Poker Golf. Life And Everything.

Recommended Posts

Good Morning all, For this post to bear any weight I should qualify myself. I am pretty(very) old, and am well travelled in Poker, Golf, Europe, The USA and life in general. Firstly Taffer is a well known ab/user of Poker forums and in no way is typical of UK 'players'. I respectfully suggest you ban him from your forum. There has been much said/written in the Poker world about a 'Golfing' incident. I have a humble view on this. Poker is a game where deciet to a certain level is considered a part of the game. Rules vary from room to room. It is common for a player to act the fool/novice at a live game in order to create an edge. Golf is very different. There are rigid rules. Should a player toe a ball, claim a false drop, or declare a false handicap he is harshly dealt with. There is no room for arguement and the shame felt once caught should be deep. Poker and Golf are a totally different ends of the sporting spectrum, the ethics do not mix well. On a personal note I have stopped playing USA sites. Let me elaborate. I lost my only son in a 'friendly fire' incident in Gulf1. I find it particulary offensive to be berated and demeaned by a breed of probably young USA 'players'. They seem to delight in displaying a 'kick *** ' attitude towards the world in general. Much of the abuse is based on bigotry borne out from ignorance. After all only 25% of US citizens hold a passport which has been used, so many are likely never to have left the USA or even the state where they reside. I consider myself fortunate to live in a country with much history which leads to a feeling of self worth. I am comfortable in a liberal society which is democratic, where differences are celebrated rather than discriminated against. Abuse which stems from ignorance is pretty worthless, it could even be considered understandable. All I wish to ask is this....can we all just chill a little, accept others may have a different view. It is after all a game. It is very easy to be a keyboard warrior, but just stop to consider before you sound off at another. You do not know them, you have no idea of the others sensibilities, we all have bad days, and by the way my teeth are not my own.

I do appreciate your sentiment, but aren't you contradicting yourself here? I'm very sorry for the loss of your son, that is absolutely horrible and I cannot know the pain you have felt, but I think that pain is causing you misjudge Americans. I think you may be looking for somebody to blaim other than the real cause. The American people are the most diverse people on earth. There are people from every race, ethnicity, and country in the world here, and we are all Americans. America is made up of people who said to themselves "I want something better for myself, my family and my posterity". It is made up of people who needed more than their home country could offer, and they all had the gumption to go out and do something about it. They had the intelligence and the initiative to go out and do what they needed to do to make their lives better. When you think about us and where we come from like that, maybe you can understand why America takes the lead in world affairs. Yes, we are a country of agressive people who go out and do what needs to be done. Its what our parents and grandparents and great grandparents did when they came here for a better life. It is ingrained into our sensibilities to go out and fix what is wrong and do what is necessary for our own security. We're not going to just sit back and hope for the best. This makes some people in the rest of the world a bit uneasy...but I'd rather be here than where they are, and deep down so would they.America is a great country, I'd venture to say the greatest country on earth. I'd welcome arguments if anybody wants to say another country has more to offer. America has some of the greatest cities in the world, and it has some of the most beautiful natural wonders in the world. We offer many political freedoms that are rare in the rest of the world. Anybody who wants to come here and work had hard has a chance to be successful and have all of their dreams come true. Yes, we are proud of these things. Please excuse 15 year olds online who don't yet know how to tactfully express their pride for their country.

I can't hit the submit button without pointing out that what you said here is compelely wrong and shows a little bit of the ignorance you are trying to charge Americans with. Have you been to America? We have cars and we use them. lol

I have been to America and you do indeed have cars. However the 25% comment is a fact. Let me pass some humour.I reside in York. A couple of years ago Ascot races were held here. An american couple booked into an Hotel in Edinburgh.Shortly before departure the female half of the couple rang the said hotel. This was to enquire as to what type of footwearshe should pack, in order to walk to the races.Edinburgh is 200 miles from York.An American student, at Cambridge, appeared on the TV quiz show 'The weakest link'.Q.......which P is the capital city of France.A.......Italy.On a serious note, I have visited the USA several times. When in America you are indeed a hospitable, interesting and interested bunch, except for Chicago, where perhaps they were rather dour. The interactions I have had with US citizens whilst here and in Europe are totally different. You do not travel well.....rather like a cheap wine.Your comments about seizing on opportunities to cure the ills' of the world interest me. Here lies an image problem. America is percieved by someoutside the USA as rather meddlesome. On meeting US citizens they are often amazed at how unpopular your governments foriegn policies are. The right that the USA assumes to become involved in many world affairs causes much resentment, of which many 'ordinary' americans are blissfully unaware. This leads to a perception that America is over arrogant. It has been said that only the USA was surpised by 9/11.All I was asking in my original post was for more tolerance. I fear for the future when reading Poker forums, for if they are a true reflection(which I prefer todeny) of the youth of today we are truly doomed. As one ages a certain mellowness envelopes the soul.

It's irony little. You may find this forum gets hit by a few disgruntled Brits following Danny's post. More than likely from the HendonMob website.Would it not be a little ironic for an american to voice some displeasure at Danny's blog entry.
