MapleLeafpoker 1,462
Vancouver isn't surprising to me. They have a similar team to the one that dominated. I think it's just clear now that Torts sucked a big one. Montreal probably a playoff team. Leafs probably a 6-10 type team, so 50% or better in the playoffs... Ottawa is trash. Edmonton is trash. Calgary, yeah, really surprising... didn't they start hot last year too, though? Winnipeg has been a decent team in a tough division getting awful goaltending. Not surprised good goaltending has made them slightly above decent. Calgary surprised me, but honestly, Im not "shocked" with Winnipeg. I think Winnipeg is deceptively deep. They are rolling 3 very good lines, the top 4 is one of the best imo, if not now, then definetly in the coming year or two. I always thought Pavelec was a good goalie, I cant figure out why his sv% and other stats have been so bad. I was a real believer of his during his Atlanta time. If Winnipeg played in the East, they would be a playoff team, no doubt. The difference between the 2 conferences is staggering.
dEv~ 19
Sidney Crosby is 24th in league scoring 5 on 5.. He got a sick assist on the GWG tonight. It was 5 on 5 and against the leafs I believe.
Zach6668 513
Pretty sure his assist on Franson's goal was 5 on 5 too.
doox 15
Has anyone ever seen an ending quite like the Pens/Rangers game tonight? Goes to shoot-out, looks like Boyle puts the winner in, and the teams all leave the ice after the Rangers celebrate. It later turns out that he hit the puck into the post, then double tapped it back into the net so the goal is no good. The teams have to come back out on the ice, Sutter puts one in in the 4th round, and Fleury stops Nash to take the win away.
davidfrost 0
I've seen some of these in the past. I guess this is the perfect definition of saying "the ball is round".
MapleLeafpoker 1,462
casual mention today that Harding is on waivers. Am i the only one who thinks he shouldn't make it all the way through, unless there is sort of an agreement to not claim him for other personal reasons. like, why wouldnt Edmonton put him in over their two? Zach6668 513
Well... He injured himself outside of hockey and was suspended for that... He has MS... I dunno. He's not really proven or anything.
MapleLeafpoker 1,462
ya, could be. I was reading about how he should easily clear waivers, and I just thought I would take a chance on him if I was some other teams. Im guessing the MS scares them off, though I had forgotten about the fight/whatever with the teammate that got him hurt+suspended. Never heard what really happened there. mrdannyg 274
and the worst hockey parents award goes to http://bluejacketsxt...rce=twitterfeed The problem is the parents of course, but I'm sure serge, myself and others cringed at the lenders. How can you sue someone a month after signing a long-term loan? Obviously you didn't do your diligence to make sure they actually had the capacity to pay it. I wonder how lenders like that are even allowed to operate with such an obvious bad-faith intent.
serge 904
Thats insane.. Its a really bad idea to borrow against future earnings..With those interest rates etc.. The only time I would recommend something like that is if you won that CASH FOR LIFE lottery.

serge 904
Its a terrible story... Apparently the dad is known for being a cartoon character..he is crazy..When Jack Johnson went to college, he went with him..
MapleLeafpoker 1,462
why are they borrowing at 12%/24%? I'm assuming the 24 is because they were already screwed, but why start off at 12%?
serge 904
why are they borrowing at 12%/24%? I'm assuming the 24 is because they were already screwed, but why start off at 12%? I dont know about the lending rules in the States, but I am assuming these are private lenders.. There is no security really..No property..No colateral.. Not sure how its even done... Sure the contract is guaranteed, but there really isnt a way for the lender to "own" anything like we would in conventional real estate, or collateral secured lending.. Its still an unsecured loan..I dont think banks, especially the large ones in Canada, would do it at good rates.

Heh, we're all wondering about the lending parameters. First loan is for $1.5 million, at 12%, with a million due in a month...fishy is an understatement.

serge 904
I am not judging here, and I am sure Jack Johnson might be oblivious.. But come on..Its fishy....How out of it do you have to be, to not know that $18 million has been squandered away without your knowledge? He has to take some responsibility..After all he fired one of the most reputable agents in the NHL...
MapleLeafpoker 1,462
Ever since he was drafted practically, there was this aura around Jack Johnson in Carolina that there was something wrong with him. Most of it seemed to be about him having an attitude, just thinks he's better than he is, usual enigma stuff. Frankly, I loved the guy from his days of playing WJC with the US and taking on the Canadians, and his hard hitting/fast skating style. But something soured with him+Carolina really fast. When they dealt him away, it seemed like a "we're just trying to get rid of a headache" kind of thing. There were reports about him wanting more money or whatever, but really, if you read between the lines, you knew JR wanted him out, fast+bad. Getting any type of assets at all in return was a bonus. I'm sort of with Serge. Is it really possible he was so blind to all this? Maybe. I suppose if its your parents, you might either trust blindly, or even if you think something is going wrong, just turn a blind eye to it and hope it fixes itself.

I think the parents make Bonnie Lindros look normal.. Imagine your kid goes to college and you rent an apartment(buy a house ) a block away from the school?? Isnt that just weird. ALso the dad is pretty famous and he dances at the games.
