular index, arrow-backs.

Is this an issue for anybody else? I was kind of going for a casino feel but didn't know what everyone's preference was.

I've got 2 sets of COPAG plastic cards, one set bridge size, one set poker size. I've played with both KEM and COPAG and i can't tell the difference, plus the COPAGs are a lot cheaper. Just throwing that out there

http://www.hotshotscanada.com/item3943.htmI'll be buying the thin Arrow deck once my Copag decks bleed all the way through. They have started to bleed more rapidly now and I'm sure they'll be ugly in a year - but will always be in good shape. Also, my Copag cards are wide size.. the community cards take up what seems to be miles across the table.

The size difference between poker size and bridge size is 1/4 inch. Unless you play with them side by side it's hard to tell the difference. Pretty much the same with large vs regular index. If you've been looking at regular index the large will seem huge for a few hands and then you'll get used to it. If you play on a big oval table large index is probably better for the people on the ends even if they have decent eyesight.I got COPAGs simply because they were half the price of Kems.

I like Kem's super index for those with bad eyes. If u keep them rotated they will last u a very long time. In the home game i play in they have about 20 sets of Kem's that we have been using for almost three years and with regular rotation they have held very good. They play 3 to 4 days a week so they get alot of use.

I should have specified what I meant. I didn't know if there was much of a difference in feel between the narrow and the poker size cards.

You can definitely feel the difference. Its just kind of what you are used to. Like someone else said, the 'bridge' size are 2.25" wide and what most casinos use, even for poker. But most decks of paper cards you find are the poker sized 2.5" ones, so to me that size felt more normal cause thats what I'd played with at home my whole life. Also on the Copaqs, the reason I don't like them as much is because after a lot of use the ink on the cards is coming off, which has not happened on my Kems.Mark

I just purchased thru www.kemplasticcards.com. Yep basically the same price. Except if a card gets damaged for me it only cost $1 I think to replace it, while if I ordered thru a 3rd party it would cost me $3 to get replaced. Had to order some cut cards too so it was easier to go thru the website.I'm not too worried about saving a dollar or 2 anyway. Its like driving across town because gas is 5 cents cheaper over there...what is it going to save you, like 75 cents?
