Official Mariners 2007 Thread

Recommended Posts

Almost certainly sadly. At least we'll get a few more months to watch him.
I doubt the Mariners will be smart enough to trade Ichiro. It will all depend on whether they are poised to make a run at the Angels and the division title. In more positive news, Felix was off the hook today. Ibanez and Sexson were clutch. Over/Under on how long before the bottom falls out?I say April 6, when they start to get crushed by quality teams like Cleveland and Boston.Hope for the best expect the worst!

Probably my second favorite team to keep track of (Jays #1)... I'll be in this thread from time to time.Hernandez looked sick on opening day.

You desperately need some optimism. We have one of the best defensive infields in baseball. Are rotation is DECENT. I won't go out on any limbs but Batista, Ramirez and Weaver should give us 25+ wins.King Felix is ready to go. He looks so much better this year then last it's insane. Putz is a top notch closer. Ichiro. Nuff said. I don't think we are gunna run away with the division or anything but we WILL be competetive this year.PS. I hate Vidro. Despise. BB has so much more upside.

No. Optimism is for the weak. If you are a true Seattle sports fan -- be it Mariners, Seahawks or God forbid the Sonics -- you would know the true meaning of waiting for the bottom to drop out. You hope and pray that it won't, but as soon as you believe, there you are again on the floor looking up at the trap door wondering what you are doing below it. Just the baseball examples: Aug. 2006.; Sept. 2003; October 2002, 2001, 2000. Alex Rodriguez, Ken Griffey Jr., Randy Johnson, Mark LangstonWe haven't even begun to touch the enigma that was Bobby Ayala.I covered the Mariners from 1994 to 1998 -- not as a regular beat writer, but I was someone who was in the clubhouse for most home series as a freelance reporter. I was privy to plenty of ignorant ownership moves and the decisions behind those moves. So, I will always have hope, but experience has told me to always keep an eye out for the traps of optimism.Trust me if you join the pessimistic side, when good things happen they are always better!

That stupid noob Felix gave up a hit. What a loser. He totally blew it for my fantasy team.(I really do love him)

The time I spent in Seattle made me become sympathetic towards the mariners cause. Felix is unbelievably good. That one hitter was really his coming out party. He completely spoiled the Dice-K show ( who pitched really well, I thought). let the CY young hype begin.

WTF is Hargrove thinking? Also this place needs more M's fan's. We're on fire.
I loved Hargrove when he was managing Cleveland and was sad to see thim leave here. However, I wasn't too happy with him when he made the home opener be cancelled when the Tribe was winning and only needed one more strike to win the game.

I'm torn.. They are waaaay overpaying for him, but he's worth so much in marketing and sales that they will most likely recoup all of it in a hurry. Now if they could just get some @#$@# pitching. One more starter and another solid righty out of the pen would make this an awful fun pennant race.

Overpaying? By the end of the contract maybe but for the next 2-3 years he's a perennial Gold Glove guy and he pretty much guarantees you 200+ hits and 100+ Runs. We have one of the best pens in the AL. We could use a good righty but were doing okay with what we have.O'Flaherty has been our savior on many occasions. Can't argue with a starting pitcher though. Every time Feierabend starts I cringe. Hopefully Ramirez will get in there and do okay because I don't hate our top 4 at the moment.

Yeah, he's gonna be 38-39 at the end of that contract. Pretty insane, when you think about it, but we have a rare commodity in this league: a legit leadoff hitter. Best hold on to him.

Every time I see Ramirez's face, I'm reminded not only is he sucking up $2.6 million of our payroll, we could have Soriano setting up Putz. Makes me weeps tears of frustration.

What pisses me off more then Ramirez is Vidro.Snelling and Fruto for a guy who is hopefully gunna end up on the bench in the next couple weeks.****ing Bavassi.Edit* Of course Vidro is 3/3 at the moment tonight when I type this.

Don't blame Vidro. It's not his fault he's been picked, at age 32, to be the day-to-day DH. Dude's hit 20 homers in a year *once*. Yeah, he's hit over .300 more often than not, but the fact that he's hitting .290 with little power shouldn't be a shock to anyone. And Snelling, god bless 'em, has always been a talented hitter, but can't stay healthy.Believe me, if Ibanez, Beltre, and Sexson were all up to snuff, Vidro's contributions would be par for the course and unridiculed.

Definitely not overpaying on a marketing standpoint. That guy is worth twice as much as they pay him. Also, have no fear, this guy is not going to break down. The regimen this guy lives by could probably help him play longer than Julio Franco.

The pennant race is already going to be fun. Right now, Seattle has all the pieces to challenge for the West without a move. LA is an old team with their youth in places where experience counts. It is really showing right now with the way the Angels faultered going into the All Star break. The Angels will be a .500 team for the rest of the season.Seattle adding a decent starter and a reliever would make this thing a lock. The trouble is, Seattle's track record in deadline trades is lesson in futility. Plus the trade market is weak which means Seattle would have to have the balls to make a short term fix and sacrifice a little of their future by trading away prospects. What's most likely to happen is they will trade for a has been or a never will be that won't be much better than what they already got. Especially if the team is rolling the way it has been. Management has never understood the positives that come along with getting a player who will excite the lockerroom. While it might cost a lot, consider what would happen if the M's went out and got Roy Oswalt or Dontrelle Willis for the pennant stretch. Most teams that have won the World Series in the last 7 years have had a 1-2 punch that either of these with King Felix would provide. Both are from the National League and would mow down the competition for half a year as many ALers would not have seen much of them. But the Mariners simply won't do it.Since the M's won't make a pitching move, what they really should do is to get Scott Hatteberg from Cincinatti and get rid of Sexson. Hatte is a local boy (grew up in Yakima) and is a proven leader. His years behind the plate really give him a lot of pull in the lockerroom. (Plus there's always a scenario where they could get Griffey in the trade too. Although, I would wait until he is a free agent.)Barring injuries, you can book the Mariners into the post season. The AL Central is going to beat up on each other. So as long as the M's try to win the West and forget about the wild card, they will get one or the other.

What pisses me off is Johjima's defense as of late. How do you let Sheffield steal twice? Mother Fer is old as dirt and rarely steals more than 12 bases a year. Plus he still has a long way to go in calling a game. That's another reason why we need Hatteberg, he could teach the kid a thing or two. Man I wish old Danny Wilson was still in his youth.
