$50k H.o.r.s.e. Tourney And Espn Coverage Of Wsop

So this year's $50K HORSE tournament will be played HORSE for the whole tournament, instead of switching to NL Hold'em for the final table. Also, ESPN is planning on airing 6 hours of coverage spanning the whole tournament instead of just two hours of final table footage, which is what aired last year. Also, ESPN is planning on broadcasting 16 hours of coverage of the Main Event compared to 12 hours last year. That's a 33 percent expansion, and considering the field may be reduced by half or more compared to last year, it amounts to a very substantial expansion in coverage.Good plans? Bad plans? I have my opinions, but I'm interested in hearing the FCP community's ...

The more ya put it out there, the more people will start to learn about ALL forms of poker. So its definitely a good thing.Oh and increasing the coverage of the ME is nice too, as any poker on tv is good.

SAY WHAT!? are you sure about that? I was under the impression that the field would have been even larger this year

Glad they will be showing more of the HORSE tourny. Not happy that they will be showing more of the ME 12hrs of DONKTASTIC NLHE is PLENTY. They should show more of the earlier events like Omaha 8 and PLO, Stud and Stud hi/lo, and Razz and the smaller buy in HORSE events, Also arent the bringing back a 1/2 holdem 1/2 stud event?

No one knows how big the field will be until the event starts. But considering that half of last years entrant were internet qualifiers and there won't be any real internet satellites this there most people seem to expect it to be smaller. The info out of Harrah's though seems to indicate that they think it'll be bigger.I'd be happy to watch hours and hours of ME coverage if they would show interesting hands and not just big all-ins. For me interesting hands would be things like a guy squeezing from the BB with trash and getting called. Or a guy raising trash and hitting and how he plays it out. Or someone limping big pockets from EP and getting several callers. AK all-in called by AA just isn't interesting even if AK sucks out. There's just no strategy to it.

Name your price. I'll bet you anything reasonable that the ME field will be smaller this year than last. PM me.

Well I would'nt go that far. Its just limited to pre-flop strategy, obviously to most people here its boring to just see the big all-in confrontations and there is obviously more intricate and high level play when flops are taken and played out. But for a lot of the players who play in the main event they do not have the skill to be able to take flops and think a hand out, so really the big all-in move is the optimal strategy for the weaker players. Their best chances are to get it in pre-flop and hope to have the best hand/coin flip.

I just meant that the play in those hands is pretty much dictated by the cards dealt. So many of the hands that TV people think are interesting are pretty standard.

I'd say alot of this has to do with 90% of the entrants being total nits when it comes to the game of poker. It's hard to see interesting, well-played out hands between Mike Matusow/DN/Hellmuth vs. Joe Schmo from Eerie, PA.

As a poker fan, I think the HORSE coverage is great. But as a TV producer, I would only show 2hrs of the HORSE FT, not 6. The public need to be slowly eased into HORSE. Showing 6 eps of it this year is a pretty big gamble. Imo, show 2hrs this yr, if positive responses, show 6 of next year. Also, I think a PLO televised ft is a must, just as much action as NLH and relatively easy to understand rules. I can see why they might not want to show stud (no 'dramatic' all ins due to it being FL) or O8 (hard to understand rules). I would say adding in a few other 'chamionship' events of the other games is a good idea though.

ahhhhhh, I love this game. I'd go with a reverse one-handed weak hand layup, nothing but net.
