No doubt. I got interrupted mid-post there. Anybody got anymore info on this? I haven't been able to find any articles yet. The Atlanta paper wants you to register, guess I'll have to.Wonder if it was Micon and the boys. Anyway, that kinda money, you think they could find someplace to play with adequate parking.

Don't the police honestly have anything better to do. People are getting murdered, assaulted, raped, robbed, molested, and our country is a prime location for terrorist attacks and our police forces are concerned with breaking up poker games.Wow no wonder every other country thinks we are retards...

I love how they never say what so ever what they are charged with or did wrong, lol.6 month investigation. Talk about an easy job. What tipped them off, the multiple calls from neighbors every Monday night or the valet parkers that asked for the cops to pay $5 to park there? rolfPretty dumb to have that many cars at the same place all packed together on the street. Not a very good spot for a game, lol. :):club::):D:D:D:D

That **** sucks, Im actually going through something similar to this, I play in underground games because I am underage (19) and the place I go to the most and where I win a lot of money from is going to have to move locations because they've already had an undercover cop following people home after a round of poker.I know of 3 other places, but they're either a longer drive, and/or not as friendly of an atmosphere as the place I frequent.Every time I hear of an underground poker game busted, it sucks... I feel really sorry for those guys in Atlanta.

Its a sad situation that poker players everywhere have to deal with. I thought that America was great because of our freedoms. But apparently we aren't responsible enough to decide to gamble or not. We need our great and fearless government to make that tough tough decision for us

No. They don't. Regulatory agencies (or local police acting in that capacity) are the ugliest form of law enforcement out there. They spend more time creating criminals or "catching" people breaking stupid infractions that no one cares about than they do actually getting bad guys. But to answer your original question- they absolutely don't have anything better to do.We've spent the past 30 years overfunding the **** out of federal and local law enforcement agencies to prove that we're "tough on crime". We populate our police departments with dreadfully under-qualified community college graduates whose only prerequisites for employment as a cop are 5 months in the CC "Police Academy", the ability to walk a mile in under 4 hours, being able to write their own name without getting any letters backwards and having a mustache. Our local police departments are filled with mindless, 90 IQ dullards who are incapable of cogent thought or actually discriminating about what laws they really "should" be enforcing from a moral perspective. Our Federal agencies are populated by agents that are brighter, but with that sickness of the mind that causes someone to want to be a "cop". We empower these marginally retarded douchebags with endless streams of laws upon laws upon statutes multiplied by more laws that are so comprehensive in nature, an entirely law-abiding man can live his entire life without any intent to do anything wrong, yet still find himself the target of "prosecution".I had better stop ranting now.

I can't. It's a personal thing to be. BTDT (for non-poker stuff)As an aside, I can say with complete confidence that Atlanta has some of the hottest home poker action of any major city. $1K, $5K and $10K buys are a regular thing- cash games with the fishiest fish stacked low-five figures deep... The closest competitor is NYC and Austin, but Atlanta is right there with them.

http://www.myfoxatlanta.com/myfox/pages/Ho...mp;pageId=1.1.1They didn't think people were gonna complain about cars being all over the place?
I can't watch the video right now at work so I don't know if this was mentioned on it, but one of the people busted was former WCW and TNA wrestler Disco Inferno...

Playing with Arieh on bodog. His exact quote in the chat box was, "Wow, I've played in that game. It's an ex-Braves pitcher's game. What a freakin Joke."

FCP has been down this road before, but...Taxes.I realize that federal and local gov't throw out "corruption of morals" as an argument, but it really boils down to the fact that there is no mechanism in place for enforcing the payment of taxes on income from unregulated poker games.Yes, our tax system is self-reporting, but home and online poker games provide unique opportunities to avoid declaring income -- home poker games pay out in cash, and online poker allows unreported cashouts that can be sent to depositories like Neteller, where income is hidden from authorities.I'd like to make it a libertarian argument, too, but it runs deeper than that.

Been arrested before? What is the alternative, No police at all? You think maybe these people running this game were a bunch of idiots and got busted due to their own stupidity? This wasn't some little home game that got raided, these idiots were actually advertising their illegal business on the internet. If you lived on that street and you were constantly getting your driveway blocked and having a hard time getting to and from your residence, and then called the police to sort it out, you'd expect something to be done right? The news did mention numerous complaints. How many times do you think the police may have been called out there before this raid? If you are running an illegal high stakes game, the last thing you would want to do is draw attention to yourself. Or, have an "in your face" attitude with the police and pi$$ off the entire neighborhood by blocking access. You say cops are stupid. Some are. But, there are some really dumb@$$ people walking the face of this earth that are total scoffers. They have that "what are they gonna do to me?" attitude. It's illegal to run big commercial games here in Texas too, and if you get involved in one, you keep a low profile and don't stir $hit up. We've all done some stuff that we could have been charged for, but most of the time we aren't stupid enough to get caught or we just got luckyy we didn't get caught. These morons in Atlanta got themselves busted. The only thing worse than a dumb cop is a dumber outlaw.

All the issues with the cops aside, I still say why have this level of a game at a house in the 'burbs. You absolutely know that the cranky lady next door is gonna complain about cars being all up and down the street. I bet you could rent a hotel conference room, say it's a private party, and no one would bother you. I dunno.

