Any Worthwhile Instructional Dvd Recommendations?

Recommended Posts

My company just upgraded our laptops. I finally have one with a DVD player.I am going to Vegas (5 hours from NY) in May and plan on playing some. I was thinking I could use the time on the plane to watch a good instructional DVD or two but can't decide.Any recommendations?

Most of the ones that I know of are quite 'commercial' and lack any true instructional value for even a slightly above average player.I think you're better off subscibing to a site like Cardrunners.com, downloading some of the videos and save them.

If you are going to spend money I really suggest cardrunners. I just subscribed and they are great.

Even though he's not very popular around here, I think Phil Gordon's "Final Table Poker" DVD is quite good. It's basically a mock WPT final table with Gordon, Chris Ferguson and a few others. The production quality is great (even better than an actual WPT episode), and it is definitely not for the begginer, as they go in depth into some of the more sophisticated topics (Gap Concept, Implied Odds etc.). It is very Sklansky-like in its approach IMO and it's pretty entertaining to watch.Hellmuth's Bluffing & Tells dvd is pretty good also. It's basically just him talking to the camera giving amusing anecdotes and tips on bluffing and reading players, alot of which are actually very insightful. His other dvd's suck @ss though.

I guess my number one recommendation would be to read Harrington on Hold'em vol 1 and Sklanski's no limit hold'em theory and practice. If reading is out of the question Phil Gordon's DVD for tournaments or Daniel's DVD for cash games. However I really wouldn't recommend any of the DVD's I've seen unless you can get them for free and are somehow unable to read.
