an old discussion/argument on completing

Recommended Posts

I had a discussion with KramitDaToad about completing in small-blind and if raised should you ever fold.I was basically saying there were times where it was possibly you would and he disagreed. We debated it a bit, and then because it happened to be in Smash's thread on his experiments Smash told us it had all been decided a million times before by pros and stop trying to reinvent the wheel and I was clearly wrong.Other than yelling at Smash for being thought police I dropped the matter (it was in his thread after all). But when I was reading a slightly outdated cardplayer issue, I came across an article that basically gave my exact example senario, which is 15/30 where they use a 2/3 instead of 1/2 blind structure, and in his example he says it's one of those few times when it is correct to complete in small-blind and fold. I just felt like sharing since I felt slightly vindicated. Not because this proves me right, there are few black and white rights and wrongs in poker I feel, but at least it shows I wasn't crazy to think about it.The article is from a couple issues ago and written by Jim Brier:http://tinyurl.com/72ags

Yeah cut-off and button play change in a game like 3/6 where the SB (I believe) is 1 and the BB is 3. Obviously, you will complete less SB's here. That is why the cut-off and button should play more aggressively when it's folded around to them, due to the likelihood that the SB won't complete.Smash can probably vouch for this. Or anyone else who plays 3/6.I believe Harman discusses this in her Limit chapter of SS2.

yeah in a gmae where the ratio is 2/3 your getting 5-1 odds on your money to complete the blind if it's just you and bb and even better if there are more people in the pot.in a game where you are only in for 1/2 of a bet your odds come down considerably as your starting hand requirements creep up.