I live in Atlanta and know this game. It has been around along time. I just watched the report on this and and pro wrestler and a "well known poker pro" were all arrested. I asumed it was Josh but, as a previous poster said it wasnt him. There are a few poker pros that live here so it could be anyone. What is great though is the peoples response on Ajc.com is that its a waste of time for the popo to be raiding this game. Good to see the people know more than our gov..big supirse. Funny thing also about this game is alot of city leaders play in this and alot of famous people play in this game. Supirsed it got shut down. Love it when the gov tells me how to spend my money.

Been arrested before?
Nope. Have been subjected to the inquisitions of "bored cops" before, though.
What is the alternative, No police at all?
Actually, no. The "alternative" takes a bit more thought than that. Our choice isn't between an absurd number of laws and retarded cops to enforce them, or no cops at all.The "alternative" is undoing the streams and streams of these idiotic laws that have absolutely no purpose other than to restrict personal choice. The "alternative" involves not empowering the worst instincts of those who seek power (cops) by allowing them to pester and arrest different groups of people who aren't hurting anyone or any thing.Furthermore, the "alternative" involves seriously revamping our law enforcement structure so officers are throughly qualified and of the right mind for the job (which is absolutely NOT the case now). I believe this should involve an IQ test and deep psychological vetting so our police departments aren't peopled by mentally ill power seekers, people with chips on their shoulders and bitter lesbians. If you want to make the argument that these guys running the poker game were idiots, I agree. If you want to make the argument that these guys were improperly utilizing a resedential area for commercial purposes and should be shut down, I actually agree. If you want to make the argument that these guys were flagrantly disregarding the law regarding "gambling", I agree with that too. However, if you want to make the argument that the law which criminalizes peoples personal decision to play poker and empowers cops to arrest them for it is correct from a moral perspective, well, that's where I disagree. This isn't a "parking" issue. That's a cop (or apologist) talking who is trying to rationalize their blind, non-thinking enforcement of really bad laws. Plenty of poker games are raided around the country, every day, where "parking" isn't the issue.

These people were total F##ktards. It's not just the little ol lady next door you have to worry about when you try something like this in some residential area. You have the Neighborhood Crime Watch, The Homeowners Assoc., Police, Fire Dept. and the residents all looking at stuff like this. It was just a matter of time. Surprised it took them 6 months.

Well, the complaint was filed 6 months ago. The popo have been just sitting back, collecting evidence.

By MIKE MORRIS, PAUL KAPLANThe Atlanta Journal-ConstitutionPublished on: 04/10/07Roswell police arrested 27 people in an overnight raid on a high-stakes poker game in an upscale neighborhood off Holcomb Bridge Road. The raid on a home on Nesbit Ridge Drive near Centennial High School capped a six-month investigation into the operation, which police said charged players $10,000 to enter the weekly, Monday night games of Texas Hold'em and other games.Roswell police Sgt. B.C. Brackett said that when officers entered the house overnight, they found players gambling around three tables in the basement of the house. Those arrested were "from all walks of life," Brackett said. At least two men arrested were from out of town, one from Savannah and the other from Macon, he said. Two women hired to serve drinks were among those arrested.Officers also impounded more than 20 cars parked along the street outside the house. The investigation began after neighbors complained about traffic in the otherwise quiet neighborhood.Brackett said that while the game was by invitation only, potential players could apply to enter the game through a Web site. The house is a modern stucco and wood two-story on a quiet cul-de-sac in the Nesbit Ridge subdivision of 39 homes. The owners are Dan and Angela Tyre, according to neighbors and public records. He owns a car wash and she works for a wine distributor, said neighbor Mary Hager, who used to baby-sit for the couple's two young children. One is under a year old and the other is under 3, she said.Hager and her husband, Tracy, who are retirees, said the gatherings at the Tyre residence have been a Monday night tradition for a couple of years. They started as a Monday Night Football gathering, the Hagers said, and apparently escalated from there. The Hagers said they were invited to come watch the games but declined. They said Dan Tyre always made sure there was no noise, and the Hagers never knew the gathering had morphed into high-stakes poker games."They're wonderful people," Mary Hager said. "Andrea is a wonderful mother. Danny is friendly, always says hello.."Tracy Hager said "a swarm" of police, including a SWAT team, arrived around 10:30 p.m. and forced their way into the basement of the house, where the card-players were gathered. There were about 20 cars parked in the cul-de-sac, and many of them were towed away, he said."I stood out here and watched it until about 1:30 in the morning," Tracy Hager said. "It was still going on when I went to bed."The Hagers said it felt like a bit of an over-reaction by police to what seems to them to be a victimless crime.Three cars were still in the Tyre's driveway this morning — a Mercedes, an Infinity and a Pontiac — along with a Cadillac SUV and another Mercedes parked inside their closed garage. A copy of the AJC was still sitting on the lawn at 10 a.m.A middle-aged woman at the residence answered the doorbell, but she closed the door in silence when the visitor identified himself as a reporter. While most of those arrested will face misdemeanor charges, two men believed to be running the game will be charged with felony commercial gambling counts. The names of those arrested were not released."I've been with the city for going on 27 years, and I've not seen an operation like this in my tenure," Brackett said.
