Be where the action will be at. Stay at the Rio!glgl

If you want to be close to the wsop, but are on a budget, try the Gold Coast. It's right next door to the RIO, has clean basic rooms (nice wall mounted lcd tvs), and is usually reasonably priced. There was good poker there during last year's wsop -- lot's of off duty dealers and journalists. However, it's not on the strip. If that's important to you, maybe try the Imperial Palace. Don't worry too much about your room -- you won't stay there much anyway.I wouldn't suggest staying downtown for your first trip, but definitely go there at some point during your trip.

Monte Carlo -- stayed there once, don't remember much about it. I guess it was ok.Luxor -- nice, but not the best location Alladin -- never stayed there, but LOTS of fish in their pokerroom during last year's wsop. Also seemed to have a lot of young people (as in your age... yes, I'm an old fart). Also got propositioned by a prostitute there last year.MGM Grand -- never stayed there, south side of strip, good poker room.Harrah's -- no idea.Definitely consider the location as a top priority. When I go, I always rent a car and drive to whatever poker room I want to play at. Therefore, I always look for a good deal on the room, since I don't do anything there but sleep. If you're with a group and you plan to walk around and party, I suggest one of the ones on the strip. Also, there's a monorail that goes along the strip that you can use to get around.

MGM and it is not even close best poker room out of all the ones you named 54 taboo and one of the top 3 pools in vegas get a cabana at the lazy river on a saturday afternoon The only problem is that it seems like we get so hammered at the cabana we always pass out and miss most of saturday night It might be a little more expensive than some of the other places but I have stayed almost everywhere and for a 21st b-day it would prob be the best place in vegas mandalay hardrock or the palms would be my next choices.

Yes, I didn't mean to imply that MGM was a great pokerroom (but it is above average). My suggestions for that would be Venetian, Wynn, or Caesars.

**** the MGM floor staff. They have no idea how to keep players happy, and even worse they don't know what collusion or softplaying is. Cardcore and I had a really bad experience there a few hours ago and I'll personally never return. The rooms are great though, I'd suggest it.

Yadda yadda yadda collusion. Three people sitting directly next to each other were very friendly and on a first name basis before sitting down to the table. One of the players was a hothead and was doing a lot of smack talking and playing super aggressive and loose. He then makes an insane fold when his friend goes all-in for 300 into his 200 big blind, folding and saying "I like you so I'm gonna fold to keep you around." Seth and I instantly call for the floor and explain collusion and how that isn't fair no matter what his two cards were. He even showed K2 and claimed he never played cards that bad(YEA RIGHT!). His friends obviously stuck up for him and the tourney continued. He later busted and Seth and one of the obvious softplayers got heads-up. I busted 3rd because I play too good for my own cause and can't run as good. Ohhh well.

If those are your choices, I'd go for MGM. When I was there, it definitely had a younger crowd that the others (and Studio 54 has tons of smoking hot ladies!). It is also serviced by the monorail which can get you up the strip to Harrah's (and in the area of Venetian, Mirage, etc) quicker than walking & cheaper than a cab.

If you are concerned about cost, Imperial Palace is cheap and in the middle of the strip. Luxor or Excalibur are cheap and on the south end. Sahara is cheap and on the north end. None of them are anything special so expect to spend most of your time out and about. For a little more money Monte Carlo is decent. MGM is great (good poker, clubs, restuarants, etc) but might be a little pricey.

Of those 4, HARRAH's would be your best choice due to:Location: It's near (or a walkable distance) to all the main poker rooms (Harrahs, Venetian, Bellagio, Caesars, etc.)Also, it has a Monorail station so you can get to other places easily AND ALSO MOST IMPORTANTLY.... they have a SHUTTLE TO RIO!!

It may be at the end of the strip and the cardroom isn't anything to write home about...but if you're going for pure relaxation, you should give Mandalay Bay some consideration. It's by far my favorite resort, and that's exactly what it feels like...a resort. And you can't beat the constant sun-tan/coconut oil flavored air that they pump in through the ventilation system...I think I once got high off of it :club: Oh, and the sportsbook kicks a$$.
