Interesting Moral Dilemma

Recommended Posts

So earlier today I was HU in the 100r on Stars, when this hand occurred to end it:PokerStars Game #9356071566: Tournament #47143707, $100+$9 Hold'em No Limit - Level XVIII (6000/12000) - 2007/04/10 - 18:43:14 (ET)Table '47143707 19' 9-max Seat #1 is the buttonSeat 1: mkind0516 (323577 in chips) Seat 8: Tulkaz (698923 in chips) mkind0516: posts the ante 600Tulkaz: posts the ante 600mkind0516: posts small blind 6000Tulkaz: posts big blind 12000*** HOLE CARDS ***mkind0516: raises 18000 to 30000Tulkaz: raises 85000 to 115000mkind0516: raises 207977 to 322977 and is all-inTulkaz: calls 207977*** FLOP *** [3c 3h 7d]Tulkaz said, "nh"*** TURN *** [3c 3h 7d] [5s]*** RIVER *** [3c 3h 7d 5s] [2c]*** SHOW DOWN ***Tulkaz: shows [5h 5c] (a full house, Fives full of Threes)mkind0516: shows [Th Ts] (two pair, Tens and Threes)Tulkaz collected 647154 from pot*** SUMMARY ***Total pot 647154 | Rake 0 Board [3c 3h 7d 5s 2c]Seat 1: mkind0516 (button) (small blind) showed [Th Ts] and lost with two pair, Tens and ThreesSeat 8: Tulkaz (big blind) showed [5h 5c] and won (647154) with a full house, Fives full of ThreesObv brutal. I then look in the chat box and see this:Tulkaz [observer]: ok 4 you if I send you 1000 for the beat ?mkind0516 [observer]: lol suremkind0516 [observer]: ty tulk, very good gesturemkind0516 [observer]: ggI did not ask for this: the gentleman offered me this outta the goodness of his heart. So he did send me the $1000 (for the record, the difference between 1st & 2nd was about $7k real money). I thought it was a very nice gesture on his part. I've been running horrendously lately and this was my 1st major final table in quite some time, so I appreciated his gift. I didn't really think much of it, otherwise. However, as is usual with me, everything I do is under a microscope. Therefore, there was a thread on that OTHER site moments later about this. Within minutes, the thread was flooded with people ripping me apart for keeping the money. Now, these people never liked me to begin with, and I'm not sure if they are genuine or if they are just busting my balls. I would like some unbiased opinions though:If you were in my situation, would you keep the money or would you send it back to him?

lollll if the man wants to send you 1k because of something that is normal in poker, why would you not take it? as long as you didnt ask for it. I dono why he would do that, but quite nice of him to, and i would say thanks and find some hookers and blow.

Attempt at hiding a brag post
He offered, you'd be silly to send it back. But I'll tell you what, if you feel undeserving of the 1k and it will bother your conscience to keep it, I'll whip up a stars account for me and you can send it there.

Lol at all the people who are going to say to send it to them. I say that it's ok to keep the money, as he offered it. If you don't feel comfortable keeping it, I say pay it forward, but not to anyone who asks for it. Wait until you find a situation to truly help someone.

Just joking with the send it to me. This is definitely not a moral dilemma. The guy was making a sportsman gesture that is all. Those that think this was bad are jealous they weren't in a situation like that.

i was looking on stars to see what happened from last nite/today and saw you finished 2nd.... nice job. as for the 1K i'd keep it. it was a friendly sportsmanlike gesture, something you dont see everyday and maybe you can one day pay him back a favor in a simular way. as for the people on the other unnamed forum. **** them man. if they cant get over what happened then seriously.... it aint worth your time dood. but once again nice job man

This story reminds me of something that happened to me last year. After grinding a 4-8 limit table in a casino all night, I was ready to leave with $100 profit. There was a group of rowdy drunks at my table, with friends railing them. They were obviously all part of an extended family. They kind of reminded me of a mafia type family.Me leaving meant that the table would break up, as there was only one other "non-family" member at the table. As I racked my chips, one of the drunks challenged me to a $100 heads up no limit game. It's something I normally would have jumped on in a heartbeat, as this guy was a total donk, but I wasn't sure what road I'd be travelling down if I accepted. Finally, he peer pressured me into accepting. Since the table was breaking anyway, the manager allowed the dealer to change the table to no limit and we began playing heads up.This guy obviously had not played much, and I knew I'd trap him, as he was ultra aggressive. Sure enough, I trapped him twice with dominating hands only to get sucked out on. I told him good game, and was getting ready to leave. I really didn't want to have anything else to do with this group, as I wasn't sure how they would have reacted if I had won. That's when the guy came over to me and said, "Hey listen, all I was doing was having a good time, and I just wanted to be able to say 'All-In' like they do on tv. You can have your money back". I hesitated, but then said, "Well, If you want to do that, I'll accept since I'm pretty poor right now". That's when he said, "Why don't you take $200, your buy in and mine. I was just having fun". I accepted his offer, and after talking to him for a while, I realized that his group was just a bunch of good people having a good time.I had trouble sleeping that night (well, morning actually), as I contemplated whether or not I should have taken the money. I felt that I had been dishonorable in accepting the entire $200. I decided that I would try to make ammends when the time came. Sure enough, as I was playing the next day, the same group of people walked by the poker room. I immediately got up and went to talk to the guy, and offered his money back. He didn't accept, but I proposed that we take the money to a blackjack table, bet hard, and split any profits we made. He agreed and we went to the blackjack table. We ended up losing the money, but in the end, I felt like I had at least done the honorable thing. I also learned a lesson, because my observation of "mafia type" people had actually been way off base, as they turned out to be a nice family having a fun reunion (including a nice grandmother who rooted us on at the blackjack table).

Yes, the people on "that other forum" are all jealous brokeass donks -- because as is common knowledge, PocketFives is home to the worst players around. No member over there has ever even won $1k let alone had it given to them.p.s. -- pitting forum against forum is #1 sign that you are awesome. Go post this on PXF too mkind and you'll triple your awesomeness. :club:
